Villain of Fate: The Tyrant System-Chapter 78: Cracks in the Script
Cracks in the Script
Julian walked past Evan on his way out.
For half a second, their shoulders almost brushed.
The distance between them was less than an inch—close enough to feel each other’s breath, close enough to sense the hostility vibrating beneath the surface.
Evan’s jaw tightened.
Something in his chest twisted.
Charlotte’s tone toward him had been cold—almost hostile.
But toward Julian?
Gentler.
Even protective.
That wasn’t how this was supposed to go.
His fingers curled at his sides.
"Officer Bonds," he suddenly said sharply, voice rising, "I want you to investigate Young Master D’Aurelius again. He’s hiding something. You need to look into him."
The office froze.
Julian stopped mid-stride.
Charlotte’s eyes turned icy.
She could hear it—Julian’s inner voice still faintly echoing in her mind, mocking, teasing... but beneath that was clarity. No panic. No guilt.
And now this man—Evan—was trying to shift the board.
Trying to make her doubt.
Trying to control the direction of the game.
Her spine straightened.
"You don’t tell me what to do," she said, her voice suddenly sharp and elevated. The room seemed to vibrate with it. "I decide who is investigated and who isn’t. I am a police officer. I follow the law—not you."
Her tone cut clean and precise.
Evan blinked.
He hadn’t expected resistance that strong.
Julian slowly turned around.
Golden eyes steady. Lips curved faintly.
He didn’t say anything.
But his presence lingered.
Charlotte continued, her gaze unwavering. "Bear is the current legal representative and person in charge of Lunar Citadel. That is why he was arrested."
She stepped closer to Evan.
"Since you just admitted you’re his boss, that makes the hotel your property."
A beat.
"Fine. You should also prepare to be investigated."
Evan’s face turned an unpleasant shade of green.
What kind of logic was this?
The legal representative of Bear Group wasn’t him. The shareholders weren’t publicly linked to him.
He had built layers precisely to avoid this.
And now she was threatening to drag him in directly?
If he hadn’t already chosen her as a future member of his harem—
If he didn’t see her as someone destined to stand beside him—
He might have taught her a lesson right here.
In his world, his woman only needed to obey.
What use was integrity?
Julian, watching quietly, almost laughed.
[What the hell? Is this plot going off track?]
[Charlotte seems to dislike him?]
[No... by now Evan should’ve already won her favor.]
[He staged that whole "hero saves people" scene, breaking his own arm to look righteous.]
[He even bought a bag of medicine and claimed he was helping an elderly person deliver it.]
[With those two tricks, she should be halfway in love already.]
[Haha... the script must’ve collapsed again.]
[Officer Bonds, hurry up and arrest him.]
[Men like him belong in prison. It’d be a shame if he didn’t go in.]
Julian leaned casually against the wall like he was eating popcorn at a live performance.
He even tilted his head, muttering lightly, "Some people really think they’re the center of the universe."
Evan’s eyes snapped toward him.
"Say that again."
Julian smiled lazily. "I said... it’s interesting how confident some people are."
Charlotte’s eyes darkened.
So even that first encounter had been orchestrated?
The medicine.
The staged heroics.
Every detail calculated?
A cold feeling spread through her chest.
This man... was disgusting.
Evan forced his tone calm again.
"Officer Bonds, I’m willing to cooperate with your investigation. The innocent have nothing to fear."
"But the person you should really investigate is this Young Master D’Aurelius. I suspect he maliciously sold the hotel at a low price to frame my friend."
"The Lunar Citadel is valued at around 20 billion, but he sold it for 5 billion. That alone is suspicious."
He pointed at Julian righteously.
Julian rolled his eyes slightly.
[Damn, can you have some shame?]
[If it weren’t for you sending Bear to mess up my hotel, would I have sold it so cheaply?]
[Speaking of which, Bear framing me with murder? You’re at least 89% responsible.]
He was about to retort when Charlotte cut him off.
"Can’t someone simply have money?" she said calmly. "He bought the hotel to propose to his girlfriend."
The words landed like a slap.
Evan trembled slightly.
He remembered that day. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
The humiliation.
The public rejection.
Charlotte snorted softly, refusing to waste more words on him.
After hearing his inner thoughts for so long, she had no doubt left.
If he were connected to the murder case, she would personally put the cuffs on him.
She turned toward Julian.
Her voice softened noticeably.
"Julian, thank you for cooperating with the investigation today. It’s late. You should go home and rest."
"I’ll treat you to a meal next time."
Julian blinked.
"Huh?"
[What the hell is going on? Why are you suddenly so gentle?]
[Stop. Don’t be nice to me.]
[This isn’t like you. Where’s your temper?]
He looked genuinely bewildered.
Charlotte’s lips curved just a little.
He had trusted her enough to send those clues anonymously.
He had handed her the threads to unravel this case.
That meant something.
Trust felt... good.
Evan’s forehead veins bulged.
She was smiling at him.
Smiling.
And treating him like an enemy.
His eyes burned with resentment as he stared at Julian.
At that moment—
The office door swung open.
A presence entered that shifted the entire atmosphere.
Selene Aurevale.
She walked in with quiet elegance, long black hair cascading over her shoulders like silk under the fluorescent lights. Her deep blue eyes were calm but alert.
She wore a fitted cream blouse tucked into a tailored dark skirt that hugged her narrow waist and curved naturally over her hips. The fabric traced the gentle line of her figure without vulgarity—refined, poised, undeniably feminine. Her C-cup chest rose slightly with controlled breaths, and her long legs moved with soft confidence.
Two bodyguards and a lawyer followed behind her.
The room fell silent.
Evan’s anger dissolved instantly.
Warmth flooded his chest.
This girl—always claiming she wanted distance from him—
Yet when he was in trouble, she came.
He smiled wickedly.
"Selena, you came—"
"Are you alright?"
Before he could finish, Selene walked straight past him.
Past.
Him.
She stopped in front of Julian.
Her eyes softened instantly.
Without hesitation, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him.
Julian’s eyes widened.
Her embrace was firm but trembling.
"Are you okay?" she asked softly, voice filled with genuine concern.
Julian froze for a second.
He could feel the warmth of her body, the subtle tremor in her breath.
He slowly lifted his hands and patted her back awkwardly.
"I’m fine," he murmured.
Across the room—
Evan stood frozen.
Smile shattered.
The script had truly broken.
