Chapter 86: Ghost Masks

Hyotokye, Kitsune Ward.

Among the twenty-six wards of Hyotokye City, Kitsune Ward was by far the safest. It was located two wards below Shinjuku Ward, and occupied only a small area of the city.

At the entrance of an abandoned building, a tall, pale-skinned figure quielty appeared.

The figure had a thin, frail body, fully covered by an oversized white kimono. Their hands were small and soft, like a woman.

However, it was hard to be certain, as they wore a mouthless white mask, a pair of crimson pupils glowing through it. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

But if any demon hunter were present, they would undoubtedly recognize this figure’s identity.

Yurei, a member of the SS-class group Ghost Masks.

Known as the strategist of the Ghost Masks, she was responsible for the success of many of their operations.

This time, she was once again in charge of ensuring the success of their new operation.

She stepped inside the abandoned building, a dusty odor entering her nose.

Debris was scattered across the ground and the ceiling showed faint cracks, clearly showing the unfinished state of the building.

Yurei swept her gaze for a brief moment.

Then, she went upstairs slowly.

Soon, she arrived in the highest floor, where multiple figures wearing different unique masks waited for her.

"Yurei."

Leaning against a pillar, a burly man wearing a terrifying red oni mask noticed her arrival.

He was Onryō, a member of the Ghosts Masks known for his brutish strength.

Besides him, a pair of short figures slept soundly on the floor.

One was a young boy, seemingly no less than 16, wearing a rabid black dog mask.

The other was a young girl, seemingly no less than 16, wearing a colorful white cat mask.

The two of them were Mogwai and Jiangshi respectively, the ghost children of the Ghosts Masks.

Finally, on the far left, a young man played with a handheld console, wearing no mask at all.

But beside him, a starving skeleton mask could be seen.

He was Gashadokuro, a member of the Ghost Masks known.

Yurei swept her gaze to all of them, stopping at Onryo.

"Onryo, where’s Mr. Shinigami?" She asked quietly.

Onryo didn’t answer right away.

He looked at Yurei as he asked cautiously.

"You secured it?"

Yurei nodded. "That’s right."

"You met them, then?" Onryo asked calmly.

"Murakashi?" Yurei shook her head, speaking slowly. "When I arrived there, there was only a letter."

Onryo fell silent, as if considering her words.

After a brief pause, he gestured towards the back.

"Shinigami is there."

"Alright."

Yurei nodded before walking once more.

She knew why Onryo was asking that.

A few days ago, the disappearance of Master Kimoto was leaked to the underworld.

At first everyone doubted it, but a certain group confirmed it by stirring up chaos to lure Master Kimoto out. However, to everyone’s surprise, Master Kimoto didn’t appear.

When everyone in the underworld learned of this, the entire underworld became extremely active.

Even if Master Kimoto wasn’t dead, he was definitely busy or out of the country.

Around the same time, a person who goes by the name One-Eye appeared in Nihono’s dark web.

One-Eye seemingly came from outside the nation. They posted a request to rogue awakeners to steal a particular national relic.

The rewards were tremendous, enough for them to live several lifetimes.

The Ghosts Masks immediately accepted this request, warning anyone who dared to take it on other than them.

With their reputation, nobody had accepted it, but it was hard to say for sure.

Rogue awakeners weren’t exactly known for being truthful or fair.

But during this time, another shocking user called Murakashi appeared in the dark web, selling living monsters, ranging from Tier II Beast-class to Tier I Demon-class.

Everyone was shocked, thinking he was from the demon hunter association.

After all, besides Demon Hunters, no one was allowed to entered any of the areas infested with monsters.

Monsters were rare, and the so-called Spirit Orbs were almost never sold to the market.

Despite their suspicioun, the underworld was never one to question other users’ identities.

What was important was credibility.

Murakashi’s credibility was proved through being vouched by multiple famous people in the dark web, which included bigshots in the underworld.

So Yurei reached out to Murakashi and purchased several living monsters.

Step... step...

After walking deeper, Yurei arrived in front of a small room.

She knocked twice.

Knock! Knock!

"Come in."

A deep voice came from the other side of the door.

Yurei pushed the door slightly, revealing a tall, skinny middle-aged man wearing a reaper’s mask inside the room.

He was Shinigami, the unofficial leader of the Ghost Masks.

He was a suspected Limit Invidual.

Shinigami put the claw on his desk, hiding it in his drawer. He raised his head and looked at Yurei while sitting.

"How did it go, Yurei?" He asked calmly.

"I was able to find out about a few things,"

Yurei stepped inside, closing the door from her back. She sat on the sofa before continuing.

"The Demon Hunter Association deployed multiple squads to protect Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io. The other squads aren’t a problem but..."

Shinigami raised his brows, hearing the uncertainty in Yurei’s tone.

Yurei continued quietly.

"One of the squads is the 1st Demon Hunter Squad, led by the enigmatic Arima Shiniyami."

Shinigami was silent, his expression covered by the mask.

"Arima Shiniyami..."

He paused. He knew that the Demon Hunter Squads were ranked, and the top 5 captains were suspected to be Limit Individuals at the very least.

"How strong is he?" He asked curiously.

"I couldn’t get much information about that," Yurei said, shaking her head. "Ever since he joined the DHA through the Chairman’s selection, his squad only took cases from high risk areas."

"High risk..."

Shinigami was surprised.

He wasn’t a stranger to the term ’high-risk area’. It was places infested with monsters, thoroughly corrupted. To be able to take missions there suggested he was strong, but to be able to succeed in every single on...

He was silent for a moment before nodding quietly

"I see. No matter, we don’t need to fight them. We only need to secure the relic then vanish. After that, we can disappear for a while."

Yurei also nodded.

Shinigami raised his eyes, tapping the desk.

"Is there anything else?"

Yurei was about to say no, but then she remembered something.

Among the demon hunter squads protecting the relic, one was recently established one.

It was said that its captain was a foreign person.

She thought for a moment, but considering how little they were known, she judged they probably weren’t important.

"... No."

Shinigami gazed at her briefly, then nodded.

"Alright, tell the others to get ready. The operation begins in two days. Don’t arouse suspicioun for the mean time."
