Chapter 43: Chapter 43: He’s Fallen for Luna Axton

Blaze Fairchild’s face was just inches away. Luna Axton could even see her own reflection in his pupils.

Her eyes were curved in a smile, her cheeks were red, and she looked bashful.

Her heart, spurred on by Blaze Fairchild’s proximity, began to thump wildly, uncontrollably.

"You’re very nice, too... Mr. Fairchild."

"Luna Axton." His voice was low, exactly like his soft murmur on that passionate night.

Her face instantly started to burn, growing scorching hot.

’It’s so hot. Why is the mall’s air conditioning cranked up so high?!’

She bit her lip, feigning composure. "What?"

Luna Axton had no idea just how alluring she was at that moment.

To Blaze Fairchild, the act of her biting her lip was the temptation of a siren.

Blaze Fairchild’s voice was husky. "Lift your head."

Luna Axton didn’t understand what he was about to do, but she obediently raised her head.

The next second, their lips touched.

The entire world fell silent. His lips felt cool against hers.

In a flash, blood rushed through her entire body, surging to her head.

Her brain short-circuited, unable to function.

Her body, because of the sudden kiss, lost its strength, and she leaned into Blaze Fairchild’s embrace.

Luna Axton remained with her head tilted back, her eyes stunned as she stared blankly at Blaze Fairchild.

Blaze Fairchild let out a low chuckle, his tone intimate. "Luna Axton, the way you look right now makes a man want to... tease you."

If they weren’t out in public, that kiss wouldn’t have been a simple meeting of lips.

Luna Axton steadied herself and awkwardly tucked her short hair behind her ear. "I didn’t mean to."

"I know." Blaze Fairchild was in high spirits. "That item in your hand isn’t right for you."

The item in her hand.

Luna Axton lifted it for a look. An inverted nipple corrector.

This... Why would a maternity and baby store sell this?!

’Well, considering market demand, I guess it does make sense for a maternity store to sell it.’

Luna Axton smacked her head in frustration. ’Luna Axton, oh, Luna Axton, were you not using your eyes when you picked up the item?!’

’So embarrassing.’

"See anything else you like?"

She followed closely behind Blaze Fairchild, her heart unable to calm down for a long time.

"No."

Blaze Fairchild went to pay, and then the two went to the children’s bookstore next door.

There were children’s picture books for all age groups. Luna Axton found a Hello Kitty sticker book on a shelf.

She exclaimed in surprise, "They actually have it here."

When sticker books first came out, she and Lindsey had run all over Kensing, checking every bookstore big and small, but they were all sold out.

The book was wrapped in protective film. Luna Axton turned it over a few times.

In the end, she reluctantly placed it back on the shelf.

Blaze Fairchild was confused. "Don’t you like it? Why not buy it?"

"I’m already twenty-two, and I’m about to be a mother. It’s too childish for me to play with this."

"If you like it, just buy it." Blaze Fairchild’s tone was domineering as he took the book back down. "Since when do things you like have an age limit?"

"I..." Luna Axton hesitated.

Blaze Fairchild asked her directly, "Do you like it or not?"

She nodded obediently. "I like it."

"Then we’ll buy it. You can play with it in your room where no one will see."

"Mhm." Luna Axton nodded vigorously, her heart soaring.

She was happy because something she had missed out on was being fulfilled, but even more so because she was being given permission.

She could play with her favorite stickers in her room, and she was allowed to show her childish side, even though she was about to become a mother.

She was a mother, but she didn’t have to *only* be a mother.

Luna Axton picked out a few bedtime story books, as well as black-and-white flashcards, peek-a-boo books, and cloth books. These were all things Lucky could use as soon as he was born.

After they had more or less finished browsing the mall, they headed home.

As soon as Luna Axton got back to Lakeside Manor, she complained of being tired, changed into her loungewear, and flopped directly onto the bed.

She had absolutely no energy to remove the tags or organize the things they had bought.

When Blaze Fairchild returned to the room after a work call, Luna Axton was already fast asleep on the bed.

’It seems she really was tired out from shopping.’

The figure on the bed had a fair, peaceful face, her crimson lips slightly parted.

He thought of the kiss from that afternoon.

That soft sensation was like magic, drawing Blaze Fairchild closer.

He crouched by the bedside, leaned his upper body forward, and gently lowered his lips to hers.

The unfamiliar sensation made his heart race uncontrollably.

Not satisfied with a mere touch of their lips, Blaze Fairchild pressed down a little harder.

Just that little bit of extra pressure on her soft, yielding lips sent a tingling sensation through the small of his back, causing the sleek muscles of his spine to tense up.

Blaze Fairchild restrained himself and pulled back.

He realized with clarity that he liked Luna Axton.

It was an attraction that was deeply physical. He liked hugging her, holding her hand, the touch of their lips. But teasing her—seeing her shy, frustrated, or flustered expressions—also brought him a deep sense of pleasure, both mental and physical.

When he was with Luna Axton, he felt very relaxed.

All the complicated matters would automatically vanish from his mind.

Blaze Fairchild understood his feelings for Luna Axton.

He was falling for Luna Axton. He longed to be with her.

Whether holding hands or hugging, he liked it all.

His lips descended again, kissing her forehead.

He whispered, "You and the baby... you both have to be well."

Miles Jacobs brought his family back to their residence. The moment he got out of the car, he grabbed Kai’s ear and dragged him toward the living room.

Rosalind Fairchild, wearing high heels, chased after them with a CLICK-CLACK-CLICK.

"Miles Jacobs, slow down!"

"Kai, say something nice to placate your father!"

Burning with rage, Miles Jacobs walked so fast he couldn’t hear his beautiful wife’s words at all.

"Yvonne, hurry, go and stop him. Otherwise, your uncle might actually beat your cousin to death."

Yvonne Rhodes was also scared of her uncle. "Aunt, my cousin really did go too far."

’If Kai hadn’t caused such a scene, I could have stayed at the Fairchild Estate a little longer and seen more of Ian at home.’

’Ian’s clothes today were different from the formal suits he wears for work.’

’He was wearing a knit sweater. He gave off such strong husband vibes; my heart was truly fluttering.’

’But Kai ruined it all.’

’It serves him right that Uncle is beating him.’

’Now Grandpa Fairchild dotes on Luna Axton even more, and Ian will definitely be coddling her too.’

’The very thought of Ian defending Luna Axton, even saying that he was the one who initiated things when they were in bed...’

’...it drove me mad with jealousy.’

’I’m clearly better looking than Luna Axton, my figure is curvier, I’m more eye-catching to men, and I could satisfy him better.’

’So why won’t Ian come to me?!’

Miles Jacobs kicked Kai into the living room.

Seeing this, the maids scattered in fear.

"Kneel! And take off your clothes!"

Miles Jacobs snapped off a stalk of Emerald River Bamboo that was planted by the door and locked the main door behind him.

When he entered, he saw Kai standing there fearlessly, showing no sign of remorse.

He took off his glasses, which were in the way, raised the bamboo cane, and started striking Kai with it.

The bamboo leaves had withered and fallen off. The cane was thin but flexible, and it was excruciatingly painful when it struck flesh.

Even through his clothes, Kai howled in pain.

Kai’s reaction dissipated more than half of Miles Jacobs’s anger. No matter how much of a punk he was, he was still his own flesh and blood.

"Kneel and take off your clothes, or I’ll beat the hide off you."

Kai remained standing and yelled defiantly, "I’m an adult! Corporal punishment doesn’t create filial sons! You can beat me to death, but I’m still going to intern at Evergrow!"

"Fine! Fine! Just fine! Kai, let’s see which is tougher—your skin or my cane!"

Kai was unmoved.

Miles Jacobs struck Kai again, and again, and again.

With every lash of the cane, Kai cried out in pain, but he resolutely refused to kneel or take off his clothes.

Rosalind Fairchild stood outside, anxiously pounding on the door. "Miles Jacobs, he’s your son! Those other people are just outsiders, they don’t matter! Are you really going to beat him to death?"

"What could he have possibly done wrong? You’re busy with work all year round, I’m the one raising him! If you’re unhappy with something, take it out on me!"

Miles Jacobs couldn’t bear to hear his wife shouting herself hoarse like that.

"Look how angry you’ve made your mother! This isn’t how your mother usually raises you."

He threw down the bamboo cane and opened the living room door.

The moment Rosalind Fairchild saw the scene in the living room, she gasped.

Yvonne Rhodes, a step behind her, was inwardly cheering. ’So satisfying! He got what he deserved!’
