Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 117: Homecooked Dinner
"...Oh, did I tell you that I met the son of Kronos’ Eldest Child when I was Astral Projecting?"
"This is the first I’ve heard of this. Which one was the Eldest Child anyway? Zeus?"
She questioned with a raised brow as she accepted the ingredients she bought from a roadside trader and passed them to Jamie.
Accepting the foodstuff, the man shook his head while replying.
"Nahh.
Don’t forget that the guy devoured his kids and they came out in reverse. Hades is the oldest one while Zeus is the youngest."
"Is that so? Well, that family was strange as heck."
"I know right? How do two Titans fuck and have gods as kids?"
"Tone it down, Jay."
Miranda slapped her hand over the Hybrid’s mouth to prevent him from corrupting the little children who ran past them not long after he spoke.
One of them ran up to his mother and started asking if ’fuck’ was what she and his dad did to have him as a kid.
The instant she saw this, Miranda flicked her fingers and erased both the word and the memory of asking about it from both the Mother and son’s heads.
"You should have left them; I was curious about her reaction."
Miranda barely resisted the urge to smack Jamie in the back of the head with the lettuce she had just bought when she heard his words.
"Can you go back to what you were talking about? Hades’s Son?"
"Oh yeah, that guy.
The boy’s the one who taught me that ’Gravitational Singularity of Destruction’ technique I used on Pirate."
"Pirantu."
"Same difference."
The woman didn’t even bother trying to correct Jamie again, instead, diverting her focus to selecting the best tomatoes amongst the bunch of baskets she could see in front of her.
"I was surprised to find out that Hades wasn’t included amongst the Main Entities of Olympus despite how strong he is.
And then considering how vital his Domain—the Underworld—is to the Universe, the strength and benefits he receives when combatting in that Domain or in areas he ’declares’ as his domain would be off the charts."
Jamie shook his head with disappointment, but when he thought about the fact that Hades himself wasn’t too bothered, he shrugged and continued talking.
"So even that youngster Terrion who’s on the moon is a member of the Universe’s Pantheon too, huh?"
"Of course, he is. If he wasn’t part, then he would not be a ’Human King’ but a random Human in that realm."
Taking into account the fact that Terrion’s home world possessed the most Ruindeum reserves in the entire Vela Galaxy, it was no surprise that the Pantheon extended an invitation to him.
But on the matter of the Members of the pantheon, this was one of the reasons why Estea was so feared across the universe.
It was why Zotov’s allies for tens of thousands of years, abandoned them once it was revealed that their invader was Estean.
"The ’Main Entities’ of the Universe, beings responsible for managing vital aspects of the Universe.
Creation, Space, Gravity, Destruction, Elements and so on."
"Why are you suddenly mentioning those guys? They aren’t Race Kings like Terrion, they’re in the realms above."
Jamie offered no reply to Miranda’s question, instead, leaning forward and pointing at the best batch of carrots hidden under a few ’average’ looking ones.
"Oh! Those would go nice with the stew."
If it wasn’t obvious by now, Miranda and Jamie were shopping for their dinner, ignoring the aftermath of the Bliteon attack and leaving the Liberation Front to handle everything prompted by the actions of Ikerth’s General and Lieutenants.
Miranda did send her forces to assist the Liberation Front, so things were a lot easier for Dornik than usual, something the man was very grateful for.
"Has the average strength of the main entities increased recently?"
"Yeah...Richard and I helped them quite a bit."
Even as she replied to Jamie’s inquiry, 90% of Miranda’s focus was still on the onions she was selecting.
"White Onions, Yellow ones or Pearls?"
"White all the way."
With Jamie’s input, she tossed the white onions into her bag and then paid the seller, before moving on to the next stall.
"This set of Main Entities were in the Realm just above Race Kings for quite a while; until Richard came up to me and asked me to help him out with increasing their strengths. I was bored thanks to a certain someone who left me alone and desiccated himself so I agreed."
Clearly, Miranda was still displeased about Jamie’s actions, and the man only chuckled and patted her head while they walked together.
As for the realm the Main Entities she was talking about were in, it had a title that was awarded to beings on that level.
The same one Terrion had addressed Seren with earlier.
’Your Majesty.’
Miranda’s ’Twilight Empress’ title was also one she gained when she was at that level some ’too long to count’ years ago.
"Just like Olympus, we also happen to have 12 Main Entities in our Universe."
"That’s just a coincidence."
"It is, but half of them being Estean is certainly no coincidence."
Their Universe—Zanerth—had six out of its twelve Main Entities originating from the Vela Galaxy’s planet Estea while the other six were from different Galaxies across the universe.
Looking at this ratio, it made sense why Esteans were so feared, and why the Universe itself was trying to give them a ’threat’ in the form of the Gates Jamie saw on Estea.
But this didn’t mean that Estea only had six beings on that level of power; there were many more.
It’s just that these others could not become Main Entities. They could not take up the ’Authority’ and ’Privileges’ that came with the position because the Universe itself would not allow it.
The laws that Zanerth was hardwired with at its Big Bang prevented more than half of its Main Entities from originating from the same Celestial Body.
It would break the balance too much.
"Well, that’s one of the reasons why they are so scared shit of us."
"Another one of those reasons is the man who’s currently roasting the wings of an unfortunate dragon right in front of me."
Miranda described Jamie’s current actions while she sorted out the foodstuff she bought and put them into the fridge.
"It’s not just me, there’s you guys too."
"You’re a separate problem entirely, Jay."
She replied without even turning back to see what spectacle Jamie was creating behind her, silently regretting not stopping him when he suddenly went and bought a Large Family-sized barbecue grill when they were coming out from the market.
"Just so you know, I’d have still gotten it even if you tried to stop me."
The man replied as if reading her thoughts, his voice ringing out right beside her ears. When she turned around, she was met with the man’s impish grin as he reached into the cupboard behind her and picked out the pepper and salt cans before warping back to the grill and sprinkling them over the dragon wings.
This sight made Miranda genuinely pity the poor dragon whose wings were being roasted on Azure flames; Ikerth’s Lieutenant Brambus.
Shaking her head in silence, she returned her attention to the sink in front of her and began working on their actual dinner, and not whatever ’abomination’ Jamie was creating behind her.
The woman skillfully manoeuvred through the kitchen, the clinking of utensils and rhythmic chopping sounds accompanying her culinary ballet.
It didn’t take long for the fragrant aroma of spices and sizzling ingredients to fill the air as she prepared their dinner, a contrast to the spectacle Jamie was orchestrating with the dragon wings.
Midway, Miranda couldn’t help but glance over her shoulder at Jamie’s antics. His impish grin and the azure flames dancing around the barbecue grill created a chaotic yet oddly entertaining scene.
’He really never changes...’
It brought a smile to her face to see that Jamie was the same as always, but after a few moments, she began thinking if that was really okay.
’Jamie purposely maintains his ’younger and more playful’ mindset as a defensive feature for his mind, for the off chance that the Immortality finally drives him insane...’
"Mira, I don’t know what it is you’re cooking but it looks like it’s about to burn."
"Huh?! Ah!"
The woman quickly snapped out of her thoughts and lifted the frying pan off the fire, before inspecting the stir-fries to be sure they hadn’t burnt.
"Safe..."
"What’s up? You usually don’t zone out while cooking."
’Except when you’re on my mind.’
Miranda kept that reply to herself and told Jamie to set the plates down before beginning to bring over the food.
Soon, the dinner table was set with an array of dishes, from savoury stir-fries to fresh salads, the spread was a testament to her culinary prowess honed over hundreds of thousands of years.
It was a beautiful sight, till Jamie tossed some roasted dragon wings in the middle of it all.
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
Miranda just sighed and tossed her apron into the washer before sitting at the table and ignoring Jamie’s addition to their dinner, the warm glow of the kitchen lights cast a cosy ambience
