Chapter 446: I Cannot Command Love, Brother

[KAWAI]

"I never thought our kids could control an army with just a shared faint heartbeat. Today was just on its level," Zaffuto admitted, his tone filled with disbelief and the kind of hair that no one could truly put to words. Today had been unreal even for both of them.

It was getting more obvious just how insane it could get.

"A love like that could command the kind of things that we haven’t even experienced yet in our histories in war. That is the kind of love that makes me foolish or brave, and even sometimes, like today, it was both.

"At this point, gods help us all," Sadako said softly as he watched Kosta and Tamiko walk playfully back to the palace. The warriors had separated now and had gone home. The only people who were left on the road were the royals of Kawai.

Well, Danny was ahead with the council members, while Kosta was with Tamiko just ahead of the king and lord Sadako. They could be seen even more clearly now, and maybe Sadako was really right.

This was the kind of madness that even the gods wouldn’t be able to fully understand.

"The warriors are already whispering the kids’ names like a prophecy of the old times. Kaito, the prince who bled for his warrior and love. Konstantin, the chief who would burn the world for his beloved.

"It’s just a matter of time before the entire realm eats up the tales of the kids we have," King Zaffuto said almost bitterly, like the thought of losing Tamiko or even Kosta was not something he wanted to ever deal with again.

Yet deep down, he knew that Gabriel had been so humiliated, and the young wolf wouldn’t hesitate to come back for vengeance. It was only right that he did so after his father was turned into a human, bound to die in a few years because of his betrayal.

It was not something that the king was worried too much about, but he wondered what the future looked like for the happy couple ahead of them. Oh, but the king wanted them to always be happy.

He wanted them to always wear smiles and have the best time of their lives. He wanted them to never have to worry about anything because they deserved it. After all that they had gone through, peace was all that they needed.

"Won’t it be a dangerous tale for them, though? That kind of dedicated love story doesn’t just fade with time. It manifests in different ways, and right now, there isn’t so much that we can go with to defend them.

"How are we to protect them from a story that they didn’t seem to care about right now?" Sadako asked, his last statement coming off bitterly, too, like the thought of a battlefield with the kids was upsetting.

He wanted the best for the two love birds, but that was more than just a work in progress.

It was like an impossible milestone, yet no one would ever truly understand what the stakes would be like for them. This was doom in its own way, and now one would fully be able to comprehend what it was about until the end, probably.

The king stayed silent for a moment. He didn’t have Ana see that could make his brother feel better, because honestly, this time, he didn’t know if there was anything that could prepare them for the madness on the battlefield. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

It was one thing to know by now that Tamiko and Kosta would die for each other, but it was another for the parents to watch them and not be able to do anything.

That kind of shit hurt because this was not how parenting was supposed to be, but then it wasn’t like it was a waste of shit for them, or was it?

Hell, the king himself could shake the way he felt when he saw his son bleed onto the battlefield and the way that Kosta had growled out so painfully.

He couldn’t shake the way that the Lycan chief had been broken as he tried to think of a way that would save the prince fast because there wasn’t much that he could have done, even though he was the prince’s Erasthai.

It had been a difficult watch.

"I’m proud of them, but even that won’t be able to save them from what’s coming, Sadako," the king said, his voice shaking like the mere thought of the future was a horror that he wasn’t ever ready for just yet.

But surely, he was the king, and he had the power to control life and death. His son, too. So, what was so hard about being the father of a son who was exactly like him?

"Fear won’t either. You’ve led armies, brother, but even you know that this kind of love is not something that anyone can control," Sadako said.

He pointed towards the two lovebirds ahead of them, oblivious to the stress their guardians were having at the moment. But perhaps that was the beauty of having a guardian, someone who would be able to shoulder the weight even if just for a while.

It wasn’t as complicated this time, right?

"That’s what honestly terrifies me. I cannot command love, brother. I won’t be able to shield them from the cost of their love. And me being proud of them won’t even be armor enough for them," the king sighed sharply.

He hated what was happening and how it could impact them.

He even understood that this was the kind of love he couldn’t play with.

He wouldn’t be able to get shit from it, not to mention the fact that Tamiko had already made sure his father would protect Kosta for as long as Kosta lived, if ever something happened to Tamiko along the way.

It wasn’t what every father wanted to hear from their son, but what choice did the mad king have?

"Then there’s Yilena too," King Zaffuto sighed, frustratedly.

Life wasn’t always supposed to be this complicated.

It was like they were running after happiness, but the bastard was way faster than they would ever be. A life of conditions and a sanity that couldn’t even be warranted was a hell on its own.

It was the worst kind of shit that anyone would ever be forced to be a part of, yet here they were.

"The ultimatum," Sadako said grimly, his protective nature making a show in his pheromones. And Zaffuto didn’t fight him. They both knew what the stakes were for the kids ahead of them.

"It still hangs over their heads like a blade. Happiness is the one thing that they aren’t able to achieve, even if it is just for a moment. And it’s not something that I want to watch from the sidelines, Sadako.

"They’re both carrying the weight of their love on their shoulders, not willing to let anyone see how heavy it all weighs on them. It’s breaking them from the inside," King Zaffuto said.

Lord Sadako knew exactly what the king was talking about.

They had all seen it on the battlefield.
