Chapter 275: Universe

"Qin An."

The situation inside the room was abruptly halted when they heard someone’s words. Qin An subconsciously stopped back and saw who came.

It was He Li.

The latter was looking at them with an expression that he couldn’t understand but he just stepped back again subconsciously, totally distancing himself to Zhi Anming.

"Marshal!" Zhi Anming’s body suddenly went stiff and he greeted the man with nervousness. However, He Li didn’t even bother to look at the young man and his eyes just settled on Qin An.

"...." The atmosphere suddenly turned cold when He Li’s presence was inserted and the awkward silence engulfed the room.

Zhi Anming looked at the two and felt like he needed to leave the room. Although he really doesn’t want to. He still wanted to say something about Qin An privately but looking at the Marshal who had no intention, he knew he had to leave instead.

Aside from that, he also couldn’t bear to stay in this room anymore, especially with the Marshal’s presence in front of him.

Thus he quietly waves at Qin An and swiftly leaves the room, even closing the door for them.

After a moment of that silence, it was He Li who broke the stiff atmosphere.

"You should open the windows." Then he just proceeded on switching the buttons before Qin An could even agree.

Qin An definitely didn’t know what he was suddenly up to but his attention went to the view outside the window when it was fully open.

Unlike the bright blue sky that he often saw in broad daylight or the darkness of the night, something that landed on his eyes right now made him stunned.

His eyes widened a bit as he fell into a daze when he saw what’s outside.

It was too vast. There was no pure darkness he always sees below but the sky was covered with velvet black mixed with blue and purple like colors around. The tiny lights seemed to shine brighter up close and he could see tons of them— even millions to count.

He stands right now in front of something he never saw throughout his life as a grim reaper. Just staring at the vast universe up close like this, it was very different from the stunning nature of wonders. Even if there was no sea of forest nor the seemingly endless ocean, the breathtaking space in front of him made him realize something.

There’s still too many things and places in this world that he never sees.

"It’s beautiful, isn’t it?" He Li’s voice wakes him up. Qin An looked at the man with confusion on his face. He was wondering why the man is suddenly acting like this.

"There are still many many things that you haven’t done in this world," the man suddenly looked at him straight in the eyes and asked.

"If you are still a human, can you achieve it?"

He paused. "What do you mean?"

"Humans can die. There will be an end to something that you’ll always do, such as life. No matter how this world can have technologies to prolong the natural aging of a human, there’s still death at the end. Now that you have this willingness to explore the world, there will be an inevitable end."

Qin An didn’t answer him because he knows that it’s true.

Even if he’s actually a grim reaper right now, his body still remains as a human. A body like this is very fragile and cannot withstand too much danger unlike his past body. He needs to be more careful and be aware of the limits that he can do for now.

"If you have the chance to become who you were in the past... will you accept it?"

He Li’s question stunned him.

"I just thought about how you look at the universe earlier. There’s an anticipation about seeing what truly the world we are in."

That’s true.

When he saw the breathtaking universe, Qin An had this thought.

A growing wish inside his heart— about wanting to travel around and see every wonders that he could possibly see in this world.

But just like He Li said, this body has a limit. A human body can grow tired, sick, age... and death.

It’s ironic that death was like a companion to him that wherever he goes, he will be accompanied by it in a different way. He’ll always be connected and be associated with death.

From He Li’s question, if he’s given a chance to become a fully grim reaper again, will he accept it? Because now that he knows the beauty of how to live, how could he not wish to have a longer life to experience all the things he could think of?

Qin An also remembered flashbacks about his colleagues. How eager they were to slack off and wander around like a normal human being. But unlike humans who have to guard their life, grim reapers aren’t.

They can have the freedom of the things they want. They can have the longest life that they want and use that time to fulfill all the wishes you can think in between.

If he’s really given a chance, will he accept?

Honestly, he didn’t know what to answer.

He shouldn’t, right? Because that was the chance he wasted in his past life. This could be a great opportunity for him. Yet, why does he seem not to feel happy about it?

Why wasn’t there anticipation and hope for that possible new life for him?

"... how about you?" Qin An couldn’t help but ask the man instead after a moment of his silence.

Suddenly, he wanted to ask about the man’s perspective too.

But He Li didn’t answer and their gaze went back to the view outside.

Qin An was once again fascinated by it. He unknowingly steps forward and raises his hand. His palm touched the cold glass wall but he didn’t seem to mind as his eyes were glued intently at the endless universe just right in front of him.

If he could see this world for as much as he wants, will he really choose this path again?

Behind him and unknown to him, He Li wasn’t looking at the sight outside but on the young man’s back instead.

He could feel the stinging pain inside his head. Unlike where he can confidently endure the pain everyday, ever since that last battle, he feels that the pain became just somehow lightly unbearable for him.

The aching seems to be much more than a tenthfold from the past which made him not used to it.

In addition... he seems to be dreaming quite a lot these following nights too.

And it’s just about the young man’s life in front of him.

It’s just that he’s confused... Why?
