Chapter 73: Chapter 73: I Will Divorce Jett Sterling

"What did you say?" Vivian was shocked. "Someone from the Sterling Family?"

"Yeah, I suspect it’s Ian Sterling. I have no idea how I got on his bad side, but he’s trying to send me away..."

Vivian suddenly had a thought. "I’ll call you back later!"

She hung up, got out of bed, and went to knock on the study door.

"Come in." Jett Sterling’s deep, cold voice came from inside.

Vivian opened the door and went inside. "Jett Sterling, was it you who called the Shaw Family and told them to send Shane abroad?"

"It was me," the man admitted without hesitation.

"Why!" Vivian demanded. "What gives you the right to do that!"

"Do you really not know why?" Jett Sterling closed the file in his hands and looked up at her. "You met with him yesterday, and today you’re demanding a divorce. Isn’t it ridiculous for you to ask me why?"

Vivian closed her eyes. "My divorcing you has absolutely nothing to do with Shane Shaw. What right do you have to send him abroad?"

"The very fact that his existence is affecting my marriage gives me every right to send him away," the man enunciated. "Vivian, I can let you have your way with anything else, but our marriage is where I draw the line. I will not allow anyone to challenge that. Understand?"

"I told you, the divorce has nothing to do with him!"

"Then why don’t you explain to me why you suddenly want a divorce right after meeting him."

Vivian was at a loss for words and could only insist, "I can swear that I don’t have any of the romantic feelings for Shane you’re imagining!"

"You don’t, but what about him?" Jett Sterling swiveled the laptop on his desk toward her and played a video.

Vivian focused on the screen. It was the video from the other day at the Aethelgard University dorms. Rachel Quinn and Diana Davenport had come to cause trouble, and Shane Shaw had stepped in to protect her.

"Vivian, did you see the headline? ’Aethelgard University’s Messy Love Triangle: Shane Shaw Dumps Fiancée for Another Woman.’ And that’s not even mentioning how he’s always clinging to you. As your husband, what am I supposed to think, hmm?"

Vivian shook her head. "It’s not what you think!"

"I know that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the video taken down. But Vivian, as a man, I can’t tolerate someone like him being around you. Just because you’re not interested in him doesn’t mean he won’t fall for you!"

"Jett Sterling, how can I make you understand?"

"I don’t understand! If you don’t like him, why are you fighting with me over him?"

"I’m not fighting with you! I’m just trying to be rational about this!"

"When it comes to Shane Shaw, you’re the one in the wrong. How can you be rational?" Jett Sterling’s voice was low and frigid. "Vivian, this is my final word. Shane Shaw has to go, and you have to stay by my side. Otherwise, I’m capable of anything."

"So there’s no room for negotiation on this, is there?"

"That’s right."

"Fine." Vivian nodded. "You want to send Shane away, right? I’ll make it easy for you. I’ll go with him!"

"You dare!" The man flung his arm, and the laptop crashed to the floor. "If you dare take a single step out of Sycamore Bay, what happens to him won’t be as simple as going abroad. And remember, forget just Shane—killing the entire Shaw Family would be easier for me than squashing an ant. Do you understand me?"

Vivian was shaking with anger, but she knew she had no right to be mad at Jett Sterling. ’This whole thing started because of me. It’s because I can’t explain why I want a divorce that he’s misunderstood everything.’

Her heart ached for Shane, but it ached even more for Jett. The more her heart ached for them, the more she hated herself.

"I’m sorry..." Vivian closed her eyes, letting tears stream down her face.

Jett Sterling felt his heart being ripped to shreds. He let out a cold laugh. "You’re apologizing to me just for Shane? Vivian Quinn, you’ve really got some nerve!"

"That’s not it..." Vivian forced a bitter smile. "I’m apologizing for myself. This is all my fault. I’m so sorry."

"Vivian Quinn, that’s enough!" The man’s eyes were bloodshot as he practically roared, "You’re only apologizing because you want to keep Shane here! Well, I’m telling you, the more you act like this, the faster he’s getting the hell out of Aethelgard. You can forget about ever seeing him again!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

With that, Jett Sterling wheeled himself out of the room.

All the strength drained from Vivian’s body. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the floor.

After some time, Nanny Jenner came in. "Young Madam, why are you sitting on the floor? Please, get up. Mrs. Sterling is here and has asked to see you. You should go downstairs."

"Jett’s mother?"

"Yes."

"Where’s Jett?"

"Mr. Jett went out. He looked furious when he left. Did you two have a fight?"

Vivian didn’t elaborate. "I’ll be down in a moment."

"Very well."

Vivian went to the bathroom to splash some water on her face before heading downstairs.

"Ah!" Wendy Reeves shrieked when she saw her. "What’s the matter with you? You’re so pale, for a second I thought I’d seen a ghost!"

Vivian asked, "Mrs. Sterling, did you need something from me?"

"Can’t I come for a visit without a reason?" Wendy Reeves took a sip of her tea. "Jett designed this place himself, you know. He hired several internationally renowned architects to collaborate on its construction. To think it would all be wasted on you."

Vivian replied coolly, "Mrs. Sterling, if you’re only here to mock me, you can save your breath."

Wendy Reeves set her cup down, displeased. "Is that any way to speak to an elder? Did I say I was here to mock you?"

"Then what can I do for you, Mrs. Sterling?"

Wendy Reeves shot her a disdainful look and said flatly, "Everyone in the Sterling Family knows about Jett’s marriage now. I hear you were classmates with Ian Sterling. His birthday is in a few days. You’ll attend with me. It will serve as your formal introduction to the family."

Vivian was taken aback. "You want to take me to Ian’s birthday party?"

Wendy Reeves replied begrudgingly, "It’s not what I want, it’s what Jett wants. And he likes you. What can I do? I can’t let you drive a wedge between mother and son, can I? Vivian Quinn, consider yourself lucky."

Vivian pursed her lips. "I’m sorry, Mrs. Sterling, but I won’t be attending any such event with you."

Wendy Reeves’s brow furrowed. "What? You’re refusing? Vivian Quinn, do you have any idea what this means? My taking you to this party is my way of publicly acknowledging you as my daughter-in-law, and you’re turning it down?"

Vivian’s hands clenched the hem of her shirt. ’Before, I would have accepted in a heartbeat. I wouldn’t have cared how anyone looked at me; I would have stood proudly by Jett’s side.’

But now, she couldn’t.

"That’s right. I refuse." Vivian’s voice was quiet but firm, carrying an air of finality. "Mrs. Sterling, I know you don’t like me, and you don’t have to force yourself to. I’ll give you what you want. I’m going to divorce Jett."

"You..." Wendy Reeves’s face went white with rage. But in the next second, her eyes darted toward something behind Vivian. "Jett, you heard that, didn’t you?" she called out immediately. "It’s not me who disapproves of her! She’s the one who refused the invitation, and she’s the one who said she wants to divorce you!"
