Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 158: Dirt On Your Hands
Not too long after, a silver Porsche drove over and parked at the side of the road right behind the Maybach.
Anne had no choice but to allow Shawn examine her in the car.
"There seems to be nothing wrong at all." Shawn mused after doing a mild routine check on her.
"Have you been experiencing any severe symptoms lately?" He asked Anne gently, "Though morning sickness is normal the symptoms shouldn’t be too severe."
"I’ve only been having occasionally nausea and sometimes dizziness too, the symptoms fluctuate and it’s not persistent." She explained calmly.
"That sounds quite normal, and how’s your appetite?"
"It’s not constant either, sometimes I have cravings and other times I don’t want to eat anything at all."
Shawn nodded thoughtful while putting his medical equipment back into his medical bag.
"That’s fine too, on days you don’t feel like eating anything I’ll advice you have something light like soup, or a mild snack just to not be on an empty stomach, it’s imperative your body gets enough nutrition for two in this period." Shawn gave a few more gentle instructions and advice to which Anne nodded and thanked him lightly.
He stepped out of the car afterwards where Andrew was waiting right outside. The latter fixed him with a questioning look.
A small amused smile showed up on Shawn’s face,
"What did you say was wrong with her again?" He asked, because after checking, everything seemed fine with her and the pregnancy.
"Her complexion looked off during the drive so I told the driver to stop the car but then her eyes looked...she cried, so I called you. I heard some pregnancies come with complications, is something wrong?"
Andrew said it all in one breath. Shawn had never seen him notice things about others before, and the way he spoke about Anne felt like he kept tabs on every single movement and change in her expression.
Smilingly shaking his head, Shawn asked, "What do you know about pregnancy complications? So you concluded she was having issues just because you saw her cry?"
"What are you getting at, make your point clear." Andrew said.
"My point here is..." Shawn lowered his voice as he continued, "You care about your wife more than you let on."
"Stop trying to diagnose me with emotional ailments and tell me the damn thing I asked about. Is she having complications?" Despite his friend’s sharp retort, Shawn felt the urge to laugh.
It was interesting to see someone who clearly felt something but would never verbally admit to it.
"She’s fine, and her pregnancy is too. At this point it’s too early to detect complications but we can monitor any changes to the severity of her early pregnancy symptoms. Though these symptoms vary for every woman, it’s still imperative to keep track of how she feels at all times, the more information I have about what’s going on, the more it’ll help me further deduce if anything is wrong even before it happens. For now she’s absolutely fine, and know that her emotions will be on highs and lows, and if you truly want to help then you have to pay more attention to everything about her from now on and report to me if anything seems off."
A thoughtful frown sat on Andrew’s brow for a while, only after he’d concealed the relief that he felt but didn’t want to show.
"So you’re trying to say I should watch her at all times just to monitor if something could be wrong?" He asked to confirm.
Shawn knew fully well that Andrew had called him out of a sudden burst of concern for Anne even if nothing was wrong. And right now other than early symptoms that manifest as morning sickness, nothing could be detected on her, but it was quite fun to mess with his friend and give him a reason to be around the woman more.
"Yup, I’m talking live twenty four hour CCTV camera style. We never know when something might happen and we might miss a detail, it’s best you pay very close attention to her at all times."
What made it even funnier for Shawn was the fact that Andrew actually nodded seriously as if the words just spoken to him were laws he must abide by.
The man cared more about her than he wanted to admit, because why else would he be so willing to follow Shawn’s exaggerated instructions.
Concealing a smile, Shawn coughed into his fist and cleared his throat before saying,
"I’ll be off now." He said a casual goodbye before walking over to his car and drove away immediately.
....
The grand doors of the Sterling estate swung open upon their arrival, a pristine air swept out from the grand entrance.
Uniformed staff lined the entrance hallway, and they immediately echoed.
"Welcome home young master."
Anne had been to the Sterling estate once before, but it still didn’t make her feel accustomed to the grandness of the place. The sheer opulence seemed to seep through the exquisite walls and the soft Savonnerie carpets on the floors.
A colossal staircase swirled upwards upon entry to the majestic looking welcoming hall.
"You’re the definition of late, dear brother." Gabriel strolled down the stairs with a strangely calm ease to his steps.
His eyes reflected unconcealed malice towards Andrew.
There was an evident tension between the two brothers that made Anne suddenly feel awkward.
"Does my being late affect you so much Gabriel?"
As he reached them, Gabriel tore his eyes away from his brother settling on Anne. Though he was speaking to Andrew, his gaze was fixed on Anne as suddenly he picked her hand holding it in his own without restraint.
"Not exactly. But if I had such a lovely wife, I would eagerly want to show her off to the whole family, I wouldn’t be late for even a single minute." Gabriel muttered, trailing off at the end as he raised her hand to his lips and pressed his lips lightly against her knuckles.
Andrew’s face suddenly hardened, his jaw clenching as he reached over without hesitation and snatched her wrist out of his grip.
She flinched slightly due to the force with which he snatched her wrist from his brother.
It seemed like Andrew’s expression had suddenly changed in the span of a single moment.
Anne wondered why he suddenly looked so angry.
Was it because Gabriel had taken her hand and kissed it?
Or was it because he didn’t get along with his brother?
Andrew reached into his pocket and pulled out a white handkerchief, then suddenly began to wipe her hand specifically where Gabriel’s lips had touched.
He scrubbed off her hand as if there was a visible dirt on it.
After he was done he looked up at her, the rage evident in his eyes just a moment ago now controlled to a stern look as he said,
"It’s not good for you to get dirt on your hands." As he said this, his hard gaze drifted back to Gabriel as he deliberately locked her fingers with his own, holding her hand with a hint of possessiveness before striding away pulling her along.
Gabriel’s expression darkened.
