Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 335: The Ruse of Self-Sacrifice
When Ruby Sullivan was seriously contemplating Mr. Sterling’s reasons for proposing, she suddenly heard heavy footsteps. As she looked up, she saw a big brown bear with a heart pocket sewn on its chest slowly inch down the stairs.
The bear head must be obstructing the view, "Big Bear" used one paw to support its head and the other paw to hold onto the stair railing, slowly making its way down. It seemed using the bear paw to grip the railing posed some challenge.
Ruby immediately got down from the hammock, wanting to rush to the stairs to support him. As soon as she got down, she heard Mr. Big Bear say, "Wait for me a moment."
Ruby watched him nervously reveal his bear paw to her, fearing she might hurry upstairs. She was touched by his good intentions and obediently stayed where she was, "I’ll wait for you, take your time, no rush."
"Okay," Big Bear replied and quickly used a bear paw to hold his head again.
The image of Ethan Sterling’s stern face popped into Ruby’s mind, then she looked at the Big Bear before her and felt it was all a dream.
Because other than dreaming, she couldn’t figure out why Ethan Sterling would dress like that.
Ethan Sterling had originally abandoned the idea of proposing with a costume.
He thought that proposing in this way might seem superficial, striking Ruby Sullivan’s girlish heart, making her impulsively agree to marry him. He didn’t want that, which is why he hadn’t worn this thing to go downstairs before. But now, seeing the direct approach wasn’t working well, he could only bring out this trump card. Though it felt like he was scheming against Ms. Sullivan, he couldn’t worry about such psychological nuances anymore in order to successfully propose.
However, Ethan Sterling had never imagined that going downstairs in this cumbersome outfit would be so difficult. Had he known, he would have left the outfit on the first floor.
It took him at least twenty minutes to get downstairs. By the time he reached Ruby, he was out of breath. He didn’t know if it was noticeable outside, but he felt like he was more exhausted than running a ten-kilometer race.
In just a short while, he was sweating profusely, blinking hard to keep the sweat from dripping into his eyes.
After standing in front of her for a while, Ethan finally felt a bit more strength return to him. He kneeled on one knee, wanting to take the ring out of the heart pocket, then realized the bear paw was too big and couldn’t fit into the pocket, let alone retrieve anything from it.
Ethan peered at Ruby Sullivan through the small "eyes," only to feel the sweat pouring out even more jubilantly.
He had planned to use this to cater to her girlish heart and show sincerity, but now he couldn’t even complete the ring retrieval step, clearly showing a lack of sincerity...
Thinking about how Ruby was silent just now, he suddenly felt a sense of melancholy, "What should I do..." He chuckled foolishly, resigning himself to a silly grin.
Ruby thought for a moment, then hurried over to help, "Need to get something?" She asked as she reached into his heart pocket, taking out a small velvet box.
No need to guess what’s inside.
"Could... you give it to me?" Ethan laid out a bear paw towards her before she opened it.
"Oh, okay." Ruby, taken aback, handed the box to him.
Despite being bear paws, he managed to open the ring box, and after opening it, Ethan sighed in relief, presenting the ring to her, "Miss Ruby Sullivan, will you marry me? No matter what the future holds, I am willing to share the youthful years with you, and cherish your girlish heart, just like at this moment."
He was really too hot, speaking and panting at the same time, feeling like he was being steamed. It’s clearly autumn already, how is it still this hot?
Ruby looked down at the ring, somewhat dazzled.
This ring was just too beautiful.
Designed in the shape of flames, holding a pink diamond, extraordinarily dazzling, as if themed on Nirvana.
"The ring is so beautiful," Ruby exclaimed.
"So... you’re accepting my proposal?" Ethan listened to her words, joy filled his heart, and he immediately seized the opportunity to follow up.
Ruby pursed her lips but didn’t respond.
A moment later, she smiled and moved forward to hug the bear head, "Can we take it off directly?" Hearing him say "Yes," she proceeded to help him remove the headgear.
Listening to his labored breathing told her how uncomfortable it was to wear the thing.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Ruby slightly lifted the bear head, it was pressed down by a bear paw.
"You have to accept my proposal before I take it off!" Ethan said this with his eyes tightly shut.
Saying such shameless words, he truly couldn’t bear to look at her. The ploy was initially a joke with himself as Plan C, but he never thought he’d actually use it. He’s now completely unconcerned with anything else.
By now, Ethan was almost certain his proposal was ninety-nine percent doomed to fail, but he just couldn’t accept this failure. Rational as he was, his mind swirled with irrational thoughts. If it could make Ruby accept, he wouldn’t mind putting on a melodramatic tear-jerking act.
He knew Ruby didn’t care for that little reconciliation booklet now, but it was too important to him at this time, he didn’t want to wait another day.
Ruby was stunned by his shameless words, thinking she was hearing things. If the voice wasn’t identical, she’d suspect the person inside the costume wasn’t Ethan Sterling.
"Mr. Sterling, what did you say just now? Can you say it again?"
She took a half-step back, hands on hips, looking at Mr. Big Bear.
Ethan felt he couldn’t kneel any longer, so he simply sat on the ground, stretching his long legs, really resembling a giant baby, "If you don’t marry me, I’ll be a big bear all my life."
To have lost his fiancée, he truly felt like a bear.
Listening to his whiny tone, Ruby couldn’t hold back, bursting into laughter, "Mr. Sterling, are you serious?"
Ethan tilted the bear head to look at her, with her laughing heartily, his facade couldn’t hold any longer.
He ruefully took off the headgear and placed it aside, looking at Ruby helplessly, speaking in a pitiful tone, "I was actually being serious."
Seeing his flushed face, Ruby felt heartache.
In this short while, even his gelled hair had been ruined by sweat.
She knelt in front of him and gently hugged him, "Thank you, I’m deeply moved."
Ethan bitterly laughed, "Even if I’ve never proposed before, I know that a normal woman wouldn’t say thank you in response to a proposal. Does this mean you’re preparing to give me a good guy card next?"
Ruby burst into laughter, "Where did you learn all this nonsense?"
"The great internet," Ethan also laughed, though his laugh was a bit bitter.
He had put significant effort into learning how to touch a girlish heart, these plans were his own ideas, though borrowed from others, he was sincere in his intention, yet... it still seemed to not achieve the expected result.
Ruby sat cross-legged on the ground, looking at him seriously, "Mr. Sterling, why are you proposing to me?"
