The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife - Chapter 125: Promotion
"I am back!"
Team leader Zuresh jolted on her seat, startled by the sudden loud voice in the room. Turning, she saw Shikera approaching with a wide smile on her face and her eyes softened a little, only to harden the very next moment.
"What are you doing, Anderson? Coming in 20 minutes past the expected time and you are still so cheerful?!" she yelled, and Shikera halted in her steps.
Staring at the older woman’s angry face, Shikera wondered how she managed to give birth to a calm daughter like Rita. Staying with the girl for two weeks and hearing how she glorified her mother had made Shikera forget how monstrous the woman really was. For now, she had to get an excuse.
"I’m sorry, Ma’am! I was ambushed by the reporters from Lake TV who wanted to trick me into giving them an hint of our exclusive. When I escaped from them, that was when I remembered I actually forgot—"
"Shut it, Shikera! You want to start playing me with the stupid excuses you and Leigh have specialty in making? Thank God I am finally going to be getting rid of one of you today," Team leader Zuresh smiled, the room falling silently immediately as they all turned to stare at her. Who would be getting fired?
The door opened just then and the whole team looked in its direction, as they had not been expecting any visitor, staring as a man walked in. He was someone they had never seen in this place, and they knew he wasn’t working in any of the departments in this building.
The others could only wait until their team leader introduced him while Cyprian’s eyes widened in recognition. It was Max, the delivery guy who had helped her with getting that excellent headline that earned her and Shikera the fame they had in the financial department.
"Maxwell, this is Shikera Anderson and she will be joining your group soon. And Shikera, Maxwell is a producer from Preston Shows who will be handling you from now on. You still have to come here once in a while, but for now you have to go with Max for briefing," Team leader Zuresh introduced them, expecting them to greet each other warmly but Shikera simply stood there dumfounded.
"Anderson?"
"Yes Ma’am!"
"Don’t tell me you were not aware that you would soon be promoted. And now, you just need to collect the letter yet you still stand there like that. Maxwell, escort her out with her stupidity please."
Silently giving Shikera thumb ups, her teammates apart from Cyprian who was still shocked, tried to congratulate her. Cyprian whose mind had not even been on what her team leader was saying since she saw Maxwell, stared on dumbly. How could she be okay when she just saw the person she had ranted to about her team leader, and now, it also seemed like he was close to their team leader. Why did he not say anything then?!
However on Maxwell’s part, he averted his gaze from the woman who has made him accept the job in this place, and faced Shikera.
"Shall we, Miss Anderson?" he asked, gesturing towards the door.
Shikera nodded and turning briefly to wave at Cyprian, she followed him out.
Preston TV had two different buildings and Shikera was good to be leaving one to work in another. Since where she was going was going to involve more of tv appearances, they had several make up artists, conference rooms, studios and lastly, beautiful women and handsome men too.
Maxwell led her straight to the seventh floor, where his own office and group conference room was located. Shikera would also be sharing the same space as well, although she would not be required to spend all her time at work as she would have to make researches too.
"And here we are, Miss Anderson. What do you think about your new workspace?" Maxwell asked, swinging the glass door open and holding it until Shikera entered the room.
"It’s very nice!"
"I am relieved that you think so. Anyways, let’s get down to business. Take your seat," he smiled, sitting down on the chair at the end of the table. Shikera took her seat three chairs away from him and faced him with utmost seriousness on her face.
"Okay. On a very normal day, you are supposed to undergo a little bit of training before getting this opportunity, but I decided that you would not need it after watching some of your presentations. You are more that qualified for it," Maxwell began, a wide smile on his face.
"What opportunity?"
"We decided to make you an anchor, of a show which you will have to choose by yourself. It has to be something new or unprecedented, which the other stations haven’t started and also, if you can possibly target something that will interest both the old and the young and not a particular age bracket." He paused, waiting for a reaction from Shikera but she was silent, staring at him with eyes wide open.
Shikera felt like today was her day of surprises as she found herself speechless of words to say. She was going to anchor her own shows?! Though this was the reason she became a reporter, she had not expected to get her wish as early as this. She had thought she would have to work her ass hard to get this kind of opportunity but now, it had been presented to her!
"Can I," she asked, finally getting rid of her speechlessness. "Can I start thinking about it now? When can I start? And do I have to get the guests on the show by myself or what?" She asked all three questions impatiently, failing to notice the smile that crossed Maxwell’s face.
"Calm down, Miss Anderson. You have a week to think about it and also, you are given the privilege to name it anything you want. When you are ready, you can come to the office and then we sign the job contract..." he trailed off, seeing the way Shikera abruptly stood up.
"Is anything wrong, Miss Anderson?"
"No. You said I have a week, right? I will be on my way now so as not to waste any time. Bye!" She replied him, running out the door as soon as she was done.
Still on his seat, Maxwell inwardly thanked his stars for granting him an anchor that didn’t seem lazy at least. The only thing he could hope for now, was that the rest of the team members assigned to him were not as problematic.
