Chapter 569: Chapter 569: Sanctuaries Breached (Part 2)

Point-of-View: Zian Akel

———————————————————————————

"Man...it’s pretty wild how fast things escalated. There was a point when I was one of the strongest Hunters in Sanctuary Theta. I mean, sure, big fish in a small pond and all, but still. But now, with there being three X-Aces in Theta alone, I’ve kinda faded into the background," I sighed wistfully, as I cracked my neck.

"You seem awfully calm, considering that your comrades are being massacred, human," Responded the Archdemon I was up against.

Only a couple of minutes have passed since the Monsters breached the Sanctuary, and things have gone to hell real fast. It’s complete and utter chaos out here, things are not going well.

The Monsters scattered the group of Hunters I was assigned to, before the Monsters themselves scattered and spread out, wreaking havoc with reckless abandon.

And this Archdemon targeted me, probably because I’m the strongest one here. Not that that’s saying much, I’m still a hell of a lot weaker than this thing is.

Hm.

Yeah, I’m probably going to die here, aren’t I?

"I wouldn’t say calm, exactly. Well, whatever, let’s just get on with it, shall we? I’m the Guildmaster of the Demonsbane Guild, Zian Akel, an Assassin," I introduced myself, as I drew out my weapons, a pair of daggers...sort of.

The blades weren’t directly connected to the handles, there were short chains attached to the handles, with curved blades hooked to the ends of the chains.

"Hah, Demonsbane, you say? What a joke! Your Aura, it is quite unremarkable. At best, I would put it on the level of an average Greater Demon. With such paltry power, do you truly believe you can defeat me?" Scoffed the Archdemon.

"Well, you seem pretty unremarkable for an Archdemon yourself, so who knows, maybe I’ll-...," I began with a smirk, before trailing off as the Monster took the bait and shot towards me with a snarl.

I shuffled across to the left as fast as I could, wincing in pain as he inflicted a deep gash across my right side as he shot past me, blood streaming down as I gritted my teeth and spun around, before whipping my left blade across, the chain snapping through the air as the blade whizzed towards the Archdemon’s eyes.

He tilted his head back in amusement, before weaving back as I unfurled a rapid barrage of swings and slashes at him, evading my attacks with ease.

"Try this on for size, [Double Water Slash]!" I exclaimed, water swirling intensely around my blades as I whipped them across at his chest.

He took a swift step back as my blades closed in on him, just enough to avoid them, before I leapt towards him, getting low as I landed in front of him and whipped my right blade across at his eyes.

He scoffed as he deflected the blade with his claws, before lunging forward and driving his other arm towards my throat.

I tilted my head across and sprang back in a rush, his claws grazing the left side of my neck and drawing out trickles of blood, before I quickly got low as he snapped his jaws open and fired out a blast of Negative Energy at me.

The blast whizzed past the top of my head, narrowly missing, before I shifted my left arm over my chest as he drove his knee up towards me.

I let out a stifled hiss of pain as his knee slammed against my forearm, snapping the bones like twigs and launching me several meters back through the air, before I gasped sharply as my back slammed onto the side of a nearby building.

I collapsed onto my knees and coughed out blood with an agonized wheeze, my entire back and my left arm throbbing excruciatingly in pain.

A thud echoed out as the Archdemon landed in front of me, reaching down and grabbing my hair, lifting me up before meeting my gaze with a cocky smirk on his face.

"D-Damn it...," I uttered, my left blade falling out of my grasp and hitting the ground with a clatter.

"So, is that it? I must say, I’m disappointed. While I did expect this to be easy, I expected a little bit more of a fight. Despite your unremarkable power, your confidence and assuredness made me hopeful that you could pose the smallest bit of a challenge and entertainment. But evidently, that confidence was unfounded and baseless, you are disappointingly weak," Sneered the Archdemon, extending out his claws.

"Yeah...thought I’d manage to land at least a couple of hits, maybe last a bit longer. This is pretty embarrassing. But it’s fine, I-...huh?" I trailed off, widening my eyes as I glanced past the Archdemon with an alarmed look on my face.

As the Archdemon reacted and glanced back, following my line of sight, I made my move, tightening my grip on my right blade and running my Mana through it, the chain stiffening and straightening out.

"What are you-...?" Frowned the Archdemon, starting to turn his gaze back towards me.

"[Stealth], [Super Accel WATER STRIKE]!!!" I roared as I turned invisible and thrust my right arm forward with all the speed I could generate, driving the blade towards the middle of his torso as water swirled around the blade with intense pressure.

His eyes widened in alarm, starting to react...but he was too slow.

He gasped in pain as my blade pierced through his skin and flesh, before a violent shudder of agony erupted across his body as my blade collided against his Core, my thrust coming to a brief halt...before plunging into the Core, a sharp cracking sound ringing out.

I pulled my blade back out with a violent twist, collapsing onto my knees as he stumbled back and fell over with a thud, coughing out blood as he shakily stared down at his solar plexus with a look of horror on his face.

"Heh, I...I can’t believe you fell for the oldest trick in the book," I chuckled as I turned myself visible again.

"D-Damn...you...bastard...," He uttered weakly, before collapsing and slumping against the ground...
