Chapter 331: A Bargain (Ch.331)

"We meet again, little wolf." These were the first words Neveah heard after unending hours in the darkness, interrupting the silence that had rested over the dungeon since she had regained consciousness.

’Here they come.’ Neveah thought to herself, she had known if she just waited, someone would eventually come and make whatever demand it was they had of her.

Now, Neveah did not know of anything she could be of use for to whoever Davina had left her to, but at the least getting to understand why she was here was the first step in clearing her confusion.

It was only that this voice... Neveah was certain she had heard it before.

Neveah slowly lifted her head to find the silhouette of a black clothed man in the shadows of the dungeon, her gaze move upwards, settling on his face and the moment she set eyes on that black face mask, she recognised who it was.

The dark sorcerer from the forest, he was the one who had summoned the gigantic kobolds on Neveah and Menarx.

Neveah’s eyes narrowed slightly as she recalled the encounter with this sorcerer.

Rage surged within Neveah at the realization that she had somehow ended up in the hands of the black network.

’The dragon king had been concerned, that the black network had spread roots deep into the citadel and even the keep... could this be what he meant? Could Davina be one of them?’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

’Lord Rodrick is King Jian’s most trusted aide...it could not possibly be...’ Neveah thought back, trailing off since there was no certain answer to her wolf’s question.

"She remembers me... I am flattered." The dark sorcerer said in a tone that showed obvious amusement.

"I have no business with the black network, but you on the other hand... how could I forget? You still owe me your life..." Neveah hissed lowly as she rose up to her feet, her countenance shifting as her wolf rose to the surface.

The dark sorcerer tilted his head to the side, a quiet chuckle escaping him as he leaned in closer to the cell.

"Our fates must be entwined... I find you everywhere I turn." The response given by the dark sorcerer was far off from what Neveah expected and her frown deepened.

"Fate? I do not believe in that." Neveah spat coldly.

"Oh? Why is that?" The dark sorcerer asked with interest.

"What do you want from me?" Neveah demanded instead, ignoring the question.

"You can begin by telling me how you ended up here." The dark sorcerer offered as he leaned against a pillar in a relaxed manner.

Neveah chuckled at the dark sorcerer’s attempt to play ignorant.

She did not have the patience to engage in a casual conversation and so she said nothing more, Neveah simply stood, glaring at the dark sorcerer.

"I see...you believe I am the culprit." The dark sorcerer murmured in realization.

"You wrong me, little wolf. I had no hand in bringing you here... though I must admit it is quite a pleasure to set eyes on you again." The dark sorcerer absolved himself of all guilt.

"Am I to believe that?" Neveah scoffed.

"What can I do to convince you then? That this is not my doing?" The dark sorcerer asked in a surprisingly serious tone.

Neveah was momentarily at a loss but she lifted her chained hands up.

"Need I state the obvious? Let me out." Neveah deadpanned.

"Okay." The dark sorcerer replied easily.

"Okay?" Neveah asked again to be certain that she did not hear wrong.

"Okay." The dark sorcerer repeated, waving a hand and the cuffs around Neveah’s wrist fell off, clattering to the ground in pieces.

Neveah rubbed her sore wrists, hissing at the searing pain from the burnt red patches all around her wrist.

"I can let you out...but can you get out of here all on your own?" The dark sorcerer asked.

Neveah glanced around for a moment.

"Where is...here?" Neveah asked uncertainly.

"The inner citadel of the dwarven empire." The dark sorcerer replied with a shrug.

Neveah’s eyes widened slightly.

"I’m in dwarf territory?" Neveah murmured in astonishment.

"The very heart of it and need I tell you why you are here?" The dark sorcerer asked.

"Menarx is headed here... I am to be used to withstand him." Neveah realized.

"A well thought out plan, I must say. You see dragons are too easily attached and even more weakened by these attachments." The dark sorcerer added.

A low growl rumbled out of Neveah.

"Do you believe I would make that easy for you... without the silver, how do you plan to restrain me?" Neveah asked, her hands curling up into tight fists.

"Me? I do not wish you restrained little wolf... I do not mind a little bite." The dark sorcerer replied, grinning.

"What is that to mean?" Neveah asked suspiciously.

The dark sorcerer gave no response, placing a hand on the bar of the cell door, the cell door swung open with no resistance whatsoever.

The dark sorcerer strode over to the entrance of the cell and Neveah retreated back warily.

The dark sorcerer watched Neveah’s movements in silence, he did not advance and remained in place, offering a hand to Neveah.

"By yourself, you cannot leave. But with me...no one dares stop you." The dark sorcerer said confidently.

’We need to get out of here... Menarx might be harmed because of us.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

’Yet, nothing is freely given.’ Neveah completed the words she knew her wolf left unsaid.

"What would it cost me to take that hand?" Neveah asked to be sure.

"You would owe me a debt of life." The dark sorcerer stated blankly.

Neveah retreated further into the cell, her gaze narrowed.

"I shall make you a bargain...if you do not wish to repay this debt, then when I ask it of you, you must kill me." The dark sorcerer offered.

"Take my hand then...if you dare." He finished and awaited Neveah’s decision.
