Chapter 203: A Reason (Ch.203)

Neveah grunted beneath her breath, for a moment, she could only sit and ponder over her cruel fate.

It was not her fault she could not have a bond and family, Neveah’s mother abandoned her at birth at the doors of the Eclipse Palace and her father considered her an item to be sold off to the highest bidder.

Neveah’s half brother had somehow become her mate and even he did not want her... and even if he did, Neveah would much rather go rogue than accept him.

A heart cruel enough to murder Neveah once was not a heart Neveah could ever trust or love, it was a heart she would drive a dagger through instead.

And then, Neveah was one whose identity as an Alpha King wolf had to remain hidden, how could she have a pack bond?

There was no one in Neveah’s life at this point that she could love, Neveah did not believe she was still capable of love so what exactly could she do but accept her fate?

"I am one who shut my wolf out for over a decade without being discovered. I have never bowed to fate and I will not begin now."

"Our greatest power is our will. You have me, I will not let you go savage. Rest assured." Neveah vowed to her wolf.

"I know." Neveah’s wolf thought back to her, finally back to her normal self.

Just as she had figured everything out up until this moment, Neveah was certain she could figure this out as well... she would find her own way.

"That being said, we should leave." Neveah thought to her wolf as she rose to her feet.

"Do you have to?" A familiar voice reached Neveah and she froze up, her eyes widening as Menarx emerged from the cover of trees.

The look in his eyes was a complicated mix between relief and despair and Neveah forcibly swallowed down the guilt that bubbled up in her heart.

In these past days, Neveah had forced away all thoughts of Menarx, Xenon, Everon and Davina...all the people that could trigger a second thought.

However, now, faced with a devastated looking Menarx who was visibly hurt and did not bother to hide it, Neveah was not certain how to react.

"You..." Neveah began, pausing halfway as she lifted a hand to her forehead in frustration.

Neveah had hoped she would not have to deal with this, a situation where she had to face the few good people that walked the halls of Dragon Keep.

"I... what? Do you want me to leave? Pretend I did not see you? Take you as one dead?" Menarx asked in a low tone.

He stood at a spot, as though he feared moving even a step forward would scare Neveah away.

Neveah was quiet for a moment before she finally gave a response.

"Can you do that...if I ask it of you, will you do that for me?" Neveah asked hesitantly.

"You cold, heartless woman." Menarx murmured beneath his breath at Neveah’s words.

Neveah sighed quietly, she was not even sure why she was the one who felt guilt but somehow, she knew without a doubt that the past ten days had been difficult for Menarx.

"Since you know just the kind of woman I am, you should not have me return to Dragon Keep. If you do... I will cause greater concern than what I already have." Neveah said honestly.

Neveah hoped Menarx would leave things as they were, it was better for everyone else this way.

Afterall...there was nothing more Neveah could do for Xenon, his wild haze had returned even with her by his side.

"Concern...? If I get to be concerned about you...to worry about you, why would I refuse that?" Menarx’s response was completely unexpected to Neveah.

"You dragons brought me here for Xenon, did you not?..."

"But now, I have no reason to be here. I am of no use to the dragons, I am not significant enough for you to waste your concern on...can you not see that?" Neveah sighed in exasperation.

Menarx’s gaze which had been avoiding Neveah’s eyes all this while finally moved to settle on Neveah’s eyes.

"If you are of no significance...it is up to me to decide that." Menarx hissed.

In a flash, he moved and it took only a blink of Neveah’s eyes to find Menarx right before her, staring down at her.

Menarx was so close that there was barely an inch of distance between them, his scent completely engulfed Neveah and Neveah could only blink up at him surprise.

"What is that to mean?" Neveah asked slowly.

Menarx’s red orbs reflected a stream of emotions, they moved so fast that Neveah could hardly identify any of them or even figure out what Menarx was thinking at this moment.

All Neveah knew was that there was a warmth and tenderness, an intense admiration in Menarx’s eyes, so visible that Neveah could not even deny the fact that it was directed at her.

’Menarx...loves me...’ Neveah realized at this moment in complete shock.

This level of intense admiration held in those red orbs were unmistakable, Menarx stared down at Neveah as though she was the most precious thing in existence.

It was a look so pure and sincere that there was no need for words, a look Neveah had never given or received in all her eighteen years of life.

"If you have no reason to return to Dragon Keep... then I will give you a reason, Veah." Menarx began, his hand lifting up to caress Neveah’s cheek tenderly, brushing her hair behind her ear.

"Menarx... I..." Neveah stuttered, lost for words.

"If nothing else...then let me be your reason." Menarx pleaded.

Neveah’s breath caught in her throat as Menarx’s gaze darted down to her lips,

Neveah knew what was coming before it did but it still did not prepare her for the moment Menarx’s head ducked down and his lips claimed hers in a searing kiss.
