Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 346: Already Done ()
"You..." Jian hissed darkly, taking a step closer to Neveah.
The intensity of the rage reflected in those mismatched orbs had Neveah shocked to silence.
Neveah had expected King Jian would be displeased, but this was far beyond displeasure, it was full blown rage.
From the slight strain on his face, it looked to Neveah as though he was barely restraining himself from lunging at her.
Neveah was not certain exactly what angered King Jian so but even Neveah’s wolf curled back within her mind in perfect tandem with Neveah’s wince.
’His predator is right on the surface Veah, be cautious.’ Neveah’s wolf warned.
Neveah did not truly need the warning, she had already taken notice of the dim glow in King Jian’s eyes.
"I... I shouldn’t be here..." Neveah admitted.
It seemed Neveah was saying this particular phrase much too often in recent times.
Neveah subtly pressed on her broken rib, in hopes that the pain would be just enough to make her black out and escape this face-off,
But Neveah was disappointed to discover her rib was already mostly healed.
"How are you here, Neveah?" Jian demanded in a chilling, cold tone.
Neveah thought about it, what answer could she give to this question? It was a question she had already expected but Neveah knew if she said the truth, it was possible it would only make things worse.
How did she begin to explain to King Jian that the beloved daughter of his most trusted aide had attacked her right in academy premises and delivered her to dwarfs?
How did she make such claims with no proof but her word, when she herself could not even believe what Davina had done?
Somewhere deep within, Neveah wanted to believe it was some sort of misunderstanding.
Neveah hoped Davina would have a reasonable explanation for causing harm to her which did not benefit Davina in any way.
Neveah did not wish to put Davina on the chopping block before getting the chance to understand Davina’s motives for herself.
And what was the assurance that anyone would take Neveah’s word over Davina’s?
When it all came down to it, the dragon lords had watched Davina grow up whereas Neveah just showed up out of nowhere some months back.
And along the line, Neveah had garnered much demerits already, she would not pit herself against Davina.
There was Menarx’s backing of course, but Neveah just did not wish to put him in that position...he was already facing enough heat for choosing to bond with Neveah.
Neveah just wanted to ask Davina herself...why? For what purpose? To what end?
The answers to these questions would not make Neveah feel any better or forgive the wrong that had been done her, but neither would stirring trouble from this.
"I do not wish to speak about it." Neveah replied, forcing away her apprehension.
Neveah was always one to face her troubles head on and with her own methods, she would do the same this time.
Tip-toeing around the Dragon King to cuddle his wrath just was not Neveah’s style.
"Omega...you test me..." King Jian warned darkly.
Neveah frowned slightly, King Jian had long figured out that she found that name of hers offensive and it had been quite a while since he had used it on her.
Using it in this instance was a testament of just how great his wrath was.
"What are you going to do about it then? Put me in chains again? Parade me around to be scorned by your people?" Neveah replied with a scoff.
"You already did that, Your Grace." Neveah added.
Neveah knew this was not exactly the best time to provoke King Jian, but it was either this or she would have to explain what had happened...as much as she knew at least.
"This is how it is going to be then? Very well." King Jian said, his tone now eerily calm.
His gaze lingered on Neveah for just a moment longer before he turned and stormed away.
Neveah stared after the Dragon King for a moment, a quiet sigh escaping her as he disappeared behind the trees.
For a moment, she was not certain what she was to do next, she could only stare ahead, already regretting her words.
"Blacking out would have been the best option." Neveah murmured to herself.
A yelp of surprise escaped Neveah when a figure stepped out from behind the trees, Neveah had not expected they had company all along.
"Lord Kaideon..." Neveah murmured in a tone of uncertainty.
Lord Kaideon had always been one of the few Dragon Lords that held no contempt for Neveah and Neveah had truly appreciated him... even though they hardly crossed parts.
Neveah knew well enough that the Dune Lord was absolutely and fiercely loyal to the Dragon King, she was not certain he would still take kindly to her after witnessing their exchange.
"You saw that...you must think me a hassle." Neveah asked.
Lord Kaideon shrugged casually, his actions indicating that what had just happened had nothing to do with him.
"I do have my reasons, for being here... I just do not believe it right to speak of at this moment." Neveah murmured, she was not certain why she even bothered explaining her actions to Lord Kaideon.
However, Neveah just felt the need to...there was just something about the Dune Lord that seemed worth trusting.
Lord Kaideon watched Neveah for a moment in silence, somehow, Neveah understood what words he would have said if he did speak.
"I know I am stirring trouble at the wrong time for everyone."
"I also know I tend to complicate things... especially for my ownself but I do know it would still be complicated without my help."
"I will accept whatever consequences come with my choices, it is my own responsibility." Neveah said quietly.
Lord Kaideon nodded in understanding and gestured for Neveah to follow him.
"Thank you, I do not imagine His Grace recalled in his rage that I do not know the way to the camp... wouldn’t be right to lose my way and escape my judgement." Neveah said with a sigh.
Lord Kaideon’s lips twitched slightly as he lead the way out of the forest.
