Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 438: The World Of Adults
As soon as Jia Molei was discharged from the hospital, He Juan took the man away with him.
At first, he had considered offering one of his houses to Jia Molei for a temporary stay, but then he became worried that the doctor would not be able to take care of himself properly with his broken arms. What if he broke something and hurt himself further? What if he slipped in the bathroom and hit his head? Or worse, what if a burglar snuck in while he was sleeping?! The more He Juan thought about it, the more uneasy he became. In the end, he decided to leave Jia Molei in the safest place within the city — Marius’ villa.
The place had a top-notch security system. Moreover, there were also people who would be able to give Jia Molei a hand in case he was met with an accident.
He Juan paid no heed to Jia Molei’s protests as he drove the man to the villa, despite the doctor’s insistence that he could take care of himself just fine.
It happened to be the day when He Juan, Marius and Ye Qiu were going undercover in the bar, and thus everyone had gathered in the living room.
"Everyone," He Juan clasped the grumpy-faced man’s shoulder while introducing him. "This is my buddy, Jia Molei. He will be staying with you temporarily. Please take care of him, okay?"
Awkwardly, Jia Molei added, "Apologies... for the intrusion..."
He Juan was positively amused seeing him so tense and polite like this. He teased, "What? Don’t tell me that you’re nervous facing a group of children?"
"Damn right," Jia Molei glared at him and hissed in a low voice. "I have never dealt with children before, bastard! And you even go as far as to tell them to take care of me?! Where will I put my fucking face?!"
He Juan clicked his tongue in disapproval, "Xiao Gu and the others are good children. Besides, their survival skills might even be better than yours. Why do you still care about your face when you’re practically crippled now?"
Marius stepped forward and flashed a gentleman smile like the excellent host he was. "Doctor Jia? I have heard about you from XIU. Please do not stand on ceremony with us. There are plenty of vacant rooms in this house, so feel free to stay as long as you need. Oh, look at my manners. Allow me to introduce myself. You can just call me M. The lady over here is Ye Qiu, and these are Xiao Gu, Xiao Hu, Xiao Tang..."
Though the children still acted timid around He Juan, it did not mean that they did not trust him. Children were simple that way – they trusted He Juan, and thus they also welcomed the person he brought along. Moreover, having lived on the run for months, they had developed the skill for discerning people’s intentions toward them. As they could sense that Jia Molei was not a bad person, they quickly warmed up to him, much to He Juan’s chagrin.
"Why are both your arms wrapped like a burrito?" Xiao Hu, the ever curious one, couldn’t help but ask.
Jia Molei tried to lift the corner of his lips into a friendly smile, though it came out more like he had muscle spasm instead, "I broke my arms, that’s why."
The children gasped in horror. "That must have hurt so much!" Despite that, they still swarmed around him and stared at his casts in curiosity, wanting to poke and touch but not daring to.
"Guys, don’t crowd around Doctor Jia," Ye Qiu cleared her throat in warning, and the children stepped back obediently at once. Ye Qiu lowered her head in apology, "I’m sorry for their unruly behavior, Doctor Jia. They really mean no harm."
"It’s okay, really," Unable to use his hands to express himself, Jia Molei could only shake his head side to side. "You... You don’t need to apologize. I can tell that they’re good children."
Soon, Ye Qiu ushered the children to the kitchen to prepare dinner together, while Marius excused himself to answer an important phone call. Before leaving, he apologized to Jia Molei, "I’m sorry I can’t talk for long. I’m sure you must be tired. Let XIU show you to your room, shall he? We will call you when it’s time for dinner."
He Juan picked up Jia Molei’s suitcase and beckoned for him to follow, "Let’s go, Doctor Jia." As they walked further into the house, he explained, "The third floor is for Little Miss Ye and the children. Second floor is Marius’ domain, and you will stay in the guest room on the first floor. Is that okay?"
"Whatever, I am not picky. On the other hand, you..." He looked around to ensure that they were already out of the earshot before he fixed a piercing gaze on He Juan. "I have seen that man before. He is the drug lord of Myanmar, isn’t he? What the fuck is he doing here with you and... and a bunch of children, no less? They can’t be his illegitimate children, can they..."
He Juan blinked, taken aback by Jia Molei’s absurd imagination, before he burst out into laughter. "Goodness, no! Actually, none of them are blood-related. The reason they are here, well..." he shrugged wryly. "It’s a little complicated to explain and I’m sure you don’t want to hear me shooting my mouth off about business either. But what a surprise, Doctor Jia. I didn’t expect you to recognize him."
Jia Molei rolled his eyes, knowing that He Juan was trying to change the subject. However, he was aware of XIU’s reputation as a man of secrets and enigma and thus he played along and retorted, "Who are you trying to kid? I have been researching Golden Sand for years, and Myanmar is the sole distributor for that drug. Wouldn’t it be stupid of me if I couldn’t even recognize the person in charge?"
He Juan hummed and narrowed his eyes at him, "Fair enough... but I still don’t get why the children like you so much."
Jia Molei scoffed proudly, "Sorry to break the news to you, but I have always been very likable to children and animals. Wait," he suddenly realized something and turned to He Juan, flabbergasted. "Is that jealousy I’m hearing in your tone? Hey, XIU! Why are you walking so fast all of a sudden?! Wait for me, damn it!"
He Juan helped Jia Molei settle into his new room, and when they were done, it was just in time for dinner. They headed to the dining room, where a table of food welcomed them.
He Juan whistled as he put together a bowl for Jia Molei. "So much food. What’s the occasion?"
Ye Qiu let out a helpless sigh, "The children got carried away because they were worried, I suppose."
"But Ye-Jiejie," Xiao Tang murmured with a frown. "You have to eat more. You’re going to go to a dangerous place again..."
"I’m not even going inside this time," Ye Qiu reassured him with a pat on his head. "It’s M and XIU who are going this time. You should wish them luck."
"Either way!" Xiao Hu chimed in, not wanting to be left out. "The name Twilight Haven already gives me a bad feeling! What if there are blood-sucking vampires inside?!"
Jia Molei swallowed the spoonful of rice He Juan had just shoved into his mouth and repeated, "Twilight Haven?" he furrowed his brows. "You’re going there tonight?"
"Is there something wrong, Doctor Jia?" Marius asked, his curiosity piqued. "Do you know something about that place?"
"Well..." Jia Molei cast a hesitant glance at He Juan. When He Juan raised an eyebrow at him, he cleared his throat and said, "The last time I checked... there is an old acquaintance of mine and XIU inside. I’m not really clear about it, but it seems like he’s assisting the owner with something."
"Our old acquaintance?" He Juan was caught off guard. "Why didn’t this come up in the investigation? I had no idea someone I knew was there. Having support from the inside would make our mission much easier. Who is it?" he asked eagerly.
Jia Molei hesitated a bit more before he said, "It’s... A-Mu."

"Mu Yuze!"
Mu Yuze turned around when he heard his name being called and saw Zhong Yun running towards him, panting. "Are you going home now?" When he received Mu Yuze’s nod, he tutted, "No fun. Let’s hang out tonight, okay? I have been letting you off since you said you needed time to adjust to school life, and now it’s been a few months! You are not allowed to refuse again this time!"
The corner of Mu Yuze’s lips twitched. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
He had indeed asked Zhong Yun not to disturb him because he wanted to focus on studying, as he feared that he would not be able to catch up with normal curriculum again now that he had returned to school. However, it seemed like he had nothing to fear. The lessons covered by Teacher Wei had surpassed his current curriculum, leaving Mu Yuze bored and daydreaming in class most of the time.
"It’s getting dark. Where do you even want to go?" Mu Yuze asked just to entertain Zhong Yun, even though he had planned to reject the invitation once again.
He had a real excuse this time. In the past few days, he had been feeling under the weather. He would suddenly heat up and feel dizzy, yet his temperature remained normal. Even now he was feeling a little sluggish, and all he wanted was to curl up under Juan-gege’s clothes and sleep until tomorrow.
Zhong Yun showed a wicked grin and leaned in to whisper, "A bar."
Mu Yuze snapped his gaze toward him, incredulous. "Are you crazy? We’re minors!"
"Oh, come on, don’t be so uptight. It’s a completely safe bar, and Qiao Bingwen’s brother is the manager in that place. Last month, someone even celebrated their birthday there! I swear, there won’t be any alcohol! I will definitely not get you into trouble!" Zhong Yun raised three fingers to the sky.
When he saw that Mu Yuze still looked skeptical, he started to appeal, "Just this one time, okay? Just once, and I won’t bother you again! Besides, don’t you want to experience the world of adults? It’s only one or two more years until we become adults ourselves, so it doesn’t make much difference if we start sooner! Okay, okay, okay??"
Zhong Yun had said so much, but only one thing was stuck in Mu Yuze’s mind. "The world... of adults?"
He nodded again and again, putting on the most serious look he could muster. "Uh-huh! Don’t you know how all adults go to bars and have fun nowadays? We can’t let them outshine us!"
All of a sudden, Mu Yuze recalled that one time when He Juan had come home smelling of booze and parfum, only for his rut to be triggered the day after. An itchy sensation spread across his heart. Once in a while, he would wonder what He Juan had encountered there for him to be drenched in such pungent smells.
If he went to the bar, would he be one step closer to He Juan?
Before he knew it, he told Zhong Yun, "Maybe... just this once."
A strange sense of anticipation arose in his heart. Either way, He Juan had told him this morning that he would be very late today because he had a lot of work to do, so it would be okay for Mu Yuze to step out of his comfort zone and try out something new just this one time... right?
"Yess!" Zhong Yun cheered and punched his fist into the air, beaming from ear to ear. "It’s settled then! I will drop by your house at 9. Make sure to dress up nicely, okay? Twilight Haven is a quite famous bar in this area, after all! Who knows? Perhaps you will find someone you fancy!"
