Chapter 75: Chapter 75: She Doesn’t Want Me Anymore

Vivian’s fingertips trembled, tears welling in her eyes. "Jett Sterling and I... we’re not going to have children."

"Boss, did you two fight because of me? Please don’t. Nothing is going on between us. You have to explain it to him. If you can’t, I’ll go explain it myself."

"Don’t get involved. Explaining will only make things more complicated."

"That’s true," Shane Shaw reasoned. "But Boss, I don’t think Jett Sterling actually believes anything is going on between us. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have made all these arrangements for me. You have to understand, it would be child’s play for him to get rid of me. He could even force me to marry Diana Davenport right now. There was absolutely no reason for him to help me. So, the more I think about it, the more I’m convinced he’s truly good to you."

"I know..." Vivian closed her eyes, letting the tears slide down her face.

They didn’t talk for long before hanging up.

Vivian sat on the rug by the bed, staring blankly into space.

The sky gradually darkened. Nanny Jenner knocked on the door several times, calling for Vivian to come down for dinner, but she received no response.

Vivian fell into a stupor-like sleep. In her dream, that blurry figure appeared again. He was incredibly strong, pressing down on her until she couldn’t breathe.

"Ah!" Vivian jolted awake from the nightmare, shooting upright and gasping for breath.

A night light glowed in the spacious, luxurious master bedroom, but Jett Sterling was nowhere to be seen beside her.

Vivian gave a bitter smile. ’What am I even expecting?’

’Do I really expect him to come back after I’ve hurt him over and over again?’

Covered in a cold sweat, Vivian went to the bathroom for a shower. She wrapped herself in a bathrobe, walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and pulled back the curtains.

The sky was turning a pale, grayish white. A few maids were already sweeping in the garden, and it felt as if a new day was beginning.

But only Vivian knew that her world had lost its light. From this day forward, she would be forever shrouded in darkness...

...

「In a downtown apartment.」

Jett Sterling sat by the floor-to-ceiling windows, his gaze fixed on the world outside.

His phone rang. He picked it up. "What is it?"

"Jett, you sound grumpy. What’s wrong? Bad mood?"

"If you have something to say, say it," the man said flatly.

"Nothing, I just missed you. Hey, by the way, weren’t you always asking me about that ugly duckling, Vivian Quinn? Why haven’t you asked lately? I forgot to tell you, she broke up with my good-for-nothing cousin. I heard the whole thing was a real soap opera. Want me to dig up the details for you?"

"No need." A bitter look flashed in Jett’s eyes, his deep voice strained and hoarse. "She doesn’t want me anymore..."

"Huh? Who doesn’t want you? Who would dare dump you, Jett? Is she out of her mind?"

Jett didn’t reply. He just hung up the phone.

Easton Rivers opened the door and walked to Jett’s side, bowing his head slightly. "Master Sterling, you’ve been up all night. You should get some rest."

"The Madam?"

"I just called Sycamore Bay. Nanny Jenner said the Madam has gone out. She mentioned a trip to the mall."

"Understood. You may go."

"Yes, sir."

...

Vivian had gone to the mall to buy a gift for Shane Shaw. After this farewell, she didn’t know when they would see each other again, or how much things would have changed by the time they did. That’s why she wanted to prepare a special gift for him.

"Miss, this fountain pen is one of our classic models. We can also engrave the cap. It’s the perfect gift for a boyfriend."

Vivian reined in her thoughts. "It’s not for a boyfriend, but the pen is nice. I’ll take it. Please engrave a capital ’Y’ on it."

"Of course."

Vivian waited half an hour for the engraved pen, then went straight to a hot pot restaurant on an upper floor. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

When she entered the private room, Shane Shaw was already there.

"Boss, are you sure this is a good idea? Won’t Jett Sterling get the wrong idea again?"

"It’s fine." Vivian sat down and pulled an elegant box from her bag. "For you."

"Great minds think alike. I got you a gift, too." Shane Shaw produced a large box. "I bought you a new laptop. The one you have is a few years old and getting really slow."

"Thank you." Vivian’s eyes stung. "Shane, thank you for always being there for me these past few years."

"Boss, there’s no need to say things like that."

Shane opened the gift box. "What a beautiful pen! I love it. Thanks, Boss."

"I’ve never really had money to buy you gifts before. This is a first."

The card the Quinn Family had given her had a strict limit, just enough to cover Joy Chase’s medical bills. She never had any extra money to spend.

"Boss, we’re past that. Just wait for me to come back from my time abroad. I’ll become stronger, strong enough to protect you better... Oh, right, and there’s still the matter of finding your master."

"Thanks for secretly helping me investigate all these years. You don’t need to worry about it anymore. I’ll continue the search myself."

Shane said comfortingly, "Boss, don’t put so much pressure on yourself. You’re too young to be shouldering all this. You look terrible. I’m worried about leaving you like this."

"Don’t worry, I’ll be fine." A cold glint flashed in Vivian’s eyes. "No matter what happens, I will live on. I will personally drag the people who harmed me down to Hell, one by one..."

’Rachel Quinn has brought me to this. If I don’t get my revenge, I’ll have no right to live!’

Shane watched her with suspicion. "Boss, are you sure you’re okay? Something feels off about you."

"I’m fine." Vivian smiled and put some food on his plate. "When do you leave?"

"The day after tomorrow. My grandfather said the Sterling Family ordered it to be as soon as possible. Boss, you don’t have to come see me off. I hate goodbyes. It’s like when I was a kid and got left in the countryside. Every time my mom came to visit, she’d be a sobbing mess when it was time to leave. I can’t stand scenes like that."

Vivian chuckled. "I never said I was going to cry."

"But the feeling is still the same. And this time, I think I’m the one who’ll cry."

"Fine, I won’t see you off, then. Don’t want you holding a grudge against me for making you cry."

"Okay. I’ll message you once I land."

"Okay."

...

After they finished their meal, Vivian didn’t let Shane drive her. They said their goodbyes at the elevator bank.

Vivian stepped out of the mall, only to find that a downpour had started at some point.

She held a hand over her head and dashed into the rain.

She had only taken a few steps when an arm suddenly grabbed her, and a large black umbrella opened above her head.

Vivian turned, surprised. "Zachary Quinn? Is that you?"

The man wore black sunglasses, his unremarkable face completely expressionless. "What are you doing out in the rain?"

"I didn’t have an umbrella. I was on my way to get a taxi."

"Come with me." The man led her to his car and handed her a clean towel. "Dry yourself off."

"Thanks." Vivian took the towel and wiped the rain from her clothes. "When did you get back? What about your wife? Did she return with you?"

The air around the man grew heavy. "No. She wants to divorce me."

"What?" Vivian was stunned. "Why?"

"I’d like to know that myself."

"She didn’t give you a reason?"

"No. She just insists on getting a divorce."

Vivian was silent for a moment before asking, "So, what are you going to do?"

"What do you think I can do?" the man retorted.

Vivian gave a bitter smile. "Zachary Quinn, I can’t help you with that. Because I’m getting a divorce, too."

The man finally turned to look at her. "Why? Didn’t you already give your husband a chance?"

"I don’t love him." Vivian closed her eyes. Even if it was a lie, she had to drill the thought into her own head, as if it were the only way to convince herself. ’That’s right. I don’t love him. Not one bit.’
