Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 425 - 423 Capturing the Ghost_1
Arakawa District, Higashi-Ogu Gochome.
Yuzuki Suzuko personally oversaw the outside, although this was originally the responsibility of the special task force.
However, out of all the special agents, Jack only trusted Emily and Morimoto Chiyoda for their abilities. He didn’t have much confidence in the abilities of the rest.
Therefore, Yuzuki Suzuko, who was third in Jack’s esteem, became the best candidate for surveillance here.
She stationed herself a hundred meters from the house, standing in front of a second-story window, watching the place from afar with binoculars.
Arakawa Police Station officers were around the mansion, and an SAT team was on standby at all times. Ten elite CIA agents were also present, awaiting her commands.
If anyone else entered the mansion, they would not need to intervene. But if other organizations like the KGB, MI6, Mossad, and so forth should try, they would need to act decisively to prevent them from entering the mansion.
The difference between agents and ordinary people was something professionals could discern.
Yuzuki Suzuko kept watch through her binoculars and noticed two figures, one tall and one short, appear on the street. By their looks and dress, neither appeared to be very old.
There was something familiar about the young man to Yuzuki Suzuko. After a brief recollection, she realized he was the contestant who had competed against Amat for a place in the final eight in the Earth’s Strongest Martial Arts Tournament. Having been there in person, she was well aware of the young man’s combat strength.
A date, maybe? Yuzuki Suzuko thought to herself, then picked up the walkie-talkie and said, "First and Second Teams, prepare to attack on my command."
To ensure nothing went wrong, she still had to take defensive measures to prevent the Ghost inside the mansion from being taken away by anyone. Although the likelihood of a Ghost being taken away was small, she couldn’t afford not to guard against that slim chance.
The results of yesterday’s vacuum cleaner inspection had come in; it was an internal wiring issue. But the vacuums provided to the SAT team had all been checked and were one hundred percent reliable. The sudden malfunction while attempting to vacuum a Ghost suggested that Ghosts could likely affect electrical devices.
The R&D team was contemplating how to counteract this. Until they found a solution, this mansion had to be closely guarded.
Yuzuki Suzuko was not the least impatient with her surveillance task. In her eyes, as long as it was during work hours, any task was worth the patience. Outside of work hours, that was another story. Even a document fallen to the ground would not merit a second glance from Yuzuki Suzuko.
She kept her gaze on the mansion.
Before long, the door of the mansion swung open, and from within the white whirlwind, two stark-naked figures were flung out.
「...」
"WAH!" Yoshikawa Sayuri screamed. She felt dizzy from the swirling wind as she was thrown into the air, bracing herself for the pain of landing.
THUD. But it didn’t really hurt?
Yoshikawa Sayuri was puzzled. Sitting up, she found herself in a W-sit. She felt beneath her; the floor seemed fleshy?
Looking down, she discovered she was atop Hojo Tetsuji’s sturdy abs.
Hojo Tetsuji looked up and said, "Yoshikawa, are you okay?"
"I’m fine, thanks to Hojo-kun," Yoshikawa Sayuri replied with a smile. Then, suddenly realizing their situation, her face turned red, and she let out a yelp, unsure what to cover with her hands.
Hojo Tetsuji also caught on, his face blushing as he hastily stood up, almost without thinking. He yanked off the mansion’s sliding door and placed it between himself and Yoshikawa Sayuri. "You, um, use this to cover yourself for now."
After stammering out these words, Hojo Tetsuji clenched his fists, his face furious. "That damned Ghost! I’m going to beat it to death!"
"Eh, Hojo-kun, Ghosts are already dead. Don’t be rash," Yoshikawa Sayuri said just as the door was placed in her hands.
Hojo Tetsuji stormed back into the mansion. He wasn’t afraid of so-called Ghosts, fixated only on retrieving Yoshikawa Sayuri’s clothes and his own.
"Bastard, come out!" he shouted, smashing the entryway’s floor with a punch. He charged through the house like an overbearing demolition crew, starting to destroy things.
「...」
Through her binoculars, Yuzuki Suzuko noticed that something was amiss and quickly said, "Hurry, First and Second Teams, move in! He’s not an enemy, but if necessary, stop his destructive actions. Bring two extra sets of clothes—one for a female officer to hand to the girl behind the door, and one for the man."
As a secretary, she was always meticulous.
The concealed SAT and police officers immediately rushed out.
A female officer raced to Yoshikawa Sayuri first, presenting the clothes with a smile. "Please wait over here for now."
At that moment, Yoshikawa Sayuri’s future goal became clear to her: she wanted to become like the shining example of the officer before her. And someday, she wanted to appear before those in need, speaking with the same gentle voice and saying such cool lines.
The rest of the team hastened into the mansion, some carrying vacuum cleaners. Even if the Ghosts could cause a short circuit in the vacuum cleaners, rendering them ineffective, the vacuums could still trap the Ghosts to some extent, buying time for an escape.
The two teams barged in.
The floors, walls, and most of the doors had been thoroughly smashed by Hojo Tetsuji. The ground floor was ruined, and a rumbling noise came from the second floor.
They rushed upstairs and witnessed an astonishing scene in the hallway. Hojo Tetsuji was continuously dispersing the Ghost with his fists, engaged in an intense struggle against the powerful, gloomy wind the Ghost had become.
Because Hojo Tetsuji was the last person the Ghost from the Book of Destiny had thrown out, the Ghost lost Aozawa’s blessing of powerful third-day luck after Hojo Tetsuji was ejected.
Reliant on just its wind, it was already very difficult for the Ghost to withstand Hojo Tetsuji’s fierce punches, let alone sweep anyone up again. However, Hojo Tetsuji’s punches also couldn’t harm the Ghost, resulting in a stalemate in the corridor.
"Ms. Yuzuki, what should we do?" the team leader, standing on the stairs, asked through the walkie-talkie.
Yuzuki Suzuko gave a swift order, "Try capturing the Ghost with a vacuum cleaner."
VRMM VRMM! The high-powered vacuum cleaner roared to life like a motorcycle engine, making a loud noise.
Three SAT members aimed the suction hose at the white mist in the air, sucking the floaty white fog into the machine. The white mist disappeared, and when the vacuum cleaner was shut off, it had suffered no ill effects.
"Ms. Yuzuki, we’ve captured the Ghost in the vacuum cleaner!" the team leader sounded somewhat excited.
Hojo Tetsuji stopped swinging his fists and turned around. "Hey, who are you guys?"
"We’re the police," one of them replied, tossing him a set of clothes.
"Oh." Hojo Tetsuji swallowed, feeling a pang of guilt. He still remembered the young lady’s warning: if he were caught and thrown in jail, by the time he got out, Yoshikawa Sayuri’s child would be old enough to be running errands like fetching soy sauce.
This is the Ghost’s house, they can’t possibly ask me to compensate for it, right? he thought, then inquired with some concern, "This is the Ghost’s house. You can’t possibly ask me to pay for damages, right?"
One SAT member laughed. "Don’t worry, you did a great job this time. Have you considered joining us?"
"No, I just want to be a manga artist."
"You guys stay on standby inside the mansion."
Yuzuki Suzuko issued orders quickly and approached the location. Then, she remembered to call Jack. "Hello, Director, the Ghost has been captured. It’s possible the destruction of the building’s interior weakened it. This time, the vacuum cleaner isn’t broken."
"What?! I’ll send people to support you immediately!"
Jack was overjoyed. This was the first living Low-Level Demon captured by humans. Its value far exceeded that of dead Monster corpses.
He immediately phoned Okayama Buji from the special task force, instructing him to personally lead a team to protect the Ghost.
Then he quickly called John, who had become the Director of the CIA.
"Hello, Director," Jack said, "we’ve successfully captured the Ghost in Higashi-Ogu Gochome. Which research institute should I send it to?"
"What?!" On hearing the news, John was ecstatic. He sat up in bed. "Wait, I’ll report to the President right away to see how it should be handled."
The decision on where to send the captured Ghost had always been inconclusive among those on Air Force One. The debate was fierce: transport it to the US mainland or keep it at the Takamagahara research facilities. This was because the Ghost was a living Low-Level Demon, not a dead corpse.
「...」
「Air Force One.」
Nett answered John’s call. After understanding the details, he hung up and rubbed his temples.
A staffer continued to report, "David has been elected by a large majority. We just need to wait for the absentee ballots to arrive to announce him as the Mayor of New York City. Your declining approval ratings have risen sharply."
If David secured over fifty percent of the votes in the first round, he could defeat the other candidates directly, becoming the mayor without needing a second round of voting.
"I know," Nett said. "Call the Secretary of State in."
Nett decided to consult with him on whether to keep the Ghost in Japan or transport it to the United States. The hardest part of this decision was that there were compelling reasons to support either choice.
Choosing the US mainland was natural because experiments conducted there would be the most secure and confidential. Leaving it at the Takamagahara research institute, however, carried an additional risk of leaks. But the advantages of keeping it in Japan included proximity, allowing for immediate research, and avoiding potential accidents during transport.
Nett was torn between the two options. He needed to hear the Secretary of State’s opinion.
The Secretary of State soon arrived, his face full of respect. "Mr. President, what can I do for you?"
"The Ghost has been captured by the CIA," Nett explained. "John asked me whether to transport it back to the United States or to choose the lab in Takamagahara. We need to make a decision quickly."
The Secretary of State thought for a moment and said, "Mr. President, I think it’s better to leave it at the Takamagahara research lab."
"If that’s the case, then let’s keep it there," Nett nodded.
He had called the Secretary of State here precisely to have him voice this answer. If the opposition questioned him later, he could say it was the Secretary of State’s recommendation, not his own. Calling the Secretary of State here already indicated his own stance. However, as long as he didn’t voice the decision himself, he wouldn’t be held responsible for any future issues.
The Secretary of State was well aware of this maneuver but had no choice but to take the blame for the President. After all, he was just the Secretary of State.
