Chapter 124: Contract Marriage.

"Why did you bring him here?"

"Like he said, he suddenly arrived at home and said he wanted to see his daughter as soon as possible. I suggested calling her over but he refused and said it was a surprise for her. Don’t worry about it, we came alone and drove ourselves," Chris replied Ethan. He could guess the personality dominating Ethan right now was the cruel one.

"Since the person you accompanied here has left, then why are you still here?"

Chris looked in the direction of the door where Ruthlyn and Enoch were standing, throwing them a meaningful look.

"We will be outside, if you need us."

After the door had closed after the two of them, he turned to face Ethan.

"What was that about? The way you two were dressed when we arrived," he asked.

"None of your business," Ethan deadpanned.

"None of my business?! Ethan, you do remember that this is a contract marriage which main clause is for you not to touch her, right? You have been doing well until now so I will take it that you will continue like that."

Ethan tilted his head as if he was confused.

"Contract marriage? Isn’t that supposed to be used to refer to marriages where both man and woman get married for both of their benefits? Why is it that the only semblance to a contract marriage in I and Shikera’s marriage is the time limit we got?"

"Ethan, that is definitely not the only semblance there. You take care of Miss Anderson, cook for her, watch over her and all. In short, her life is in your hands!" Chris argued.

"Let’s say I do accept that, then what do we gain? Shikera gains everything on behalf of her father so what about me? What do you gain or what do I gain from this marriage?"

"We talked about this before and I told you I am helping a friend. It’s not like I would not be getting anything but then, it is too trivial of a thing for you to bother yourself about. I stayed behind just to remind you that the contract will be ending in 8 months, so hang in until then."

As he was done talking, Chris stood up and walked out of the house. Ethan, watching as the older man left, dialled Raymond’s number immediately.

"I am very sure he signed a contract whereby his gains would be surplus. And Chairman Anderson also looks like he has a good leverage over us if we dare to breach the contract. Did you find anything out of the ordinary?"

"No Sir. The private hospital was heavily guarded, and I am sure it is not because Liam Anderson is here. Do you want me to find out who it is?"

"Don’t bother about that. King Reynolds left the country a few days ago so it might be him. When will you be back?" Ethan asked.

"Today. I was just about to switch off my phone when you called."

"Call me when you arrive." And he hung up on the call.

"Good job, Kera. It’s time to start being yourself and not your father’s princess. You have feelings too, and it will do you no good to keep restraining them."

Shikera looked up at her brother, frowning in confusion. What was he even saying? He was seeing her pouring wine which was dangerous to her health and he could not even stop her, yet he was telling her not to restrain her feelings.

"Wait a minute, Noah. Are you not supposed to be stopping me from drinking this? By chance...do you want me to die early so you can get my inheritance?!" She asked, her eyes widened in mock horror.

Noah nodded, looking around the bar they were in. Since it was daytime, the bar had less customers so Noah was able to come hear Shikera loud and clear.

"If that’s what you think," he replied, not fazed by Shikera’s wide eyed expression.

Glaring at him, Shikera stood up with the half filled wine glass and the bottle, carrying them to the bartender stand.

"You can take this. I was not able to drink any," she said to the bartender, passing her card over to him to pay for the wine.

After her card was returned, she walked back to the table and sat down with Noah.

"I’m sorry but I won’t let that wish come true!"

Surprisingly, Noah laughed out loud.

"That’s what I meant. If you knew it would harm you and still wanted to take it, then i will support you all the way. You are wise enough not to take the wine when you know what would happen later on, yet you chose to be with Ethan even when you know the result. It just shows how you view the wine as a temporary source of happiness, but not Ethan, and how prepared you are to face whatever consequences your relationship with him would cause."

"It’s alright, relationship counsellor! Aren’t you even busy? Sticking around your grown up sister for a whole day," Shikera teased him, trying not to get emotional because of his words.

"Of course, I am on my way to get my girls. After the cold treatment you and your husband gave me today, it would take centuries before you see me in that house," he joked, standing up to leave the table.

Shikera smiled, blowing a kiss at him before saying, "Don’t worry about me, Noah. No matter what happens, you will always be the first to know."

Cyprian stepped out of the car immediately it stopped moving, slamming the door after herself as she walked to the trunk.

She retrieved her bag and turning to Raymond who just hurried out of the car, she said, "Your card is there on the dashboard. Good night."

She walked away towards the entrance of her apartment building, pulling her bag with her while Raymond watched her from where he was standing.

He raked his hand through his brown hair, showing how confused he was at her attitude. This was how cold she had been since that day when she texted him she was leaving, and it was a miracle that her teammates had been able to stop her from leaving early.

After waiting until she was inside the elevator, he entered the car and ignited the engine, ready to get home as fast as he could. There was an urgent message he needed to deliver to Ethan.
