Modern Cultivation : The Strongest Couple Bonded by Vampire System-Chapter 702: Soft Hearted
It wasn't the first time Rovan had seen someone hold hatred toward him.
But not like this.
In all those situations, he had always been the one in control.
Now, his life was in the woman's hands.
She might be beautiful, looking charming and gentle, but Rovan knew better than to underestimate her.
BAM!!
He quickly slammed his head against the floor.
"I'm sorry! I will do anything, please just don't kill me."
Beatrice was at a loss for words. She had heard that the main culprit was his uncle. She had expected him to be arrogant, but not this pathetic.
'Just what had Alex done to him?'

Meanwhile, in the room, Alex and Mingyue were watching what was happening through the building formation.
"You should have just castrated him," Mingyue said coldly.
She still remembered how he had tried to make a move on her.
Back in the cultivation world, before meeting Alex, if anyone tried to do that, she would cut them down.
Alex smirked. "For someone like that, he would just grow it back. Anyway, it seems Beatrice is really no good for our main goal. She's too naive."
Alex had left Rovan with Beatrice to observe her actions and personality.
Based on what he had seen so far, he concluded that she was soft-hearted.
"You're right. She's suited for managing business, but not for playing dirty. So should we start now?"
Mingyue asked as she slashed her sword through the air, practicing her movements.
"Not now. I want to get more information after I meet Rovan's uncle."
SWOOSH!!!
Mingyue slashed again, leaving a trace of a space cut in the air.
It lingered for a second before disappearing.
"Why are you bored already? Itching for a fight?" Alex asked with a chuckle.
"I vote that we just ambush the man now to get what we want."
Alex shook his head. He also wanted to do that, but they were not that strong yet.
"Just wait a few more days."
Back at the shop, Rovan still knelt on the floor with his forehead pressed down.
Beatrice looked at him for a long moment.
"Stand up," Beatrice said at last.
Rovan's body trembled.
"I said stand up," she repeated.
Rovan slowly lifted his head. His forehead was red, and his face looked pale.
He got to his feet in a clumsy rush, but he kept his head lowered and did not dare meet her eyes.
Beatrice crossed her arms.
"So your uncle is the one who scammed my father?"
Rovan swallowed hard. "I do not know the full details."
Beatrice's expression turned colder. "Do not play dumb with me."
"I am not," Rovan said quickly. "I really do not know everything. My uncle never told me things like that."
Beatrice stared at him. "Then what do you know?"
Rovan hesitated.
Beatrice took a step forward.
Rovan immediately flinched and almost backed away, but he forced himself to stay still.
"Answer properly," Beatrice said. "If you lie, I will tell Alex."
Rovan's face stiffened.
"I really do not know much," he said in a low voice. "But I heard some things."
Beatrice's eyes narrowed. "Like what?"
Rovan looked at the floor.
"He did that for a list…"
"What list?"
"I do not know the details," Rovan quickly added. "But it must be important. You should ask Master Alex for the details."
Beatrice did not speak. She froze for a second, then let out a sigh.
"Continue your work then."
She said that as she ignored him, then took a seat at the counter and went back to counting the supplies.
But her mind did not stay still.
'A list? What list? Our customers? That does not make sense.'
While she mulled it over, even considering asking Alex, Rovan also began to observe her.
He was surprised Beatrice did not do anything to him.
'Not even a slap? Was her hatred fake before?'
He could not understand it. If it were him, or anyone he knew, they would certainly take out their hatred on him.
They would know he was not directly involved, but at the very least, his connection to his uncle could be used as justification for them to vent.
Feeling his gaze, Beatrice looked at him. "What is it?"
Rovan looked back at the floor. "Nothing… it's nothing."
He moved to a different area, trying to avoid answering her.
Beatrice's expression turned colder. "If you want to say something, say it. What's with that?"
Rovan stayed silent, acting like he did not hear her words.
After all, what could he say? 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Why didn't she torture him? Why didn't she hurt him?
He felt he would be stupid to ask that, since it would be like challenging her to hurt him.
But minutes soon turned to an hour. Left alone with only the two of them, his curiosity kept growing.
That made him occasionally steal a glance at her, wondering what she was thinking.
Beatrice, who had tried to ignore it at first, finally got fed up.
"Why do you keep looking at me like that? If you like me, then forget it. There is no chance I will ever have a relationship with someone like you. If you have something to say, then say it already!"
"Nothing important, Miss Beatrice. I was just wondering what I should do now."
Rovan tried to deflect the topic.
"Do you think those look clean enough? Honestly, I do not even get why Alex asked you to clean here. Probably just to put you down."
She then put her finger on her chin, thinking of a better use for Rovan, then said, "I need someone to come with me to the slums. Get ready."
Rovan frowned, but nodded.
The slums on a planet at this level were not as bad as on others, but as the name suggested, they were not much different.
It was a place where the less fortunate gathered, whether criminals, gangsters, or even orphans.
Even with a perfect system and formations, some things still slipped through the net, or maybe they were allowed on purpose.
As they left the place, Alex looked through the formation at everything that was happening.
"What's she doing in the slums?" he mumbled.
"Is that important? That's her private life, just leave it. It's not like you cannot track Rovan if you need to. Better to just focus on our own problem."
Alex nodded. He still wanted to look for more information himself rather than just depend on Varyn's information.
"The virus. Someone from the nobility should be behind it, and I need to find out who."
Meanwhile, in another area, Varyn was kneeling on the ground, getting beaten by the family patriarch.
On the other side, sitting on a chair with his legs crossed, a man watched everything with a smile as if it were a show.
He swirled his glass, filled with thick red liquid.
Two sharp fangs protruded from his lips.
"That should be enough lecturing. What matters now is that we must find out who this Edward is. He seems to be the other one backing General Kael. If my source is right, he's related to the dragon race, and that will make things more complicated."
The patriarch quickly knelt down, not daring to look at the man's crimson eyes.
"Sovereign, everything has been prepared. Even if the dragon race joins in now, it will be too late."
"It should be, but you can never be too careful after all. You know what is at stake here, right?"
"Of course, Sovereign."
"Good. Just remember, no matter what, the plan must continue. Even if it costs us our lives."
"Yes, Sovereign."
