Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Vivian, I Love You

"What did you say?" Jett Sterling suspected he had misheard. "Vivian, say that again."

Vivian Quinn slowly turned her head and looked directly into his eyes. "I don’t think we’re a good match. I want to break up."

Jett Sterling was stunned for a moment, then wheeled himself to the window. "Vivian, tell me, what on earth has happened?"

Vivian Quinn sat up and leaned against the headboard, saying seriously, "Before, I only knew you were rich. I didn’t know the specifics of your identity and background. Now that I do, I understand why your mother looks down on me. We really aren’t a good match, socially."

"Haven’t we already discussed this? Once I transfer my assets into your name, that won’t be a problem."

"What difference does it make if they’re in my name? The fundamental situation hasn’t changed."

"So you’re feeling insecure?" Jett Sterling frowned. "I don’t see you as an insecure person. You have your own brilliance. You have no reason to feel that way."

Vivian Quinn fought back her tears.

Jett Sterling was right. Before this, she had never felt insecure.

’She was The Phantom Healer. She had her pride and no reason to feel insecure.’

’But things are different now. She has a dark, shameful secret. She thought she’d given her first time to Jett Sterling, but she hadn’t. She doesn’t know who she slept with, or whose child she gave birth to!’

’It’s laughable, really. The great Phantom Healer, and she didn’t even know if she was pregnant—didn’t even know she’d given birth!’

’Rather than wait for Jett Sterling to find out the truth and be disgusted by her, it would be better to leave on her own and maintain her last shred of dignity!’

Vivian Quinn took a deep breath, suppressing the tears welling in her eyes, and said, "Jett Sterling, I grew up in the countryside. I’m used to being wild and free. This place is wonderful—beautiful and luxurious—but to me, it feels more like a cage. I don’t want to be trapped here, and I don’t want to force myself to be the Young Madam of the Sterling Family."

"Have I ever said I wanted to trap you here? Have I ever said I would force you to be the Young Madam of the Sterling Family?" Jett Sterling looked at her, confused. "Vivian, we’ve never talked about this before, but since we’re on the topic, let’s have a proper chat."

"I know you love your freedom. I’ve never wanted to trap you. Whatever kind of life you want, I’ll be there with you. It’s okay if you don’t like it here; we can leave. But now isn’t the right time. Just give me a little time. Once I’ve finished handling my current affairs, I’ll take you away."

Vivian Quinn was incredulous. "Where would you take me?"

"We can go wherever you want. If you don’t like being the Young Madam of the Sterling Family, I don’t have to be the young master of the Sterling Family either. We can run away together and live the life you want."

Vivian Quinn couldn’t control the turmoil in her heart, and tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes. "Why?"

"Because I love you." Jett Sterling took her hand. "Vivian, I love you. You can be upset with me, but please, just don’t say you want to break up with me again, okay? I’m not letting you go."

"No..." Vivian Quinn shook her head forcefully and shoved his hand away, choking out, "It’s not like that, Jett Sterling. You can’t love me, you can’t!"

"Why?" Jett Sterling looked at her. "Vivian, haven’t we always been fine? What on earth happened? Tell me."

Vivian Quinn raised her hands to cover her ears. "My head hurts so much. I want to be left alone."

"I’m not leaving until we get this cleared up today." The man stubbornly gripped her wrist. "Vivian, tell me, what’s wrong with you?"

"Stop pressuring me!" Vivian Quinn shoved him away forcefully, yelling through her tears, "I just feel so uncomfortable around you, so suffocated! I can’t breathe every day! I want to break up with you, I want to divorce you! Please, just grant me this, I’m begging you!"

"Vivian Quinn!" The man’s patience had run out, his handsome face tense. "You can be willful, you can throw a fit, and I’ll always indulge you and coax you. But I will not allow you to throw the word ’divorce’ around so lightly!"

"In the end, it’s because I’ve spoiled you too much, isn’t it? Do you have any idea that we’re already husband and wife? Do you think our marriage is child’s play, something you can just have when you want and throw away when you don’t?!"

"AHH!" Vivian Quinn covered her ears, screaming as she broke down. "Stop talking!"

Jett Sterling closed his eyes in frustration, his voice low. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be harsh with you, but Vivian, you’re being really willful."

Vivian Quinn buried her face in her knees and sobbed, completely breaking down.

"I’m sorry..." Jett Sterling reached out and gently stroked her hair. "I shouldn’t have been harsh with you. Please stop crying, okay?"

Vivian Quinn only cried harder.

She felt like Jett Sterling’s words were sharp knives, stabbing into her heart one by one, the pain so intense it was suffocating her.

’She was in so much pain. Her whole body ached.’

’He said he loves her. He said he’s willing to give up the Sterling Family for her. But how could the person she is now possibly be worthy of that?’

’No, it wasn’t that she wasn’t worthy now—she had never been worthy. She just hadn’t known the truth before.’

Suddenly, she hated Rachel Quinn with a hatred she had never felt before!

She hadn’t hated Rachel this much for stealing her parents’ love, or for taking Austin Grant. But now, she truly, deeply hated her!

Only now did she realize that, at some unknown point, Jett Sterling had come to live in her heart. She didn’t want to break up with him, and she certainly didn’t want to divorce him.

But fate was cruel. As she was now, there was no way she could stay by his side!

"Vivian, please stop crying. Say something, okay?"

Vivian Quinn slowly looked up, her vision blurred by tears. "Jett Sterling, I..."

She had just begun to speak when the world started to spin. Everything went black, and she lost consciousness.

"Vivian!"

Several doctors came to examine her, even drawing blood to send to the hospital for testing.

"Master Sterling." Easton Rivers knocked and entered the master bedroom to report. "The doctor called. He said the Young Madam likely fainted from being overwhelmed by grief. She just needs to rest and be observed for now; no medication is necessary yet."

"Overwhelmed by grief?" Jett Sterling frowned. "Did Joy Chase’s condition worsen?"

"I’ve already spoken with the hospital. They’ll notify me of any changes. I also just confirmed it myself—her condition is the same as always. It hasn’t worsened."

"Then why would Vivian be overwhelmed with grief?" Jett Sterling closed his eyes, his voice low. "Something must have happened yesterday. Investigate."

"Master Sterling, I already looked into it. The person following the Young Madam yesterday said she seemed very agitated after leaving the hospital. Oh, and she also met with Shane Shaw!"

"Shane Shaw..." The man slowly opened his eyes, a dark undercurrent swirling within them. "Go and do something for me..."

「...」

When Vivian Quinn woke up, it was already afternoon.

She had no strength in her body and didn’t want to get out of bed to face Jett Sterling. She just lay there, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Her phone suddenly rang. She struggled to pull herself together and answered the call. "Shane Shaw, what’s wrong?"

"Boss." Shane Shaw’s voice was somber. "I’m going abroad."

"Why so suddenly? Are you going on a trip?"

"No. My dad just told me someone from the Sterling Family called. They’re demanding that the Shaw Family send me abroad."
