Chapter 334: Chapter 334: The Reasons for Proposing

Ruby Sullivan stood outside the car, somewhat bewildered. It looked like a villa complex, and it seemed somewhat familiar.

"This is..." She furrowed her brow and thought for a moment, "Riverbend Pavilion?"

For the stocks in Miles Mona’s hand, she had been here a few times before. Was she going to Miles Mona’s house again this early in the morning?

Ethan Sterling held her hand and walked a few steps forward, "You once said you liked the houses here, so I bought one and wrote it in your name. I originally intended it as a surprise for you." To his disappointment, they got divorced before he could even finish renovating the house.

Later, he had Rhonda Sullivan lose her baby here. To be honest, it wasn’t a very good memory. He just wanted to remind himself clearly that due to his wrong decision, he almost lost Ruby Sullivan, as well as Honey and Seth.

Ruby didn’t quite understand. What did he mean by originally intended to surprise her? 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"You don’t want to give it to me now?" She widened her eyes with a pained expression. Although she was somewhat a boss now, with Nirvana’s recent gains being quite good, they had sold out of all their inventory. Soon, there would be a period where expenses would exceed income, and she still wasn’t exactly rich!

Ethan Sterling was speechless at her expression, knowing she must be weaving a vivid drama within her mind.

"I’ll give it, I’ll give it. I bought it to give to you." He fondly pinched her nose, "Who else would I give it to if not you?"

"Oh-ho." Ruby raised an eyebrow, "Who in Ariston doesn’t know that Mr. Sterling is famously flirtatious? Maybe it’s a gift for some lover!"

Ethan stopped in his tracks and raised an eyebrow, "The way you say it, that makes some sense..."

"Hey!" Ruby feigned anger, putting on an act of intolerance to his teasing.

"Alright, alright, let’s go inside and have a look." Ethan led her towards the villa.

The front of the house was designed in an old-fashioned American country style, with two floors, white brick walls, a red roof, and some intricate ironwork decorations. It looked like a house out of a fairy tale. However, the interior was exquisitely decorated. The wall facing the yard was almost entirely made of glass, allowing a clear view of the garden flowers and plants.

The first floor was a leisure area, with decorative wooden panels as partitions, dining and tea-drinking spaces, and two hanging baskets near the glass wall for reading and resting. Furthermore, a small indoor garden was set up in the living room, specifically designed to cater to Ruby Sullivan’s hobby of growing herbs.

The second floor primarily housed the bedrooms and study, with a special room designed for Honey and Seth to conduct experiments.

Ruby felt as if she had stepped into a dreamy fairy tale world. She cautiously pushed the wicker hanging baskets, "So, are we moving?"

Ethan gently wrapped his arms around her waist, "I want to use this house as a betrothal gift and ask you to marry me."

He looked at her with a smile, his tone somewhat playful, blushing awkwardly.

He thought it would be a natural progression, but didn’t expect to feel so nervous and even a bit shy when he formally asked her.

No wonder in those online proposal videos, both the man and woman are often teary-eyed. Thinking of the woman in front of him agreeing to spend her life by his side made him extremely excited.

Ruby truly didn’t expect him to propose suddenly, and for a moment, she froze.

She wasn’t exhilarated or nervous, the first feeling that emerged was surprisingly fear...

She didn’t know why she felt this way. In this situation, the female lead should probably embrace him and share a passionate kiss. But she just wanted to escape, instinctively wanting to pull his hands apart first, catch her breath, and then speak.

"I’m sorry..." She lightly pulled his hand away, turned, and stepped aside, "Are you serious?"

Ethan had anticipated such a reaction from her, but seeing it in reality made him feel somewhat hurt.

He stepped forward, intending to take her hand, but hesitated and withdrew.

He didn’t want to pressure her.

"Do you feel my proposal lacks sincerity?" He stood behind her, tilting his head slightly to look at her profile, cautiously probing, afraid he’d say something to upset her.

Ethan swore he had never been this nervous before, his throat felt tight, and his voice even seemed to tremble.

Actually, he had been thinking about proposing for a long time. Even though he knew that deep down Ruby was still a young girl at heart and probably looked forward to it, he thought no form of proposal could surpass pure honesty between them.

When he bought this house, he didn’t know her well enough. Although he also intended to lead a good life, his motives weren’t entirely pure. Part of the reason was Honey and Seth, but now it’s different.

All his reasons boiled down to those two inexplicable words: love.

Bringing her here was his way of laying all the past unpleasantness on the table, speaking openly, holding nothing back, stripping off his facade, and offering her his entire, sincere heart.

This proposal, with no flamboyant surprises or romantic assurances, was uniquely his own, consisting solely of a true heart.

But he originally only had half the confidence, and seeing her reaction, he somewhat regretted it.

Ruby remained silent, lost in her world, entirely missing Ethan’s earlier words.

This reaction made Ethan even more anxious, prompting him to explain: "If you don’t like it, I have prepared another proposal."

Only then did Ruby snap back to reality, looking even more bewildered. Another proposal? What on earth?

"Wait a moment." Seeing her turn to look at him, Ethan couldn’t afford further delay and strode up the stairs. "Wait for me, don’t come up." Halfway up, he turned back apprehensively to instruct further.

"Okay." Ruby agreed, her face still puzzled. Preparing a Plan B for a proposal was indeed characteristic of Mr. Sterling.

She chuckled, sitting in the hanging basket, gazing at the already withered rose garden outside, still pondering her earlier response.

She couldn’t articulate a reason to refuse, but it seemed she couldn’t quite find a reason to agree either.

Isn’t life pretty good now? Except... for the lack of... intimacy... Could it be... he can’t endure it anymore?

Thinking of this practical issue, Ruby furrowed her brows, contemplating seriously.

Logically, they were at the age of rampant passion, weren’t they? Abstinence might seem unbelievable to others, but once put into practice, over time, it becomes a habit. Everyone remains aware of the boundaries, respecting them to avoid making things too risky.

Hmm... Recalling the recent nights before bedtime, she shyly smiled.

Lately, she had been too exhausted, always falling asleep right after showering. One night, she even snored so loudly it kept Mr. Sterling awake all night.

So... had he been exercising restraint all this time, and had now finally reached his limit?
