Chapter 45: The Ten Suns

"I TOLD YOU I COULD DO IT," Ekoh’s voice rang loud in Nioh’s exhausted mind.

"Yes! Yes! I never doubted you for a second" Nioh pacified the excited biocore as he proceeded to complete the leftover circuit connections

"Uncle William, please send X to the lab with food and energy biocores," he said while pressing an intercom button.

Although he was reluctant to show it, Magnus was very worried about the weapon crafting. He was born privileged, money, talent, influence, good looks he had it all. He never felt like he had to work for anything until he went to that place. He understood the world was much larger than he thought and that his little bit of talent didn’t mean much.

For the first time, he discovered defeat and camaraderie. He had the passion and drive to achieve something. Unfortunately, his talent stood in the way. A railgun was a great weapon to have, but it was too powerful to control and too rigid to strategize around. Instead of an asset, he quickly became a handicap to those who tried to team up with him.

Eventually, he decided to take a break and enjoy the mondaine world in hopes that one day, a miracle would allow him to achieve his dreams again. He bet it all on a deaf child.

If his father knew, he would have whacked him to death. It has been two weeks, and that child had not stepped out of the laboratory once. "Did he fail? Did he succeed?" all were questions that haunted him continuously.

"Yes! Uncle William" Magnus picked up the incoming call from his butler.

" The young master, demands that you meet him in the lab immediately," the old butler said.

"Did he fail, or succeed?" Magnus questioned while closing his eyes.

"The young master did not give any details. But asked me to free up a training room"

Magnus’s blue eyes glowed with excitation as he answered "I am on my way".

The descent to the laboratory was rapid for Magnus. After hanging up the call, he ran down the stairs like the building was on fire. Right now, he was before the entrance, and his hands were shaking.

He took a deep breath and pushed the door open to an unbelievable scene. It looked like a storm had walked in before him. Papers, materials, and tools were upside down. The workbenches were encumbered, and so was the floor. Leaving barely any place for movement. The chief scientist was seated in the middle of the mess, being spoon-fed by his guard.

His face twitched repeatedly "How unprofessional," he thought.

"Oh, you are here," Nioh said, barely acknowledging his presence.

"What is going on here?" he asked.

"This is his normal working environment. Don’t be too surprised," X responded.

"I mean, why are you feeding him?"

"Oh! He has this bad habit of focusing too much on work. He hasn’t showered, eaten, or slept since he walked into that room"

A shocked expression was plastered on Magnus’s face. He had heard of laser-focused people, but it was the first time he saw one.

"Your weapon is on the table over there," Nioh said, pointing at a small box above a pile of other nonsense.

" It’s fine if you failed, but is there a need to play with my emotions? I asked you to solve the weight problem and allow for flexibility. Are you telling me the weapon is in that small box?" Magnus flared in anger. He had high hopes, but he did not believe in miracles. He understood the constraints associated with his weapon. He did not want to be made fun of by a child.

"Arrrh! Stop screaming my head still hurts." Nioh cut him. "Help me stand," he asked X, who executed immediately. He walked wobbly to stand before Magnus and looked him straight in the eye.

" An afront of the sort will not be tolerated again. I may be offering you a service, but I am still the son of the monarch. We had a deal, and I fulfilled my part of the deal. If you are not satisfied, you can take it up with god."

The sharp words and the unshaken gaze sent a chill down Magnus’s spine. He couldn’t find a word to retaliate and could only focus on the box at hand.

As soon as he opened it, the ten golden rings inlaid with red ruby stones were his style. Although they felt a little heavy, he adored them instantly. X passed him the performance sheets, and as he read through them, his expression alternated between disbelief and excitement.

He wanted to ask a question, but upon raising his head, the culprit had fallen asleep standing.

"He asked that all the results of the testing be recorded for when he wakes up"

"Is he alright?"

"Just exhausted, he will be up in three or four days." "He put a lot of effort into it, and he called it the ten Suns."

Magnus stretched his hands, and the ten rings lodged themselves like they always belonged. A coursing zap of energy coursed throughout his body, and a real connection was made. The rings felt both familiar and new as each glowed in acknowledgment.

This was the real deal he could feel it. Uncle William, who was watching from the side, drew a vivid smile because he could tell the master was satisfied.

Magnus walked to the training room across and decided to test the output.

The ring on his right index finger glowed red while Magnus picked a gold coin. With a flicker, the coin was projected at mack speed, and a loud explosion followed.

A smile plastered his face, and he tried again and again. There was no uncontrolled destruction; the rings were light, nice, and stylish. The power scaling increased with the amount of rings activated at the same time.

He finally had it, his own flexible and destructive railgun. A tear dropped from his eyes while he came to terms with the fact that the boy had succeeded.

"Uncle William, he did it," he said. It was a very emotional moment for the Master, and Uncle William was more than happy to witness it. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

Nioh slept for four days before appearing in public again, just as X predicted. Magnus visited multiple times, sometimes with a doctor, just to be sure the young prince was alright but was turned down every single time by the latter.

He thought it was disgraceful for his highness to be seen in such an unsightly manner. Nioh, on the other hand, slept like a log, nothing mattered other than recovery for him.

As soon as he woke up, he gobbled enough food to make up for the days he had starved himself. While eating, the cogs in his brain were spinning at full force.

"What are you scheming, again?" X asked, looking at his master.

"Why do you always think I am scheming something?"

"The question is, when are you not scheming something?" X retorted, "You need to take better care of your health. If you were my brother, I would have..." Realizing the overstep in his language, he stopped and gave a smile.

"Don’t always think I am up to no good"

"Yes"

"I want to meet Xenah can you arrange for it"

"I will get in touch with the marshall and set it up"

"Ah! You are finally awake," Magnus spoke loudly as he walked into the guest room Nioh rested in. "I would like to speak to your Prince alone." He added. After a head nod from Nioh, X exited the room, leaving the two face-to-face.

Nioh noticed Magnus was wearing the rings he had designed proudly. "Anything to report from the testing?" he asked.

"Absolutely nothing! It fits like a glove. The recoil is quite hard to handle after five rings, but I should also put in some effort." Magnus answered truthfully.

"That’s good then".

Magnus sent a token flying in his direction and said, " This is your entry token. You will be tested at the entrance. Nothing you can’t handle, but let me warn you, the competition is very fierce."

"Thank You," Nioh answered while he fiddled with the black token.

" Do you want to join the order of the crow?"Magnus’s question elicited a brow raise from Nioh.

"Let me put it more simply. In that place, there are lots of representatives from very powerful worldwide organizations like the Order of the Crow and the Alliance. Nothing like the small fries in your fiefdom but the true deciders in the state of the world. The Order of the Crow was founded by a group of merchants as old as the biocore, and we control the trading industry worldwide anything you need to find the Order is capable of delivering."

" I don’t have time at the moment, make your offer again in four years. In the meantime, I need a favor with something else"

"I am listening"
