Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 201: A Lone Wolf or Something Else? ()
Why was she running? Neveah was not completely certain. She could not tell if truly she was so terrified of being caught back to Dragon Keep or if she was more horrified by her own lack of control.
Arriving within the comfort of the forest and away from the hundreds of eyes watching her, Neveah reverted back to her human form, grateful she had learnt not to rip through her clothes during her shift.
"Damn it!" Neveah hissed, running a hand to through her hair.
One way or the other, Neveah knew she would have to break away from Lydia’s family, she just had not expected to make such a large spectacle of it.
The werewolf race was never conquered by the dragons, Neveah knew the sight of a werewolf in the Asvarian stronghold could be considered uncommon.
Which meant word of her shift would spread even faster than wildfire. Neveah had thought leaving control to her wolf would ensure things were handled cleanly and swiftly, but she realized now that she had made the wrong decision.
Finding and rescuing Roman had not been such a big deal, the dwarves stood no chance against Neveah the moment she caught their trail.
Yet her wolf had ended up giving them away in the heat of the moment and now there was no going back.
"What were you thinking?! Someone could have gotten hurt!" Neveah hissed at her wolf who paced uneasily within Neveah’s mind just as Neveah did in the forest.
"And what of it? Should I fear to take a few insignificant lives?" Neveah’s wolf thought back to her, still bristling in anger.
The anger of Neveah’s wolf was now directed at Neveah for forcibly removing her from control.
"We are not savages who kill without thinking of the consequences! Do you even know what could happen if dwarves are killed in the streets of Maneward by a wolf shifter? With so many watchful eyes at that?" Neveah thought back to her wolf in frustration.
"The dwarves will be raging... and so will the dragons. But of what consequence is it to us? We are a force of our own, I will not be restrained from doing as I please." Neveah’s wolf did not relent.
"What has gotten into you? I can feel your blood thirst and unease. This is so unlike you." Neveah thought to her wolf. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"What is? I am an Alpha King wolf, Veah. I was always meant to be this... domineering, merciless... just like the rest of the family." Neveah’s wolf thought back.
These words from Neveah’s wolf sent Neveah’s mind reeling and she froze up in complete shock.
Never... not even once had Neveah’s wolf affirmed to their blood ties with Alpha King Lothaire Raul, Neveah’s wolf would not even make a reference to it because of how much it disgusted Neveah’s wolf.
But now, Neveah’s wolf had just admitted to sharing familial ties... and even the traits of Alpha King Lothaire.
"We are nothing like them! We never will be!" Neveah snapped at her wolf, wishing she could pull her wolf out of her mind and knock some sense into her large furry head.
"Are you certain of that? Or do you only say it because it makes you feel better?" Neveah’s wolf asked her.
Neveah fell completely silent, every word and action of her wolf in the past few hours left her in absolute confusion.
The only thing Neveah knew at this point was the fact that something was wrong... terribly wrong.
"Please... just help me understand what is going on with you, you are like a completely different soul..." Neveah thought to her wolf in confusion.
Neveah’s wolf was quiet for a moment, she did not reply to Neveah’s question immediately but seemed to ponder how best to respond.
"I did warn you not to get attached to the humans, did I not... Veah?" Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
Neveah blinked in astonishment, in the past ten days, her wolf repeatedly reminded Neveah not to grow emotionally attached to Lydia’s family.
Neveah had believed it was her wolf being wary of everything as usual, Neveah had also tried to comply with her wolf’s advice.
"What does that have to do with this?" Neveah asked her wolf.
"You wanted to save the child... and your will is mine. What you wish to save... I must save at any cost."
"Do you remember the words Alpha Dane said to us? Back on the first day of training?" Neveah’s wolf thought back to her.
Neveah still could not understand it.. until it clicked. Once, Alpha Dane has said some worrisome words that had bothered Neveah for days after.
"A wolf without a bond...an Alpha King without a pack. Wolves thrive on bonds, it is the most significant part of our existence... the bond with family... with a pack... with a mate... this completes a wolf and tempers it’s true savage nature..."
"Surviving this long without any of these bonds, you are a strong one Veah. But remember...a wolf is a being of attachment. If you chose the path of a lone wolf...you must bear the consequences."
"The fate of rogues...it is also linked to this fact. That a wolf without a bond will ultimately...go savage. If ever you find your wolf strange and hard to control, then it would mean my words may come true."
"I wish not such a fate for you Neveah, so do not live so coldly and turn everyone away... you deserve much better." Alpha Dane had said.
Neveah’s eyes widened in horror as she recalled Alpha Dane’s words, suddenly, her legs felt too weak and she staggered backwards, leaning against a tree for support.
There were those who lived as rogues, chosing a solitary life... and there were those who had actually gone rogue, losing themselves to insanity.
Of the two, one was considered a lone wolf and the other was known to be a savage... the difference, it was one simple fact.
One still had what he wished to protect... while the other had nothing more to lose.
Of the two... Neveah knew exactly what path she was headed for.
"Are we... going rogue?" Neveah asked in horror.
