Chapter 343: Just One Thing Right (Ch.343)

A quiet chuckle escaped Celeste as the memory faded off, it had been so many centuries already yet somehow, Celeste still remembered each of those memories all too clearly.

Memories of when she had first touched the darkness, of the intoxicating power that came with it and the great cause she had believed herself to be a part of.

A cause that Celeste had willing to go to any lengths and make any sacrifices for, even tainting her ownself with dark magic.

Just like that, the darkness had seeped in, overtaking all the light Celeste had once known till she could no longer set herself apart from it.

But in all that had passed, it was not the darkness Celeste loathed but her own gullible trust and blind loyalty.

Celeste’s greatest regret was nothing else but the fairy on the tapestry, portrayed in all the glory that Celeste had once believed and trusted in... until she realized just how wrong she was.

"The past is gone..." Celeste murmured quietly, reminding herself to stay focused on the present.

These past experiences had at least taught her that family was of no consequence, clans and races didn’t truly matter.

What mattered was the one who sat on the throne and held the power to move the world.

"Because power overshadows guilt, and the strong can do no wrong." Celeste murmured the words she had held close to her heart all these centuries.

"Do you think me beautiful?" Celeste asked the fairy on the tapestry, though she knew this time she would not get a response.

Even so, Celeste twirled around, unfurling her obsidian wings so they were on full display in all their darkness.

There was a melancholic smile on Celeste’s lips as she came to a stop, her gaze returning to the tapestry.

"You are still just as beautiful as you always were... and the world will always remember you so, knowing nothing."

"But I? I will spurned for all eternity, even in death. Yet do we both not know it? Who truly was the darkness? The curse on our kind?" Celeste asked.

"You were right about just one thing, we sisters were always meant to rule the world... My High Queen." Celeste finished as she turned away from the tapestry.

Celeste’s eyes fluttered closed as she began a quiet chant in a lilting, ethereal language.

And in response to her voice, the air grew charged with magical energy... shadows dancing along the walls with greater fervor.

Soft whispers seemed to echo through the hall, as if the very walls themselves were responding to her incantations.

Celeste’s chants grew faster and her voice grew louder and even more shadows seeped into the hall from every opening available.

The shadows seemed to gather around her, swirling and intertwining like ethereal spirits, as she tapped into the power that lay within the dark forces of the world.

Celeste’s magic was strong, stronger than any of her kind and years of practicing the dark arts had made it even stronger.

Yet Celeste craved even more and with each day that passed, she grew more restless.

The dark core of magic within her demanded it’s daily feed, and Celeste was more than willing to provide it.

While the realm reveled in this illusion of a peaceful and flourishing dynasty, Celeste grew her strength.

With a flick of her wrist, all the shadows swarming around her surged upwards, encircling around her hand to form a thick mass.

The mass of shadows hovered before her, growing increasingly larger with the passing of time as even more shadows joined the meld.

Celeste’s eyes locked onto the mass of shadows, her gaze filled with focus and intent.

She moved her hands in intricate patterns, her chanting growing even faster as she manipulated the dark magical energy, weaving an invisible tapestry of spells and enchantments.

As Celeste worked her magic, the effect of her incantations on her surroundings grew more potent.

Those eerie whispers echoing through the hall turned into a melodic chant, rising and falling in rhythm with Celeste’s movements.

A surge of power coursed through the hall, crackling in the air like static electricity.

With each gesture, the magical energy pulsing around Celeste grew in intensity, illuminating the hall in a dim glow.

Celeste’s wings unfurled, their obsidian membranes shimmering with an otherworldly radiance.

She rose from the ground, hovering a few inches above the cold stone floor.

Her voice, infused with raw power, reverberated through the hall, vibrating with a captivating blend of beauty and death.

Suddenly, a burst of energy erupted from Celeste’s outstretched hand.

The mass of shadows surged forward, colliding into a stone statue on the other end of the hall.

No sounds of collision could be heard, all that was seen were the shadows engulfing the statue.

An eerie hissing sound echoed across the hall and as the shadows drifted apart, the statue of a kobold beast came to life.

The beast released a loud roar and the hall trembled with the surge of magic, its ancient stones groaning under the strain.

With a final flourish, Celeste brought her hands together in a clap, dispersing the residual energy that had filled the hall.

The glow faded, leaving the chamber in darkness once more, and those two torches that had died out lit up again of their own accord.

With a satisfied smile, Celeste gently descended to the ground, her wings folding neatly behind her.

Celeste slowly walked over to the agitated beast, examining it slowly as she walked around it.

No one had the slightest idea of what Celeste did down here in her dark halls... perhaps if they had, they would not be so quick to underestimate her.

"After almost a century of trying, I have slowly begun to grasp Azkar’s spell of beast summoning..." Celeste murmured to herself, a sly smirk on her lips.

Azkar would never know what hit him, by the time Azkar realized what Celeste had been up to, it would be far too late.

But the smile on Celeste’s face quickly fell away as the kobold beast collapsed back into dust right before her eyes.

Celeste’s eyes flared in rage and just as she was about to let out a scream of frustration, she sensed a change in the air and knew she did not have the luxury to rage at the moment.

Something elsewhere was going wrong...

"The troll golem has been discovered!" Celeste hissed, summoning a portal in a haste.
