Chapter 336: Chapter 336: I’m a Busy Young Master

Is it because they were once married, because she is the mother of his two children, or because she stayed by his side when he narrowly escaped death, so he feels grateful? Why did he suddenly propose now?

She didn’t know why she was thinking about these things, but in any case, she wanted to know.

Ethan Sterling patted his bear costume, "Ms. Sullivan, do you really want to be so cruel and have me dressed like this to discuss such profound issues with you?"

Ruby Sullivan’s bright eyes flashed as she teased him, "Didn’t someone just swear that if I didn’t agree to the proposal, he’d be a bear for life?"

Ethan Sterling slapped his bear paw on his thigh, "Which shameless guy said that, babe? Tell me, I’ll educate him for you."

Ruby Sullivan wrinkled her nose, not wanting to banter with him. "Hurry up and take off the costume, or you might get a heat rash."

Ethan Sterling unzipped and tossed the bear costume aside, now only wearing a tank top, boxer shorts, and dark blue socks, which made Mr. Sterling quite... enticing.

Mr. Sterling immediately felt refreshed, as if he had come back to life.

He wasn’t planning to go upstairs to change clothes; he felt alright as he was now. After all, she saw him like this every day, and there was nothing to be embarrassed about. But Ruby Sullivan’s gaze was peculiar, making him a bit uneasy.

"Did you just realize how handsome I am, regretting not agreeing earlier?" he taunted.

Ruby Sullivan smiled helplessly, "I was thinking you look very much like those men caught in bed in tabloid news."

"Ms. Sullivan, you’ve gone too far." Ethan Sterling lowered his eyelids, pretending to be angry as he warned.

Ruby Sullivan waved her hand, "Alright, I’m sorry. So, would you like to hear what I have to say first?"

Ethan Sterling nodded.

"I feel life is pretty good right now. I don’t want to use remarriage with you to prove my value, and besides, it hasn’t been long since we decided to start over. According to the typical relationship timeline, we should still be in the honeymoon phase, which is when couples are prone to impulsiveness. I don’t want to wait until a year or two later when you suddenly realize I’m not the woman you want. By then, my quirks might turn into annoyances in your eyes rather than things you find cute now. I’m a bit afraid of that day, so... I think we should wait until both of us are completely rational and calm before reconsidering remarriage."

Even if she didn’t say it, Ethan Sterling knew he wasn’t good enough to earn her trust, but he also knew this was something that words couldn’t solve; it would take time and small acts over time to prove himself.

So, after a long silence, he simply raised his face and gave a bitter smile, "I respect you, but I want to tell you that I’m very calm and rational right now. I’m already thirty-three, having fought in the business world for over a decade, long past the impulsive years. I admit I used a childish way to propose to you, but that’s just because I thought you’d like it."

"I know."

"I want you to marry me, not to use the law to protect my rights or that document to give you safety. It’s just that after walking on the brink of death last time, I felt if I were to just leave like that, I wouldn’t be at ease. You don’t have to marry me, but I’ll have to leave a will first."

Ethan Sterling sighed.

Originally, he planned to leave a will after marriage. Although The Sterling Group’s shares were his to distribute as he wished, a marital relationship would prevent complications should anything happen to him and prevent opportunists from taking advantage.

Ruby Sullivan was tense hearing him say this, "They say survival after great danger brings fortune. Just live well; why talk about a will?"

"You’re unwilling to marry me anyway, so you don’t have a say in this. Honey and Seth are still young. If something happens to me, The Sterling Family will rely on you." Ethan Sterling patted her shoulder and slowly stood up, "I’ll go change clothes, wait for me a bit."

Ruby Sullivan, feeling tense from his tone, couldn’t help but reach out and pull him back, "Ethan Sterling, what did the doctor say during your check-up this week?"

Earlier, he clearly said everything was normal, but now it seemed different.

Ethan Sterling’s gaze dimmed, and even his voice got much lower, "If I said my days are numbered, would you be willing to marry me now?"

"I would." This time Ruby Sullivan didn’t hesitate at all.

Ethan Sterling raised his hand to stroke her head, "Marrying me to inherit the estate?"

"You’re silly. If there’s no time to think, then of course you’d follow your heart. And if your days are numbered, you probably wouldn’t get tired of me." Ruby Sullivan frowned, "What’s wrong with you?"

He had undergone major surgery before, and his life was spared.

Though things had been fine for years, one could never guarantee there wouldn’t be complications from this last accident.

The more Ruby Sullivan thought about it, the more anxious she felt, detesting his silence at such critical moments.

Ethan Sterling smiled, "Of course, there’s nothing wrong with me, but hearing you say that, I’m really happy. Thank you." He leaned down to kiss her forehead, then turned and quickly went upstairs to change clothes.

Ruby Sullivan blinked, still feeling uneasy. She promptly called Zane Lawson to confirm Ethan Sterling’s diagnosis was indeed fine, finally breathing a sigh of relief.

On the way to the company, she recalled the beautiful ring and couldn’t help asking, "What are you planning to do with the ring?"

"It was rejected; what else can I do?"

"Just keep it for the next proposal."

Ethan Sterling was annoyed, "Ms. Sullivan, I can still afford a new ring." It would be unlucky to use a ring that failed to propose for the next attempt.

Ruby Sullivan felt a little disappointed hearing him say that, "I really like this ring. Since you’re not using it next time, why not give it to me?" She stretched out her hand, imagining how beautiful that fiery ring would look on her finger.

Ethan Sterling frowned, hesitated for a moment, then smiled and said, "Alright then." He took out the ring and put it on her finger.

Ruby Sullivan smiled so brightly, "Wow, it’s so beautiful. This diamond is really stunning."

Ethan Sterling held her hand mischievously and said, "Ms. Sullivan, you even wear the proposal ring. Saying you don’t want to marry me doesn’t seem convincing now, does it?"

Ruby Sullivan’s face stiffened, "Hey, you’re being a bit childish."

He sighed, still feeling a bit wronged, "Never mind if you’re unwilling. I don’t want to marry either. Weddings are so troublesome, choosing venues and hotels; this young master is very busy, no time to get married."

Ruby Sullivan gently leaned into his embrace, "Mr. Sterling, I love you."

Ethan Sterling held her hand and kissed it, smiling, "I know."
