Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 225: Nothing more, Nothing less ()
Neveah stood, watching as Menarx took his dragon form with the ease of mastery, his ruby red scales catching the rays of sunlight.
He stretched his wings out, grunting quietly as his large orbs moved to settle on Neveah.
For a moment, Neveah hesitated. Before this time, it could be said that riding Menarx was in a situation where they had no other options left.
That way, Neveah could still say it would mean nothing, but this time was different... this time, this would be her own choice.
This would mean complete and absolute acceptance of Menarx as her dragon.
Though at this time, it would mean nothing more...it would also mean nothing less.
’He is the best choice for us, Veah. We are in need of a bond to restrain my bloodthirst... Menarx is the one I trust the most.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded her.
Though Neveah and her wolf were one entity, they did not always have the same opinion and it was the same now.
While Neveah understood her wolf’s judgement and she did trust Menarx as much as her wolf did, he was not the one Neveah trusted the most...
’Yet the one you trust the most loves another, in the end...we will be the only ones hurt. In the end, we are always the ones hurt.’
’Do not allow your resolve falter, we cannot afford to give our heart wrongly or even at all.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded her.
Neveah pursed her lips, it was okay to her that Xenon’s heart belonged to another, she could still cope with that.
What she could not bear was the fact that all along, Neveah believed her presence could help his wild haze.
That believe had given Neveah a sense of purpose but she now realized it was not her at all... just who Neveah reminded Xenon off.
Which meant Neveah was of no help to Xenon,
’He mistook us to be another and it only worsened his wild haze. Just like what had happened, we will only confuse his mind and cause him more hurt.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded with a quiet sigh.
Neveah could not argue with her wolf, if so... if she would ultimately become the cause of pain, Neveah would much rather she had never met Xenon.
’You are right. I will think only of what is best for us... that is the best for him too.’ Neveah thought back to her wolf.
Menarx and Neveah had come to an understanding and Neveah knew for certain she could rely on Menarx... Neveah knew better than to hope for more.
This much was already enough... this much would have to do.
Neveah firmed her resolve and walked over to Menarx, taking off her gloves, she placed a hand on his upper limb.
As Neveah’s hand made contact with Menarx’s scales, his familiar voice filled her mind.
"Our Liege summons me, I will send you back first." Menarx thought to Neveah.
Neveah nodded as she climbed up to Menarx’s back, settling down in a comfortable position.
This was not Neveah’s first time mounting a dragon so it was much easier than the first instance.
"Ready?" Menarx thought to Neveah.
"Yes, let’s go." Neveah consented.
Menarx lunged forwards, leaping up into the sky in an agile motion, his wings beating against the wind and taking them up higher.
When they had reached a suitable altitude, Menarx shot forwards.
"It took an hour to get out this far, how long would it take to get back to Dragon Keep?" Neveah asked Menarx curiously.
"We are already here." Menarx thought to Neveah in amusement.
Neveah’s eyes widened in surprise, true to Menarx’s words, Dragon Keep became visible in the next moment and Neveah could have sworn it had only been a few minutes.
"Flight is a great difference from what you are accustomed to, you will get used to it." Menarx thought to Neveah as he made his descent on the landing platform.
Menarx’s landing was swift and Neveah was still stunned by how quickly they had arrived when a familiar voice called out to her.
"Veah!" Davina called and Neveah passed a glance over to see Davina emerge to the landing platform.
"Go on ahead, I will come find you after I see our liege." Menarx thought to Neveah.
"It went from my liege to our liege really quick... whoever said I agreed to be roped in with that..." Neveah grumbled beneath her breath as she got off Menarx’s back, but she trailed off at the end.
Menarx snorted in amusement as he gestured with his large head for Neveah to go in and then took off again, heading to the highest level.
Neveah stared after him for a moment before she turned to face Davina.
"Scales, Veah! I have not set eyes on you for weeks! And what is this about jumping off a cliff?!" Davina went off on a tirade immediately.
Neveah heaved a sigh, lifting a hand to tidy the strands of hair that had come undone due to flight.
She was not in the mood to face Davina’s questioning but Neveah knew she could not escape it.
"I thought you would have already let go of this by now, I mean I’m certain the Keep was much quieter with me gone." Neveah grumbled beneath her breath.
"I was away for a few days, I only heard of what happened on my return three days ago. And by the Creator, if Lord Menarx had not found you already I would empty out that river!" Davina hissed furiously.
Neveah was taken aback by Davina’s fierce concern and for a moment she stared at a fuming Davina, blinking in astonishment before Neveah finally chuckled.
"I am here now, aren’t I? Lord Everon says I hit my head really hard, it is detrimental to my health if you keep yelling." Neveah murmured.
Davina scoffed audibly, glaring daggers at Neveah for a moment before she covered the rest of the distance between them and pulled Neveah into a tight hug.
Neveah stiffened on instinct at Davina’s hold, her wolf growling dangerously in her head at the close proximity but Neveah restrained her wolf and maintained her calm.
