Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 87: Arrival of the Ghost Masks
May 15, 2025.
In a museum located in Shinjuku Ward, the national war relic known as Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io was contained in a long glass case, its blade sheathed by a black, weathered leather.
Protecting Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io directly was the 3rd Demon Hunter Squad, led by Koizume Kikyou.
Above the museum, on the wide rooftop, the 13th Demon Hunter Squad guarded for ambushes from above, led by Namita Hajin.
Outside the museum, on the perimeter of the building, the 6th Demon Hunter Squad directly oversaw the front entrance, led by Minato Watanaki.
Finally, towards the exit of the museum, the 1st Demon Hunter Squad ensured that no ’rats’ escaped, led by Arima Shiniyami.
But surprisingly, standing on this empty hallway, only Arima’s silent figure could be seen.
Under the glow of the moon, the mission to protect Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io began!
---
Museum, Front Entrance.
The 7th Demon Hunter Squad was scattered over the perimeter, carefully patrolling their surroundings.
Minato stood directly in front of the entrance, his arms crossed.
Holding a transceiver in his right hand, he raised it to his lips and spoke solemnly.
"Kanae-san. Did you find anything suspicious?" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
From the other side of the transceiver, a woman’s voice answered.
[No signs yet. The police are also looking carefully.]
Kanae, their Scout, was assigned to monitor the area beyond the museum’s perimeter for any suspicious activity. She worked with the ward’s local police force, ensuring nothing slipped past her.
"Okay." Minato nodded, trusting her completely. He added, "Stay in touch."
[Roger].
Kanae answered calmly.
"No news here, too, or from the 13th Demon Hunter Squad from the rooftop. Keep being alert. I refuse to believe that they had given up."
Minato shook his head and put the transreceiver inside his chest pocket, his expression solemn.
It had been two hours since they were waiting at the museum, yet there were still no traces of the Ghost Masks or any rogue awakener, for that matter.
’Why am I worrying about this? It’s better if no one appears...’
Even though he thought of that, his heart couldn’t calm down for some reason.
Brushing aside such thoughts, Minato walked to one of his subordinates, Ikeda, the Frontliner.
"Ike..."
Just as he was about to speak, the transceiver in his pocket vibrated.
The vibration was especially strong.
Buzz!!! Buzz!!!
Matsuda’s expression instantly changed, and he immediately shouted.
"Get ready!"
He pressed the transceiver through his pocket’s fabric, and Kanae’s voice immediately came, filled with panic and anxiety.
[Captain...!]
Minato narrowed his eyes, but Kanae’s next words made his face shift to disbelief.
[The police reported monsters appearing all over the ward! From the surveillance cameras, we discovered that Gashadokuro is travelling on a motorcycle, dropping living monsters throughout the area. They need help containing them!]
"What?! Monsters?!"
Minato’s eyes widened, his lips dry. His face immediately lost all color in them.
How could there be monsters in the main city?!
No, how could Gashadokuro have possessed any monsters...?!
They were strictly monopolized by the DHA!
’Did someone from the inside sell them the monsters?!’
Minato buried this concern in his heart for the moment. He quickly asked as he walked towards his motorcycle.
"Status report!"
He asked, keeping his calm.
[Captain, the monsters... all of them are Tier III Beast-classes. I already requested support from the DHA, but it would take a while for them to arrive...]
Kanae’s voice was hesitant.
Minato bit his lips.
"Tier III class? All of them?"
[Yes!]
Kanae immediately answered.
After a brief pause, Minato’s eyes turned resolute.
"Stay in touch. Update me on their position in real time...."
He paused, hopping on top of his motorcycle.
"Send me the location of all the monsters and Gashadokuro!"
Minato shouted through the transceiver. Before he left, he shouted some instructions to his squad members.
"Ikeda, Sanji, Monita, cooperate with Kanae’s instructions! I’m going to confront a ghost mask!"
"Roger, Captain!"
They shouted, expressions equally solemn and nervous.
---
On the rooftop, Namita leaned against the wall, smoking.
Woosh!
Seiji stood on the edges of the roof, watching with alertness.
Akihito and Ayase were also patrolling around the edges, observing nearby buildings.
Besides Namita, everyone wore a deep frown on their expressions, their focus unrelenting.
The rooftop was considered an important point in this mission. This was where most of the Ghost Masks’ members were expected to break through.
Originally, it was the 7th Demon Hunter Squad’s job to guard this place, but Namita had offered to take up the position instead. Everyone had originally disagreed, but with Shiho’s approval, everyone had no choice.
At that moment, a ring vibrated from Namita’s phone.
Namita answered it, his expression fluctuating slightly.
"...!"
Chaotic noise echoed from the transmitter, giving him an idea of what would happen next.
Namita was about to inform everyone that he was going downstairs...
But at that moment, three distinct figures quickly leapt from one roof to another.
By the time they landed on the museum’s rooftop, Namita had already raised his gun, recognizing their identities.
Two were small, frail figures, but besides them, they were accompanied by a burly man.
They were Mogwai and Jiansghi, along with Onryo, in charge of breaking through the museum through the rooftop.
Without any words exchanged, the fight began!
---
Within the museum, a thin, frail figure silently appeared.
Their figure seemed to have phased through the walls, like they were a Ghost.
Koizume and the rest of the 3rd Demon Hunter Squad snapped their gazes to the frail figure, their eyes widening in shock.
But the frail figure, Yurei of the Ghost Masks, simply swept her gaze at them.
Step... step...
Footsteps suddenly resounded from the left, causing everyone to turn their gaze once more.
On their left, a tall figure appeared.
They were a modestly built man, draped in a dark black coat. Wearing a reaper’s mask, he looked like the grim reaper of hell.
As the man walked, he dragged the body of a fallen member of the 7th Demon Hunter Squad, leaving behind a trail of blood in his wake.
"...!"
Koizume’s eyes narrowed, her gaze focused intently on the new person.
She recognized him, of course.
After two hours of waiting, Shinigami has arrived.
