Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Is She Really Dead?

Melanie gritted her teeth, staring at those two disgusting poisonous insects, unsure of what to do for a moment.

"With these two insects, you can change your face to whoever you want." The old woman tempted her again.

Melanie’s eyes lit up upon hearing this: ’Really? I wonder if I can change into May’s appearance?’

"Hehehe... you can, as long as you can get rid of her, then you can become her and be Vincent’s most cherished wife!"

"Alright, I, I want it!" As soon as Melanie thought of her unwillingness and Vincent’s favoritism towards May, she finally made up her mind and reached out to the old woman resolutely.

The old woman muttered a spell, and the two insects quickly left her palm and crawled into Melanie’s hand.

Melanie watched as the two insects burrowed into her palm instantly and then disappeared.

She felt dizzy in her chest, her head unclear, and when she looked at the old woman again, she saw her revealing a sinister smile.

This smile made her feel utterly hopeless.

"You...deceived me?" Melanie’s heart trembled; instinctively feeling tricked, she rushed toward the old woman with all her strength.

However, as she lunged, the old woman vanished into thin air, and Melanie fell to the ground, no longer having the strength to struggle and stand up.

Her vision gradually blurred, her mind went blank, and within moments, she completely lost consciousness.

The car transporting Melanie was involved in an accident, and Vincent received the news immediately. Fearing that May would want to go along, he decided to hide it from her and drove to the accident scene with Jacob Jennings.

By the time they arrived, the police had set up a perimeter, and the individuals injured in the car were being rescued with all efforts.

Except for Melanie, who died instantly, the other two bodyguards and a driver were only unconscious without serious injuries.

Vincent visited the scene, looked at the interior of the car and Melanie’s already lifeless body, feeling that something was amiss.

Jacob, seeing Vincent frowning at Melanie’s corpse, softly asked: ’Master, is there something amiss?’

Vincent pointed at Melanie’s corpse and asked Jacob in return: "Shouldn’t there be a problem? Look at this car accident; it’s obviously not serious, and the others in the car didn’t suffer severe injuries, so how did Melanie die?"

"This..." Jacob was puzzled as well and could only look at Melanie’s body and suggest to Vincent: ’Should we have the forensic specialist check Melanie’s body?’

Vincent shook his head, saying: "A postmortem examination is certainly necessary, but I still feel something is off, though I can’t pinpoint what’s strange."

Actually, since they arrived, Jacob sensed something was off, a scent that felt suspicious but was almost too faint to notice upon close inspection.

"Master, tomorrow is Miss Morgan’s wedding; you have many things to prepare. Wouldn’t it be better to return home and leave everything here to me?"

To prevent any hidden dangers around, Jacob quickly persuaded Vincent to head back.

Vincent looked at him, suddenly recalling what was wrong; indeed, there was one person missing in the car.

The bodyguard responsible for transporting Melanie had called him before they set off, saying that Melody White wanted to come along, asking him for approval. Without much thought, he agreed.

Since he agreed, Melody must have been in the car. But after arriving, he only saw Melanie’s corpse and three unconscious subordinates; Melody was nowhere to be seen.

This wasn’t reasonable, definitely not reasonable. Did Melody run off after the accident? But she wasn’t a murderer, so why run?

"Jacob, go and negotiate with the police to search the nearby woods, see if Melody White is around." Thinking this, Vincent quickly instructed Jacob.

Jacob nodded in agreement: ’Alright, I will negotiate now and call over our personnel to search if Melody is still nearby.’

After a pause, Vincent glanced deeply at Melanie’s lifeless face, shaking his head and sighing: "I didn’t expect she’d actually die like this." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Before Melanie set off, Vincent was worried that something might happen along the way because she was too cunning and had escaped several times, with many mysterious forces backing her that might ambush her again.

But this woman just died like that? Died without any forewarning? Has the old man lost interest in using her, hence calmly decided to have her killed? Or is this fate for her wrongdoings, collected by heaven above?

Vincent would definitely believe the former more than the latter, but the former seemed not to stand scrutiny as well, for if the old man indeed wanted Melanie dead, he certainly wouldn’t choose halfway; he should have acted when she was hospitalized.

"Master, what are you thinking about again?" Seeing Vincent constantly staring at Melanie’s face, Jacob quickly approached and asked softly.

Vincent ignored Jacob and instead walked straight to Melanie’s stretcher, suddenly unveiling the white cloth over her to inspect her physical condition.

The coroner had arrived on site, saw Vincent disturbing the body, and immediately moved to stop him: ’Young Master Vance, please do not move the body randomly. Corpses, after death, will develop bacteria which can harm the living, so please keep a safe distance.’

Jacob quickly reached out, grabbed Vincent’s arm, and forcibly pulled him three meters away from the corpse: "Master, are you crazy? This woman is dead to the core, why go near her?"

Vincent looked at Jacob and saw his face filled with anxiety, eventually saying nothing and turning back to his car.

As he turned, he involuntarily turned back to glance at Melanie, only to find that her hand exposed outside seemed different from before.

Vincent had seen Melanie’s hand, very slim, very pale, very youthful, but this woman’s hand seemed somewhat... aged!

"Master, let’s go?" Jacob grabbed Vincent and led him into the car.

Once in the car, Jacob, sensing Vincent’s lingering worries, explained: "The coroner will conduct an autopsy on Melanie’s body, and as to how she died, I believe they will give us an answer."

Vincent nodded, carefully instructing Jacob: ’Make sure to find the fleeing Melody White; I feel she might know something about the accident.’

"Got it."

After repeated reminders, Vincent and Jacob drove back to Zenith Villa. After all that had transpired, it was already past two in the morning.
