Chapter 501: I Have Come Prepared

"What should we do now, Boss?" The subordinate’s question reached Marius’ earpiece, to which the blonde man responded with a simple,

"Secure the goods. Wait for my next signal."

"Yes, Sir!"

The waves churned as though foretelling the impending tempest of the night. The piercing beams were so bright that Marius had to shield his eyes. If he had to describe the current scene, it was like the creature of the shadows had been abruptly yanked into the glaring light, laying bare its corruption and decay hidden for decades.

Any other person would have panicked, but Marius’ gaze remained unwaveringly gentle as it lingered upon Luo Xuan to the extent that the omega began to show a trace of annoyance, having not received the reaction he was waiting for.

Marius chuckled with a knowing twinkle in his eyes, "What a pity. It seems like we can only take a raincheck, don’t you think so?"

Genuine surprise flashed through Luo Xuan’s eyes, though he swiftly concealed it behind an amused expression, arching a brow. "You’re still planning to go through with the deal? Why don’t you think of a way to save yourself out of this situation first?"

By this point, the pretense had all but crumbled between them. Given Luo Xuan’s reaction, Marius should have realized that he had orchestrated this— or more accurately, he should have known this was a trap right from the moment they sealed the deal. Yet not only did he really show up in person, he also exuded perfect composure at such a critical time, making Luo Xuan seem like a joke. His gentle yet obscure smile only heightened the omega’s distaste toward him.

Of course, the fact that he was an Alpha also added to Luo Xuan’s disdain. He loathed all Alphas in the world, except for one.

Marius pressed his knuckles to his lips and laughed softly, as though he was not currently surrounded by a few large vessels and hundreds of highly capable officers who were just waiting for the right time to cuff his wrists. "Please cease your worry," he remarked, causing the corner of Luo Xuan’s eye to twitch ominously. "Do you truly believe I was here to surrender myself? Of course not. I have come prepared."

As if on cue, the rumble of helicopter rotor blades reverberated through the air, and two private helicopters soon entered the scene.

The door of one chopper stood ajar, revealing a dark silhouette crouched within with a rifle poised at hand. Without any preamble, he opened fire, releasing a series of shots skimming across the water’s surface to dissuade the motorboats of the opposing forces from advancing.

"Fuck!" The man on the motorboat cursed loudly as he swerved the vessel to the side, urgently reaching for his walkie-talkie. "Agent Thomas reporting. We are facing two helicopters on the other side. We can’t push forward! Please give your instructions!"

On the main vessel, the Commander of the operation muttered a string of curses under his breath. He issued an urgent order, "Request immediate assistance from the nearest air force. We must not let Marius Morningstar escape!" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Commander, please allow us to go," a deep voice chimed in from behind him.

The commander turned around to find his most elite team, consisting of Alphas and Betas who had undergone rigorous high-intensity training and were the most proficient in this ambush mission. Meeting the team captain’s gaze, he immediately understood their intention, "You plan to swim there?"

"Yes," the Captain asserted in a firm tone. "The visibility underwater is low, and the sniper in the helicopter will not be able to spot us. This is the fastest way to catch them off guard. Please grant us your permission, Commander!" Being an Alpha, a superior grade at that, his commanding presence exuded an air of self-assured dominance that lent credibility to his words. It was as if he could really achieve what he said he would.

The Commander only pondered for a second before deciding that the Captain was right. They could no longer afford to wait for assistance, as Marius could flee the scene at any moment. He nodded resolutely, "You have my permission, Agent Tak."

Tak Jung-Hwa snapped his legs together and stood at attention, saluting, "Received, Sir!"

Meanwhile, inside the helicopter.

Decked out in sleek black tactical gear, vests and goggles, He Juan maintained a vigilant watch over the Interpol’s vessels, making sure that none of them could get to either Marius or Luo Xuan. Seeing that the motorboats were hesitating, he reached out to tap on his earpiece, saying, "The coast is clear. M, get out of there as soon as possible." His tone was tinged with slight urgency. His instinct told him that the Interpol would not remain passive for long. There must be a few who were already lurking underwater, but he could not spot them from his high vantage point. Thus the best way to avoid any potential risks was to retreat.

A buzz in his ear, then Marius responded with a mirthful chuckle, presumably amused by how much of a worrywart he was, "Got it."

The second helicopter hovered above the smaller boats and threw down a rope ladder. Marius signaled for his subordinate to climb first before he grabbed onto the end of the ladder. He turned to Luo Xuan, intending to bid his goodbye, only to discover that the omega’s gaze was fixed upward, on the other helicopter.

"Is that XIU?" he asked, his voice sounding muffled amidst the cacophonous rotor blades. "Did he tag along with you?"

But Marius merely offered a warm smile and waved, "See you again next time." He hoisted himself up and began to climb the ladder, but in that critical moment, a few heads popped up from beneath the water, and one of them did not hesitate to fire at him!

"Do not move, or the next shoot will land on you!"

The bullet flew near Marius’ ear, causing him to wince. Witnessing that, He Juan’s breath caught on his throat and he barked out a command to the other helicopter. "Pull up the ladder! Now!" As he spoke, he aimed his rifle and fired a shot toward the water, suppressing the Interpol agents and covering Marius’ back. When he saw one of the agents drawing nearer to Luo Xuan, he shot them down too with no mercy.

The rope ladder ascended swiftly, whisking Marius away into the safety of the helicopter’s cabin as bullets sprayed erratically around him.

He Juan finally exhaled in relief when he saw that the helicopter was taking off, bringing Marius away from the circle of ambush. After that, he shifted his attention back to the situation below where he continued to provide cover for Luo Xuan’s retreat. Under his protective watch, Luo Xuan expertly steered his speedboat back to the cargo ship.

Halfway through, the omega unexpectedly turned and, for an instant, their gazes seemed to collide in midair.

He Juan’s heart abruptly skipped a beat. Had Luo Xuan spotted him? No, impossible. With the amount of light shining in the omega’s direction, it was impossible for him to be able to catch He Juan’s appearance.

In spite of that, He Juan’s emotions remained in great turmoil. He had come here to assist Marius, but upon seeing Luo Xuan being surrounded, he couldn’t help but offer a helping hand as well. He cursed himself for being too soft-hearted. Just this one time, he told the imaginary Luo Xuan in his mind, yet it also sounded as if he was trying to convince himself. Consider this my way of repaying you for helping me avenge my parents. After this, we do not owe each other anymore.

He, too, was prepared to retreat once he saw that Luo Xuan had safely reached the cargo ship. The omega’s fighting prowess notwithstanding, the people he brought would be more than enough to protect his life. However, just as he was about to act, an alarmed cry pierced the air behind him. "Fuck, what’s happening to them?!"

Whipping his head around, He Juan’s blood instantly ran cold when he witnessed the other helicopter – the one carrying Marius – beginning to lose control as it careened erratically through the sky.
