Chapter 157: Get Here Right Now

Several minutes later, butler Jones watched the black Maybach drive out of the Manor’s steel gates. He couldn’t help but wonder curiously how his master had caught a cold last night.

If the master had known what was good for himself, shouldn’t he have snuck into the mistress’s bed and cuddle himself into warmth? But he had to stubbornly find a way to escape her bedroom last night even when the butler had created an easy excuse for him.

The master sure knew how to torture himself. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

The butler shook his head regretfully with a sigh about to go back inside when he suddenly stopped, whirling towards the gates but the car had long disappeared.

A regretful look suddenly showed on butler Jones’ face.

How could he have forgotten?

The old master specifically asked him to inform master that along with the second branch family members, someone else had suddenly returned as well, and this person was someone master Andrew most definitely wouldn’t want to see or be anywhere around.

Now that he’d forgotten to mention this person’s presence, the master would certainly be shocked seeing them.

Not just shocked...seeing this person unannounced, the master would be furious.

Butler Jones quickly rushed back inside, grabbing the nearest phone and he began to dial Andrew’s number but the latter wasn’t picking up. After calling a few times, he contemplated calling the mistress instead but quickly decided against it.

If there was one thing the butler knew about Andrew, it was the undeniable fact that he was a very closed off man.

The things that had once hurt him in his life, he always kept buried away. He never wanted anyone to see it, and most definitely not the people around him on a day to day basis.

The mistress was a new addition in his life, and the fact that the master still had his walls up even against her wasn’t hidden, if the mistress was to be the one to tell him about this person’s arrival, he might direct his displeasure at her, not to mention the master could as well decide to not go to the family breakfast entirely.

Though the old master asked him to inform Andrew, butler Jones quietly put down the phone instead.

One thing was certain, this breakfast wouldn’t be a simple family meal, as long as this person would be there.

.....

Anne sat far too close to the windows, the man next to her in the car was talking composedly on the phone, his tone firm and professional.

Trees whizzed by outside and the morning cold was a little denser today. Anne felt slightly sick on this particular morning, it had been quite a while since she last felt this nauseous since her pregnancy.

Moving a bit uncomfortably, Anne placed her hand on her stomach gently willing the nausea to slowly ease itself.

Her chest slowly began to constrict, as the rolling discomfort in her stomach began to grow more intense, cold sweat was visibly forming on her brows and the intense queasiness made her fingers clench tighter around her stomach.

"...the stock market is going to be on a rise this week. These are my personal predictions and my predictions are never wrong... Stop the car."

Anne could faintly hear Andrew talking on the phone, then after a sudden pause he asked the driver to stop the car.

She didn’t think too much about it as he stepped out of the car, but a while later she saw his shadow on her side of the car and he pulled the door open.

Raising her head to gaze at him she saw him staring fixedly down at her,

"Get down." He instructed and when she continued to look up with surprise in her eyes he added, "You need some air don’t you?"

Anne was astonished to realize that he’d actually noticed her discomfort. She’d assumed he was engrossed in his official phone call that he wouldn’t be able to notice anything else, not to mention her.

Anne slowly stepped out of the car, and without the motion as the cold air hit her, she began to feel slightly better, her stomach settling from the unbearable queasiness that had plagued her a while ago.

"Feeling better?" His eyes searched hers as he asked.

With a weak smile, she nodded quietly.

He didn’t seem convinced, staring at her as if trying to decipher if she were actually feeling better when his phone rang once again.

He glanced down at the ID with a little bit of a troubled frown as he momentarily raised his gaze to ask her again, "Are you sure?"

She nodded with more certainty this time which made his probing gaze relax before he picked up the call walking a few steps away from the car as he began to speak on the phone.

Anne took a deep relaxing breath, grateful that the bout of nausea was quickly easing away.

The car had stopped on a clear road where only a few cars drove by, on the sides of the roads were tall trees that billowed with the wind.

Anne’s gaze went up to the clear blue skies, then shifted back down to the left towards where Andrew had gone to take his call.

He stood on a confidently straight posture, one hand in his pocket and another holding the phone to his ear.

His profile was rigid, his lips, a naturally pinkish color moved with each word he spoke.

The morning sun cast it’s rays against his face creating a halo that drizzled over his magnetic appearance, and in that moment, she was a little bit dazed.

His thick brows were furrowed in concentration giving away the fact that he was currently on an important call, his voice was a low melodic rumble from the distance he stood, though she couldn’t hear the exact words he was saying, the tone that drifted to her with the wind was soothing.

He always seemed to be in his element whenever he was discussing business, his tough world of steel and glass, stocks and market strategies...

It was said that a man was most appealing when he was working, it seemed very true for this man right here.

Maybe business and work were his comfort zone, anything outside of that was strange for him, anything like tolerating emotions and feelings as pure and human.

’...emotions are nothing but excuses people give themselves to be weak.’

She’d once heard him say, but she couldn’t help but wonder what could make a man like him happy.

Was business stocks and profits really enough to make him feel that thrill of joy? Was that really all there was to his life?

Anne realized that the day she would manage to make a man like him laugh, she would truly feel accomplished. He was too firm, too unalterable, too unyielding, too rigid.

Could nothing truly break his walls and peel open a man inside him that can laugh happily, live happily, warmly, with feelings...with love.

She stopped herself at this thought.

Love.

She already felt it.

At this moment, he hung up the call and began to approach her again.

The closer he came to her, the faster her heart was beating.

She...had fallen in love with him.

She realized again and this time fear filled her heart.

Her desire...she wouldn’t have possibly felt it for someone else, it was only for him.

Her heart...it wouldn’t beat this fast for someone else, it was only for him.

This love, welling in her heart everytime she looked at him even while knowing deep inside that he didn’t feel the same ... would this love break her?

When the time for the line to be drawn between them came, when the time for her to never step back into his life came...her heart would shatter.

Her heart would break unbearably.

He stopped right in front of her and she couldn’t tear her gaze off him.

In the past this very face was what she would call arrogant, insufferable, and annoying.

Now she saw something else looking at him and what she saw made her heart ache.

Slow, stinging tears welled in her eyes and she didn’t realize her expression was currently reflecting an internal pain.

She truly, indeed was doomed but she couldn’t help it, she also had no idea when her heart had glued itself to him.

He was in her life as two different people and when those two people became one, that was when her feelings settled firmly inside her.

He watched her face and the frown on his face grew deeper, he suddenly raised his phone again quickly tapping on the screen and made another call

Anne didn’t realize the call he was making at the moment was because of her.

When someone answered on the other end. Andrew quickly said,

"Shawn, I’ll share you my location, I’ll need you to come here right now...

"No, not at home. Something seems to be wrong..."

It was only after a while that Anne belatedly realized that he’d called the doctor for her.

She quickly snapped out of it and wiped the tears about to spill from her eyes before quickly saying,

"No, there’s no need to call the doctor, I’m really feeling fine now."

He gazed at her while the phone was still held against his ear, his other hand suddenly moved towards her lightly brushing against her cheek, he retracted his hand and rubbed on the moisture he’d just touched on her cheek.

"Doesn’t seem fine to me." He muttered before saying into the phone,

"No Shawn, get here right now."
