Chapter 330: The Word To Fate 2 (Ch.330)

Azkar frowned slightly, though it was not so visible since his features were obscured by his black face mask, as always.

He was seated in the central cavern of the dwarf king’s abode, having finally complied with the dwarf king’s summons at his own convenience as Azkar had already said.

There was a goblet held in Azkar’s left hand and he swirled the contents of the goblet in his hands as he spaced out on the unending rant of the dwarf king.

War was coming, the dwarves knew it and Azkar knew it too. It was all Celeste’s fault yet Azkar was the one who had to deal with the backlash.

The encounter of the troll golem with the Lord of Ruby scales had brought the adamantium ore to light again, and it was now obvious to the dragons that the dwarves still mined the dragon killing ore.

It had taken Azkar great efforts to keep this concealed for the dwarf king in honor of their alliance, but in the end, someone on his side had complicated things.

Azkar was not all that bothered by it, the dwarves had signed up for a war the very moment they began mining adamantium in secret.

Azkar had no part in convincing them, the vindictive dwarf king had done that all on his own.

Azkar only reaped the benefits of it as the adamantium ore was indeed a treasure all who stood against the dragons would covet.

Azkar was only displeased that at the end of it all, Celeste still failed to take down the Lord of Ruby scales.

Azkar tuned back in to the words of the dwarf king just when the stout monarch laid out his plans for battle and subtly extended hints as to where Azkar would come in.

Azkar knew what this was, the world detested him for the dark magic he wielded yet in their desperate times, they would all turn to him for the one power they knew could bring them their desires.

The fae tribes had been no different, neither was the dwarf king and this was precisely why Azkar would always have an edge, so long as the greed in the heart of men remained.

Azkar breathed an annoyed sigh, there were many other things he would rather have done with his time at this moment than communing with the dwarf king and just as Azkar reached the limit of his patience, he heard words that piqued his interest.

"So...you mean to say you have a plan to withstand the dragons if they do find the inner citadel?" Azkar asked, finally interested in the conversation.

"Tis true!" The dwarf king bellowed in his deep, scratchy voice.

His tone was much too loud for an indoor and confidential conversation but then again, Azkar knew this was one of the more quieter moments of the dwarf king.

"We hold a hidden card...a hostage!" The dwarf king announced in confidence.

"A hostage? What identity might this hostage posses that would convince you of withstanding the dragons?" Azkar asked doubtfully.

"Tis a girl! A rider girl, bonded to the cruel ruby dragon! She be in my dungeons, chained down in silver!" The dwarf king announced proudly.

Azkar was quiet for a moment as the words sunk in.

"A girl bonded to Lord Menarx?" Azkar wondered with a frown.

Azkar usually did not concern himself with what trouble the dwarves stirred, but there was something about the words of the dwarf king that sounded terribly suspicious to Azkar.

"Silver chains... silver chains are of no use against the Asvarian blooded...or the Fae..." Azkar murmured aloud.

"She be neither Asvarian nor Fae, she be a wolf girl from the far lands over the sea!" The dwarf king revealed.

And then, it all clicked, everything made sense in that moment.

"Where did you say the girl was kept?" Azkar asked again, his tone low.

"The dungeons." The dwarf king replied.

Azkar was on his feet and striding out of the hall the next moment without sparing a single glance to the baffled dwarf king.

Azkar still knew his way down to the dungeons and so he navigated down the identical halls.

As Azkar walked, that feeling returned to the forefront of his mind once again. That tugging of his gut instinct, alerting him to the presence of a familiar aura.

Azkar had gotten this feeling repeatedly all day and for each time it creeped up on him, Azkar had shut it down, believing it to be his mind playing tricks.

Azkar could not believe it... that there was a possibility it was not a trick at all, but Azkar needed to see to make certain, he would not believe it otherwise.

Azkar walked briskly, ignoring the dwarf guards that guarded the entrance of the dungeon as he headed in, allowing his senses guide him all the way through the dungeons.

And Azkar’s senses did guide him until he set eyes on the subject behind that familiar aura, the one his mind recognised even before he could.

Azkar was still quite a distance away from the cell when he saw her and though she sat in the darkest corner of the cell, curled in on herself, her head rested on her knees... Azkar knew it was her without a doubt.

He knew it long before his head came to the knowledge his mind had repeatedly presented and it had nothing to do with the mess of golden tresses that still seemed to glow even in the darkness of the cell.

Azkar paused in his step and could only stare in astonishment, many thoughts ran through his mind all at the same time but Azkar failed to make sense of any.

And so Azkar chose to settle on the one thought that stood out amongst the rest.

"I know fate when I see it..." Azkar murmured to himself, a smirk settling on his lips as he covered the rest of the distance to the cell.
