Chapter 437: What A Deranged Bastard

cw: mentions of r*pe and abuse

After taking care of the payment and collecting the prescribed medicines, He Juan returned to the VIP room to find Jia Molei staring blankly at the ceiling.

"You’re awake?" he asked, already feeling exhausted from listening to the doctor’s angry rant and enduring the strange looks from the nurses. He had been waiting for Jia Molei to regain consciousness for so long that he couldn’t even make it home in time to have dinner with Mu Yuze.

Tossing the bag of medicines on the nightstand, he dragged a chair and sat down beside the bed. "So are you going to talk? Or should I try to guess and see if I get them right?"

Jia Molei closed his eyes shut and turned his head away from He Juan, pretending to be an ostrich. "Fuck, are you really going to—"

He Juan immediately lost his patience and interjected, "The one who did this to you... it’s the Manipulator, right?" He knew he had hit the mark when Jia Molei tensed up in an instant. Jaws clenched, He Juan shut his eyes tight and took a deep breath to quell the burning fury in his heart. Jia Molei had been through a lot today, and He Juan knew he should let the man rest, but unfortunately, he did not feel like giving him any leeway. Not today.

He spoke through gritted teeth, "I will not meddle in your personal affairs if you two are only hooking up like the mature and level-headed adults you should be. But it’s different now. Have you looked at yourself?! He—"

"Stop," Jia Molei hissed in a low voice, but He Juan pressed on.

"—practically r*ped you! He wounded you, tortured and abused you! You were still bleeding down there when I brought you to the hospital!" He Juan’s voice raised a notch. But then realizing he had become lost in his emotions, he abruptly stood up and walked toward the window, cursing under his breath. "Damn it!"

Running his fingers through his hair, He Juan released a deep sigh. His furious reflection stared back at him through the window pane. "You owe me, Jia Molei. Do you have any idea how the doctors and nurses looked at me? They thought I was the one who did this to you!"

A muffled laughter came from behind, and He Juan turned around with suppressed anger in his voice, "You can still laugh?!" If Jia Molei weren’t so severely injured, He Juan would have grabbed him by the collar and taught him a lesson.

"Ah, fuck. My bad, it’s just so funny..." Jia Molei’s laughter eventually faded. He still had his face turned away from He Juan, revealing only the line of his neck and the black and purple bruises that marred it.

He Juan had never considered Jia Molei to be weak. Hidden beneath his pristine white coat was a body of muscles, tattoos, and unyielding spirit. Yet for some reason, he looked extremely fragile and vulnerable right now lying on the hospital bed with both his arms in casts.

"Why aren’t you saying anything?" He Juan demanded, growing frustrated. "Things have gotten up to this point, and you still want to defend him?!"

Jia Molei turned and snapped back at him, "I don’t fucking want to defend that son of a bitch, okay?! It’s just—" His words caught in his throat, and He Juan was taken aback to see the rims of his eyes turning red.

He Juan’s anger dissipated in an instant and was replaced by fluster. He hovered around Jia Molei, unsure of what to do. "D–Don’t cry," he said in a feeble attempt to comfort. "Are you... are you thirsty? Should I get you some water? Or maybe you’d like something to eat—" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"For fuck’s sake, stop. Don’t treat me like this, it’s so humiliating..." He wanted to rub the dampness on his eyes, only to be reminded that he could not use both of his hands right now. To save the last shred of his dignity, he could only turn his head away and let the tears seep into the pillow. His voice quivered as he choked out, "I’m just... so frustrated! I fought back with everything I had, but in the end, he could still overpower me..."

He took a deep inhale to steel himself, and his voice became firmer when he spoke again,

"We agreed to keep things casual when we first started. It was going well initially. We would meet only when we needed to blow off some steam or have fun, but lately... he became more obsessive. He wanted to know where I was and what I was doing all day, and when I ignored him, he barged into my clinic and interfered with my work. Today is the last straw... I slipped and told him that I would close my clinic and move somewhere far away. I was not kidding. I have been planning to start anew somewhere, and his actions just made me more certain of my decision."

Jia Molei wanted to move away? He Juan raised a surprised brow, as he had not heard anything like this before.

As though sensing his inquiry, Jia Molei admitted with a sigh, "I don’t know, I guess... I’ve just been enlightened. I can’t keep on like this; doing illegal practice and exposing myself to danger. As unbelievable as it sounds, even a ruffian like me has dreams, you know. But then I realized that I can’t pursue my dream like this, so I am planning to leave the underworld for good, but..." he trailed off, and his voice became strained as if relieving a horrible memory. "You can guess what happened next. Ku Jin was furious and he broke my arms as a warning. He threatened that... if I dared to run away... he would find me even to the end of the world and break my legs too..."

"Fuck, what a deranged bastard," He Juan could not help but curse, anger coursing through his veins. "How the hell did you get tangled up with such a psycho?"

Jia Molei let out a bitter laugh. "Fucking right, I was wondering about that too."

He Juan ran his fingers through his hair in frustration, only for his movements to stop halfway when a thought crossed his mind. Should he just kill that motherfucker?

He had never killed without a justifiable reason before, but now Jia Molei had given him a compelling one. Either way, Ku Jin had long been a thorn in his side. The only issue was that he was Boss Xuan’s right-hand man...

He Juan had no idea how Luo Xuan would react if he killed his right hand man. Would it be considered an act of betrayal to the organization? Perhaps he should ask Luo Xuan for permission first? If he took Ku Jin out, there would be a power vacuum within the organization, upsetting the balance.

Unless he could find someone equally capable to replace Ku Jin... or step into the role himself...

He Juan shook his head to erase the thought. What was he even considering? It was not only Jia Molei who wanted to leave the underworld behind; he had that same desire as well. After all, he had made a promise to his little brother that they would live together again...

Unable to make up his mind, He Juan decided to put it aside for now and ponder it later. He pinched his brows and told Jia Molei, "For now, rest and recuperate. I don’t think that madman will come after you anytime soon. Once you’re ready, I’ll take care of your discharge procedures. You should come with me. At least, with me by your side, Ku Jin won’t act recklessly."

Jia Molei turned to him in shock, and hastily rejected the idea, "Are you crazy?! You—"

"It’s settled," He Juan’s tone was firm and left no room for refusal. "You said it yourself that you can’t win against him. If he comes again, what will you do? Besides..." He softened his tone and mustered a helpless smile. "You called me. You asked for my help. What kind of friend would I be if I stood by and watched you suffer like this?"

Jia Molei was still not convinced, "But—"

"Then just consider it as me repaying a favor," He Juan finally resorted to the last method. "If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have met Miss Liang, and she couldn’t have become the prime minister either. The dominoes could only fall because you gave them a push. This time, just shut up and let me help you."
