When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 128: In This Moment, She Was Overwhelmed with Emotion
The ambulance had arrived, and once they got into the vehicle, it headed straight for the hospital.
On the way, Faye Turner was given an oxygen mask. Although weak, her consciousness improved significantly, and a doctor examined her.
Adrian Lancaster anxiously stayed by her side, holding her hand and repeatedly asking the doctor, "Why did this happen? Is it just hypoxia? Or was she frightened?" Suddenly, he seemed like a child afraid of losing something precious.
After all, apart from his grandfather, Faye was the second person who truly cared for him.
The lack of familial affection since childhood had led him to cherish this feeling deeply. Since getting married, he seemed to have gotten used to her presence.
The doctor continued examining her while comforting him, "It shouldn’t be anything serious; her body just seems a bit weak lately."
Once they arrived at the hospital, Adrian Lancaster, as the family member, was shut out of the examination room, watching several doctors enter and the door close.
His heart was in unprecedented turmoil, something he himself was unaware of.
Various thoughts flooded his mind, as if he was on the brink of losing a loved one, but he also knew that the situation wasn’t as severe.
Soon, the door before him opened.
The doctor walked out holding a chart, looking quite relaxed, but Adrian Lancaster remained cautious, asking, "Doctor, how is she doing?"
"Who are you to her?" the doctor asked gently.
Adrian Lancaster answered truthfully, "I’m her husband!"
The doctor’s face lit up with joy, "Well, congratulations, you’re going to be a father!"
This result was unexpected for Adrian Lancaster, but he soon accepted it, "Does she know?"
"She just found out."
"Alright." He reached out to take the chart.
The doctor explained to him, "She’s only been pregnant for a short while, so it didn’t show up on the ultrasound. We just did a urine test because she was worried that being pregnant might affect the baby’s health due to her stomach pains."
Adrian Lancaster understood that Faye Turner genuinely wanted to make a life with him.
Through their interactions, he also found her to be a kind-hearted girl.
Soon, the girl was wheeled out on a stretcher, and Adrian Lancaster approached her with the chart in hand and accompanied her to the ward.
The doctors connected her to an IV with glucose; her condition wasn’t serious, just physically weak, shocked, and slightly hypoxic. Rest would make her better.
In the ward, after explaining a few things, the doctor left.
Faye Turner lay quietly on the hospital bed, while Adrian Lancaster stood before it, and their eyes met.
The girl wasn’t sure what he felt, and compared to joy, she felt more fear.
She was afraid he’d break his promise, afraid he’d change his mind.
So she softly spoke up, "You said that if I got pregnant, this child could be born."
She also knew that promises made in bed aren’t entirely reliable.
Especially from a man like Adrian Lancaster; to him, this baby wasn’t just a baby, but a real heir. There were countless interests involved.
And she knew she wasn’t the woman he loved most; Faye Turner was clear on that.
Detecting her worry and fear, Adrian Lancaster realized he might have been too serious, so he curved his lips into a gentle smile, took a couple of steps forward, and sat in the chair by the bed.
His lips formed a pleasing arc, a smile she hadn’t seen before that made her heart warm.
Adrian Lancaster took her hand tenderly, cherished it in his palm, and gently rubbed it, saying to her, "Rest assured and bring this child into the world; whether it’s a boy or a girl, I’ll love them."
Looking into his eyes, perceiving his sincerity, Faye Turner felt an illusion; she seemed to have married for love.
At that moment, she was incredibly moved.
A radiant smile graced her lips, her face exuding a unique maternal warmth.
"Alright." She agreed with him, "I’ll definitely take good care of this baby, nourish and protect them until they’re born and as they grow."
