Chapter 204: A True Home (Ch.204)

Menarx slowly pulled away, his heart racing a mile per second, as he knew it was now time to face Neveah’s reaction.

Menarx had not planned on kissing Neveah without seeking her consent first, but hearing her belittle her own significance when he himself was practically losing his mind for her... Menarx just could not help himself.

Neveah did not understand... just how cherished she actually was and it ached Menarx’s heart.

Beyond this ache was the terror Menarx felt, terror that he would be rejected and Neveah would not let him show to her just how precious she was to him.

Menarx’s eyes remained closed for a moment, his lips tingling and his heart warm... this feeling and this moment was so precious, Menarx did not want to face reality.

Menarx already knew it, that his feelings were not reciprocated and though Neveah did not push him away, she also did not kiss him back.

And so it was time for Menarx to bare his heart to this precious woman, regardless of how it turned out.

"Veah... I..." Menarx began as his eyes fluttered open.

However it was at that very moment that Neveah fell forwards, falling straight into Menarx’s arms completely limp.

Menarx was momentarily surprised, but Neveah’s stable breathing assured him she was fine and only unconscious.

"I am about to confess to you and what...? You fall unconscious right at this moment?" Menarx asked, laughing quietly to himself as he lifted Neveah up into his arms.

Menarx stared down at her, her peaceful expression while she rested and that fuzzy feeling in the pit of his stomach only grew stronger.

"I am over four hundred years old, how is it that you can still move me so? My heart should be hard enough by now...yet you make me feel like a silly child." Menarx muttered, a small smile on his lips.

"I will take you back to Dragon Keep... I know you do not want it, but trust me..."

"I will make Dragon Keep a true home to you, Neveah." Menarx vowed solemnly as he headed back in the direction he had come, his troubled heart finally at ease.

______________

"I cannot believe you would have me give you a ride back to the Keep even after piling up all your work load on me for days."

"I knew you were cruel...but not this much. This is entirely unethical and annoying." Kirgan thought to Menarx.

Kirgan was in dragon form, making the return trip back to Dragon Keep with Menarx on his back and Neveah cradled in Menarx’s arms.

Menarx had sent word to Kirgan who had come to fetch them since Menarx could not take dragon form while Neveah slept.

Of course, there had been Kaideon, the dune lord but Menarx would have to grow three heads before he would dare request such a favor from Kaideon.

"Do not be ridiculous. I love you, you love me... what more do you want? It is only reasonable you give me a ride." Menarx thought back to Kirgan in amusement.

"Gross! Just get off!" Kirgan hissed as he made his landing on the landing platform on the fourth level.

Menarx took his time climbing off, much to Kirgan’s horror and the moment Menarx was off with Neveah secured in his arms, Kirgan reverted back to his human form, a cross glare in his eyes.

"Now that the girl is back... can you get your wits together? I think I will rip a wing if I lead another week of flight patrol." Kirgan lamented, though there was a small smile on his lips.

"You know, I would never admit this before Jian but... be it you or Xenon, seeing you like this, I am glad." Kirgan admitted to Menarx.

Menarx chuckled lowly but nodded in response.

"Let Jian know I returned with her and Everon too." Menarx requested as he headed into the fourth level, making his way to Neveah’s room.

"Lord Menarx." A familiar voice greeted just as Menarx arrived at the door to Neveah’s room.

"Lady Adrienne." Menarx acknowledged without glancing back, he could sense who it was just fine without having to see.

"Is she okay?" Lady Adrienne asked again.

"Certainly." Menarx replied, he was not in the mood for a conversation and so he headed into Neveah’s room and slammed the door shut.

Menarx glanced around Neveah’s room for a moment, thankfully, he had the servants keep it cleaned and so everything was in perfect condition.

Menarx placed Neveah down on her bed, pulling the covers over her before he took a sit by her side and gazed down at her with a silly smile on his lips.

"Did you know, Veah? You truly are beautiful..." Menarx said quietly.

"I sure do hope that smile pays off." Lord Everon pointed out just as he pushed open the door and stepped in.

"Did you never learn to knock and await permission to enter?" Menarx grumbled in annoyance at the interruption.

Lord Everon glanced around for a moment before he scoffed.

"It’s not your quarters, you do not have a say." Lord Everon replied with a roll of his eyes.

"How did you arrive here so quickly? I only just told Kirgan to send word and he is sure to go to Jian first." Menarx asked with a raised brow.

"I heard you went in search of her, and so I prepared a tonic ahead of time as well as a petition to kick you out of Dragon Keep."

"If you returned with her, she would surely need her energy replenished. And if you failed, you could just go back the way you came." Lord Everon replied casually.

Menarx shook his head, not even surprised by the words of his cousin.

"How typical of you." Menarx replied.

"Well? Move aside. Let me take a look and see the extent of damage you and Jian have caused to the poor child." Lord Everon said, shooing Menarx to the side.
