Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Elevator Terror

After the car arrived, Adrian Lancaster and Faye Turner got out together.

Looking at the tall silhouette walking ahead, she followed him in confusion, "Aren’t you going to meet Mr. Jamil?"

"I’ve left that to Dustin Shepherd." He continued walking forward without turning his head.

The girl hurried to catch up, and they entered the elevator together. His slender fingers pressed the button for the 28th floor.

The elevator ascended steadily, and as she stood beside him, she continuously felt apologetic, though unsure of what to say.

Suddenly, there was a clunk, the elevator stopped, and the doors failed to open automatically.

The lights inside the elevator flickered a few times rapidly and then went out completely, plunging them into darkness!

"Ah!" Faye Turner turned and plunged into Adrian Lancaster’s arms, "I’m scared of the dark!"

He embraced her in turn, "There’s a malfunction."

The next second, the elevator began to plummet crazily!

"Ah—"

The sensation of weightlessness was like a roller coaster, full of unknown danger.

Faye Turner was petrified, clinging tightly to his waist.

Adrian Lancaster took a step back with her, pressing them against the wall of the elevator!

With one arm around her, he lit up all the floor buttons with his other hand!

Soon, the elevator stopped somewhere, but they weren’t sure which floor.

Faye Turner’s heart was still suspended high, not yet calm, "Adrian..."

"Don’t be afraid, I’m here." Adrian Lancaster’s tone was steady. He held her tightly with one arm and took out his phone with the other to call maintenance.

He explained their exact location and the situation they had encountered to the property management.

Listening to his voice and feeling his warmth, she gradually felt reassured; in the dark, she nestled against him, reluctant to let go.

If she had been trapped alone tonight, she would have surely broken down.

"Can you..." After making the call to maintenance, Adrian Lancaster coughed lightly twice, "Can you ease up a bit? I can hardly breathe from your grip."

She slowly lessened her grip, but still clung to him, almost hanging onto him.

In the darkness, they sensed each other’s faint and special fragrance, enveloping them in an inexplicable sense of safety.

The rescue process seemed a bit prolonged, as no one knew which floor the elevator was stuck on, so it required thorough checking.

After more than ten minutes, voices from the technicians outside could be heard—

"Is it on this floor?" Someone knocked on the elevator door, "Is anyone inside?! Can you hear us?"

"Yes! We’re inside!" Adrian Lancaster responded loudly.

"Alright, we’ve heard you! Our technician is coming, please lean back a little!" the person outside shouted, "We might use force to open the door!"

Adrian Lancaster was already embracing Faye Turner against the wall of the elevator; it was pitch black inside, nothing to be seen.

Faye Turner felt her chest tighten all of a sudden, not from fear, but physical discomfort was growing more apparent.

She finally couldn’t withstand it, "Adrian, I..."

"What’s wrong?" He quickly supported her when he heard her shaky voice, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Adrian Lancaster noticed her breathing was a bit labored, reaching out to touch her forehead, finding it damp with sweat.

He hurriedly picked her up, "Hang in there, it should be soon."

"Adrian, my stomach hurts terribly..." Faye Turner’s voice was slightly trembling, "My head feels dizzy too."

Lack of oxygen must be the cause!

Adrian Lancaster shouted loudly to the outside, "Someone inside is about to faint! Stomach pain! Quickly call 120! Speed up opening the door!!"

"Alright, alright, right away!"

The door before them was continuously being pried open, the noise was quite loud, yet the door showed no signs of movement, no light seeped through.

After about another ten minutes, Faye Turner weakly clung to his neck and leaned against his chest, growing more feeble, "Adrian, I’m sorry..."

He held her with his arm, somewhat puzzled by her words.

"If I hadn’t called you, you wouldn’t be trapped here with me."

"Are you stupid?" Adrian Lancaster’s voice was deep, "What would you do if you were trapped here alone? If you were a stranger, I wouldn’t care, but you’re my wife!"

These words warmed her heart, grateful he didn’t find her burdensome.

Another ten minutes passed, with Adrian Lancaster urging repeatedly.

Just as the elevator doors opened wide, she closed her eyes weakly, leaning into his embrace.

Adrian Lancaster dashed out, carrying Faye Turner!
