Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 342: Of Obsidian Wings ()
There were days when things would just align in ones favor at exactly the right time, and for the dragon king and the second squadron, it had been one of such days.
The very moment the troll golem awakened, the loud shriek echoed to the very edge of the forest, as did the waves of dark magic that spread far beyond.
And it was right at the moment Jian was restructuring the perimeter of defence.
Jian sensed it first, before the other dragon lords with him, but not long after, they were all fully aware that their enemy who had been lurking in the dark had surfaced.
No words needed to be said, the battle they had come for was now in sight.
Whatever had triggered the beast to reveal itself had happened at exactly the right moment.
"Mauldray has a location, the tracking team is already marking it down." Cassian reported to Jian.
Jian glanced over at Kaideon who nodded his head immediately and dashed off, launching himself into the sky where he transformed and shot into the forest.
Rodvan and Cassian were not far behind, manoeuvring through different routes to approach the beast from all sides.
"Nothing gets past here alive." Jian made clear and then took flight into the forest.
The dragon lords of the second squadron would hold the perimeter of defence.
But one could only hope the troll golem would not have the opportunity to get that far before it was taken down.

The dark hall was shrouded in an eerie stillness, its atmosphere thick with a dark, chilling cold aura.
Shadows danced along the cold stone walls, walls adorned with ancient tapestries on which intricate runes and mystic symbols were embroidered.
In the wide hall, there was just two dimly lit torches lining the corridor,
Their flames flickered weakly, looking to be just a moment away from dying out and soon, they did, casting the hall even further into darkness.
In the middle of the hall, Celeste stood, her elegant black dress splayed out around her.
There was a complicated expression on the face of the dark fairy and her gaze moved over the exquisitely made tapestries, lingering on each rune for a moment before moving on to the next.
And then her gaze settled on one of the tapestries, this time lingering there for an especially extended amount of time.
Embroidered on this tapestry was not a rune, but the likeness of a person...a fairy.
Though the features of the fairy could not be deciphered, it could be seen that the fairy was a woman and bore a semblance to Celeste herself in form and aura.
The fairy embroidered on the tapestry was slender and graceful, her wings folded neatly against her back.
Her long, flowing ebony hair cascaded down her shoulders, framing a face that bore an ethereal beauty tinged with a touch of mystery.
Her eyes, a mesmerizing shade of green, glimmered with a potent mix of determination and wisdom.
In the hand of the fairy was an antique object, a staff made of a strange kind of metal.
On the staff, there were dozens of engravings but it could not be deciphered from the embroidery alone.
To show this much semblance to whoever this fairy had been told that this embroidery was already a masterpiece.
While the engravings could not be made out, the exquisite appearance of the staff was hard to miss.
The staff was short in length, only about the length of an arm, and the fairy embroidered on the tapestry held the staff adjacent to her own arm.
Crystals of various shapes and sizes adorned the length of the staff, and a small crystal ball sat at it’s base.
In some unique way, the crystals had been embroidered in a manner that showed just how excellently they captured and reflected light.
Or perhaps what they reflected was not light at all, but a shimmering magical glow channelled from the fairy herself.
In her other hand was an ancient tome, it looked just like any other old book, worn with time and usage but the fact that it was clasped tightly in the hands of this fairy showed it was much more than that.
There was one final adornment that could not be missed and it was the small crown that sat daintily on the head of the fairy on the tapestry.
It enhanced the already imposing aura portrayed on the tapestry, making it certain without a doubt that this fairy on the tapestry was no ordinary figure but one of power and status.
And though in most things, the fairy on the tapestry bore a semblance to Celeste herself, there was one distinct difference.
In the place of the glowing spectral wings, seemingly formed from magical energy that were neatly folded at the back of the fairy on the tapestry,
Celeste’s own wings were obsidian, reflecting the touch of darkness.
Between the two fairies, one was the embodiment of light and the other was marked by darkness.
Staring at the tapestry in the shadows of darkness as she always would, Celeste was once again struck by those dark memories of the past.
Memories of despair and betrayal.
Of the fickleness of blood ties, of clans turning on their own and of misplaced loyalty and faith... and the result of it all that was Celeste’s own life.

"Do you think me beautiful?" A young Celeste asked, her wings fluttering behind her as she hovered over a small lake, watching her own reflection.
Before this time, those wings of hers had glowed as bright as any other, but now, the obsidian strands had begun to mar that light, as it had the rest of the clans who had obeyed the queen’s orders to practice the dark arts.
"Your kind will form a new order of warriors Celeste, powerful enough to overthrow the dark sorcerers..." The other fairy sitting at the shore began.
"You are the most beautiful there has been my dearest of obsidian wings. I am to be crowned High Queen and your place is at my side...my guardian and most trusted."
"We sisters were always meant to rule the world together." She finished a smile adorning her lips.
Celeste returned the smile, a childlike glow in her eyes, gleaming even through the strands of obsidian that now marred her orbs.
