Chapter 79: Fire Between Queens

Fire Between Queens

Selena Aurevale had just finished another exhausting day at the Aurevale Group headquarters.

The west side development zone project had erupted into pure chaos after the acquisition. Contracts overlapped like tangled wires. Permits were stalled. Investors demanded reassurance every hour. Financial restructuring reports stacked on her desk like a silent accusation.

Her office lights had once again been the last ones on in the entire building.

She was still reviewing land allocation documents, long black hair falling over one shoulder, blue eyes slightly reddened from fatigue, when her secretary rushed in without knocking.

"Miss Aurevale... something happened at Lunar Citadel."

Her pen froze.

Julian D’Aurelius had been the owner of Lunar Citadel.

A strange chill crept up her spine.

She opened the news feed immediately.

Police raid. Arrest. Investigation.

Her heart tightened.

She dialed Julian at once.

No answer.

Her fingers curled tighter around the phone.

She called Gary D’Aurelius instead.

"He left for the police station," Gary said calmly. But beneath that calm, she could hear tension.

So she didn’t hesitate.

She grabbed her coat and left.

------------

The West City Police Station was still bright with harsh fluorescent lights when she arrived.

And there he was.

Julian stood near the center of the office, looking casual as ever, but she could see the faint strain in his golden eyes.

Before he could react—

She stepped forward and hugged him.

Her embrace was firm but trembling.

"Are you okay?" she asked softly, voice filled with genuine concern.

Julian froze.

For a second, he forgot to breathe.

He felt the warmth of her body against his chest, the subtle tremor in her breath. Her long black hair brushed against his neck. Even through her fitted white blouse and tailored black skirt, he could feel her softness—her C-cup chest pressed lightly against him, her narrow waist beneath his palm when he awkwardly lifted his hand.

He slowly patted her back.

"I’m fine," he murmured.

When she pulled back slightly, her fingers were still resting on his shoulders. She searched his face carefully.

He offered a faint, reassuring smile.

"Nothing serious," Julian said calmly. "Just cooperating with Officer Bonds’ investigation."

[Nope, don’t come over here!!!]

(Not look me with those concerned eyes, my heart will melt.)

(No, no, my heart is not steel. Please don’t provoke the Dragon King any further. Look at his face.)

[Give me some space to survive, or this bastard will come at me tonight. ]

Out of the corner of his eye, he had already seen Evan’s expression.

Livid.

The air felt suffocating.

-----------

Selena heard every word.

Every ridiculous, panicked thought.

She followed his gaze and saw Evan’s gloomy, resentful face.

Her annoyance deepened.

Did he really think she cared about him?

What a lunatic.

Without hesitation, she hooked her arm around Julian’s.

"It’s fine," she said coolly. "Let’s go home."

Julian’s eyes widened.

[Damn it, you’re using this trick again? ]

[Don’t do this. ]

He could practically feel Evan’s murderous aura behind him.

At that moment, Evan’s fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white.

The woman he liked.

Standing there.

Hooking another man’s arm in front of him.

His chest burned.

What was she thinking?

Did she truly have no feelings for him?

That couldn’t be right.

Just as Julian was trying to gently extract his arm without igniting a war—

The office door opened again.

High heels clicked against the floor.

Another stunning beauty walked in.

Bianca De Dominicis.

Her long red hair flowed down her back like burning silk. She wore a fitted crimson blouse tucked into a high-waisted black pencil skirt that hugged her broad hips and thick thighs perfectly. The soft curve of her D-cup chest rose and fell slightly from hurried breathing.

She had rushed here without changing.

Seeing Julian standing safely—

Her tense expression instantly melted into a radiant smile.

She didn’t greet anyone.

She walked straight past everyone.

And hugged him.

Completely ignoring Evan.

Her body pressed against him firmly this time—warm, soft, confident. Her chest flattened slightly against his arm as she wrapped him tightly.

"Julian D’Aurelius, you’re, okay?" she said anxiously. "I heard the owner of Lunar Citadel was arrested. It scared me."

Julian stiffened.

The softness.

The warmth.

The scent of faint perfume mixed with urgency.

He swallowed.

He forced himself to gently pat her back.

"I’m fine," he said with a small smile. "Really."

She lingered for a moment longer before finally pulling back.

And then—

She noticed Selena.

Noticed Selena holding his arm.

Her smile paused.

Selena’s grip tightened slightly.

Bianca’s eyes sharpened.

Selena knew who she was.

Julian’s ex.

Women were always sensitive about exes.

Especially when the other woman was beautiful.

And Bianca was undeniably beautiful.

The air in the room dropped several degrees.

Bianca was the first to attack.

She let out a faint laugh.

"Oh? Isn’t this Miss Aurevale? The number one ice beauty of Valemont suddenly so proactive?" Her eyes flicked to their linked arms. "I thought you didn’t like men."

Selena didn’t even blink.

"What does that have to do with you?"

Her voice was calm—but her fingers tightened around Julian’s arm.

Julian felt like he was standing in the center of a battlefield.

[Damn it, what are you doing? ]

His inner voice practically screamed.

He could feel Bianca’s chest warmth still lingering against him.

He could feel Selena’s arm pressing against his side.

Behind him, Evan looked like he might explode.

This wasn’t a police station anymore.

It was a powder keg.

And he was the match in the middle.

He swallowed.

Somewhere deep down—

He realized something terrifying.

This wasn’t just chaos.

This was fate twisting itself apart.
