Chapter 293: Sven

Sven was his name.

Born and raised in a secluded forest somewhere in this world, Sven had always thought his homeland was far too small and restricted for his taste. Not that he hated his kind, nor loathed the decision his ancestor had taken. However, for an adventurous person like him, he wanted to travel the world at least once.

That was why after countless attempts to leave his homeland and learning how to maneuver a dugout canoe properly without having to swim back, he finally landed on the first land he first set foot on that was far away from his homeland. For someone who had always been in the wild, one could imagine his enthusiasm for exploring the world.

And Sven just did just that.

According to him, it had been a year since then before he stumbled into this dilemma, which, to my dismay, he considered a "new adventure."

How he ended up in this lounging room where I was sitting while face-palming, listening to his tale, was because Raoul brought him to me at my behest. But how he met Lucien and his entourage was entirely a different story than I expected.

Apparently, Lucien, who was on his way back after his successful conquest, found lounging in this small town for the night. As they enjoyed a mug of booze, looking for some kind of relief from their arduous journey in the small tavern in the area, they encountered the drunken wild werewolf living the time of his life.

It was obvious what happened next, even if I didn’t detail it. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Sven couldn’t even remember everything since he was far too intoxicated in celebration of the fiftieth country he set foot on. All he could remember was having a confrontation with Lucien’s men which led to an altercation.

In the end, he passed out because of the "beatings" and the booze in his system. The next thing he knew, he was already bound, but since he knew he was inside a carriage, Sven thought he would need some free ride to his next destination. The reason he let Raoul and his people take him with them while everyone was distracted.

Now here I was, listening to all the nonsense he was spewing, face-palming while my head throb.

’This is a mistake,’ I thought, hearing him praise my beauty to the heavens just so I could give him free lounging for a few days. ’Should I take back the reward I gave to Raoul? I think this is karma. Why is that damn Lucien so lucky? Just when I thought I got one step ahead of him... not knowing that step would cost me ten steps back.’

"That’s the story of my life!" Sven clapped, finally ending his seemingly endless stories, which he said he would write a book to share with everyone back in his home. "So! Ahem! Please let this humble one stay in your home for only a couple of days. I will only rewrite my journal since I lost it."

I peeked one of my eyes at the man sitting across from me, only to see him bowing politely with his hands on his lap. I had seen this gesture being done in another country in the far east. Now he was mimicking it.

"Do you have any idea what sort of place you’re currently standing in is?" I asked helplessly.

Sven smiled, blinking his eyes almost innocently. He didn’t know.

"You’re in the Cross Kingdom, a land of vampires, and this very castle where we are right now is the impregnable fortress of the Duke of Southcross. In this kingdom, if you asked anyone who is the most vicious person they had known or heard, even the common people in the duchy will only say one name: Lord Octavian Highmore, the duke and the owner of this very land," I explained since he didn’t know a thing about who he met in the tavern and captured him, who abducted him, and the place he landed to.

"In other words, this place is not a place for a werewolf such as yourself. Even the members of the royal family or anyone can enter this place without formal request or invitation. This is not a place where you’d want to stay, but a place you should leave right this instance," I continued, stressing my words as I straightened my back, eyes on him. "I mean it. If money is what you need, I’ll give you enough for you to find an inn for the night, since I already used your situation to give Lucien a problem."

To my relief, Sven simply pursed his lips and nodded in understanding. I just wanted him to leave, even if it meant giving him money and ending this dilemma. Shelling out money to correct this mistake was worth it than putting up with his nonstop chattering.

"Alright," he agreed. "You’re so kind to give me money. Heh..."

My already dead expression died for the umpteenth time today. "I’m not kind. I’m giving you money in exchange for being my tool to cause trouble to my brother."

"Alright, alright." His brows rose as he raised his hands in surrender, rolling his eyes. "I’m just amazed that in every place I go to, I learn one or two things every day! Who would have thought getting abducted can generate money? If this happened in our homeland, you’ll hear everyone howling and before you know it, someone’s body is already disintegrated."

"..."

My mouth opened and closed, but I chose to ignore his last remarks. This conversation wasn’t worth prolonging anymore.

"Lisha," I called, knowing my trusted maid, who was just right outside the sitting room, could hear me. "Bring me golds that are enough for a traveler to survive the entire year."

His eyes went round at my request. "One year’s worth?"

"A year’s worth is all your services’ worth. Don’t be greedy."

"What? I mean, isn’t that too much?" he gasped, and once again, he rendered me speechless. "Hey! I didn’t want to rip you off! You don’t have to force yourself! It’d be in my conscience if you give everything to me!"

"..."

’I don’t like him... that’s for sure.’
