When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 42: What about as Your Mr. Fairchild?
Those words were a wake-up call.
When Julian Fairchild thought of Susie and her child who had died in infancy, a wave of panic washed over him.
’What happened to Susie can’t happen to Luna.’
Blaze was protecting this child so thoroughly and meticulously.
’Nothing can happen to Luna and the baby! Absolutely nothing!’
Otherwise, Blaze would be completely crushed.
Julian Fairchild personally ordered them to leave.
"Go home," he said. "And don’t come back to the Fairchild Estate to disturb us until after Luna’s baby is born."
"I don’t have many years left. My only wish for the new year is that Blaze can be happy."
Miles Jacobs hadn’t expected things to turn out this way. "Father, I’m so sorry. I’ll be sure to discipline Kai when I get home."
’I really can’t stay here any longer.’ He was at a critical juncture in his career, and he couldn’t afford a single piece of negative publicity.
"Luna, I’ll come by another day to apologize properly. Please take care of yourself."
As someone of a younger generation, Luna Axton couldn’t keep pressing the issue with him.
At least, as a father, his apologetic demeanor was impeccable.
She offered a well-intentioned reminder. "Uncle, you hold a high position. If you don’t want to bring disaster upon yourself through careless words, it would be wise to keep your family’s behavior in check."
Rosalind Fairchild tried to say something else, but a single glare from Julian Fairchild silenced her.
She reluctantly dragged Kai away.
And just like that, a happy reunion dinner ended on a sour note.
Worried that Luna Axton might feel burdened, Julian Fairchild comforted her. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Luna, you did nothing wrong. Kai was the one at fault, so it has nothing to do with you. Grandpa likes you. I’m very pleased with you as my granddaughter-in-law."
"Grandpa, I know you care about me. I just don’t want Mom to think badly of me, or to feel guilty."
’She could bear the hardships of her part-time job, but she couldn’t let her mother find out.’
"What mother in the world thinks her own child is no good? Darling, I don’t live my life based on what other people say."
"Exactly, exactly," Julian Fairchild chimed in. "Blaze, don’t just stand around here. Take Luna out for a walk to lift her spirits."
Blaze Fairchild agreed it was a good idea to go out for a walk, especially since the weather was nice.
The two of them had never gone out together before. Now, sitting in the car, neither of them knew where to go.
In any case, they had followed the elder’s advice and gotten out of the house.
Because of how Blaze Fairchild had defended her in front of their elders, Luna Axton was starting to think he wasn’t as difficult to get along with as he first appeared.
She suggested, "How about we go browse some baby stores? And maybe a bookstore."
Blaze Fairchild readily agreed and told the bodyguard who was driving, "Take us to Summit Plaza."
The car fell silent. Blaze Fairchild wasn’t a man of many words to begin with.
Luna Axton fidgeted with the hem of her clothes and decided to take the first step. "I came up with a nickname for the baby... Lucky. You don’t mind, do you?"
"No."
"You can choose the given name."
"Okay."
Whatever Luna Axton said, Blaze Fairchild agreed. His tone and expression were noticeably softer than before.
’Is he still worried about me?’
"Mr. Fairchild, I’m fine. They can’t hurt me."
The worry in Blaze Fairchild’s eyes faded slightly as his gaze rested on her. "That’s good."
Luna Axton glanced at the hand resting on his thigh. She debated with herself for a long time but ultimately decided not to take it.
The mall’s maternity and infant products were all located on the second floor. Last time, Rosalind Fairchild had only taken her to a few shops on the first floor.
She hadn’t realized that the second floor not only had maternity and baby stores, but also a children’s playground, a themed restaurant for kids, and a children’s bookstore.
The shops were all conveniently located together, so parents with children wouldn’t get too tired walking around.
It was New Year’s Day, and many parents were out with their children to celebrate the start of the new year.
With strollers, scooters, and toddlers wobbling as they learned to walk, the second-floor corridor was crowded and lively.
Blaze Fairchild reached out and enclosed Luna Axton’s hand in his own.
Her attention captivated by a window display, she was startled when someone suddenly took her hand. She turned to see it was Blaze Fairchild.
"What is it?"
"It’s crowded. Better if we hold hands."
"Okay." Luna Axton gave him a sweet smile and squeezed his hand back.
Blaze Fairchild’s hand was broad, while hers was small and delicate.
The warmth of their palms pressed together made them seem like a pair of lovers, each leaning on the other.
"I like the style of this store. Let’s go check it out."
Although Luna Axton was asking for Blaze Fairchild’s opinion, she couldn’t wait another second and pulled him right into the store.
The store’s decor had a rustic, nature-inspired theme, dominated by floral and small animal patterns that perfectly matched Luna Axton’s tastes.
"Is this cute?" Luna Axton picked up a onesie and held it up in front of herself for Blaze Fairchild to see.
The soft fabric was printed with a little lion pattern, making it both playful and adorable.
Luna Axton’s eyes sparkled with anticipation.
Blaze Fairchild’s lips curved into a smile. "You like it?"
"It’s adorable."
He felt the material. "If you like it, we’ll buy it. The fabric is soft; it won’t irritate Lucky’s delicate skin."
’Lucky.’
Blaze Fairchild had accepted the nickname she’d picked out.
Luna Axton’s eyes curved into crescents. "Then I’m definitely getting this."
She looked through the display clothes, showing every one she liked to Blaze Fairchild.
He would hold out the basket, as if to say, ’Item approved for purchase.’
Luna Axton browsed aimlessly, with Blaze Fairchild trailing behind her, carrying the shopping basket.
Neat rows of baby bottles lined the shelves. Luna Axton picked them up one by one, comparing them over and over, but couldn’t spot any difference.
"Get this one." Blaze Fairchild picked one out for her.
"Why?"
"The company did some market research. This model has the best reviews."
"Evergrow is in the maternity and infant business?" Luna Axton asked casually.
"This bottle was selected for the postpartum care packages we give to our female employees."
Lindsey had mentioned before that the biggest reason she wanted to stay at Evergrow Group was its comprehensive benefits for female employees, which were the best in the country.
"Your company’s benefits for women are incredibly appealing, you know that?"
"I know." Blaze Fairchild straightened his back and lifted his chin slightly.
"When I was younger, I remember thinking women were scary, emotionally unstable creatures. But as I grew up, entered the workforce, and became the president of Evergrow, I came to realize that women face more challenges and complications than men. Most women are naturally more emotionally attuned and detail-oriented, which is why I was the one who proposed our company’s policies regarding female employee benefits."
Luna Axton was genuinely impressed. She gave him a thumbs-up. "You’re amazing."
’To win the same position against a group of men, a woman often has to be even more outstanding than they are.’
Blaze Fairchild raised an eyebrow, his tone brimming with confidence. "Does your friend have any other complaints?"
"Huh?" Luna Axton was confused. "What friend?"
Blaze Fairchild’s brow furrowed slightly. ’Does she have that many friends?’
"The one who was complaining about overtime at the company."
Luna Axton: "..."
’So that night, Blaze Fairchild heard everything she and Lindsey said about their heartless boss!’
"I didn’t know it was you back then."
Luna Axton looked down in embarrassment, grabbing a random item to try and change the subject.
"Mr. Fairchild, what do you think of this?"
But Blaze Fairchild wouldn’t let it go. "So if you had known it was me, you wouldn’t have joined in on calling me a heartless boss?"
"As the baby’s father, you’re very conscientious. And as a boss... well, you made changes quickly, so that’s good too."
"And what about as *your* Mr. Fairchild?"
’What does he mean?’
Luna Axton was baffled.
’*Her* Mr. Fairchild!’
’Doesn’t everyone call him Mr. Fairchild?’
"Hm?"
Blaze Fairchild leaned down, meeting her gaze and compelling her to answer the question.
