Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Obvious White Lotus

Cecilia Vaughn’s body swayed slightly, a glint of viciousness flashing in her watery eyes. Even when she was naked, he remained indifferent, yet he could flirt with Vera Yves in the ancestral hall!

Could it be that he’s really fallen in love with Vera Yves?

Impossible! Vera Yves had schemed her way into his bed, even used a child to force him into marriage. How could someone as proud as him fall in love with such a woman?

Cecilia took another long, hard look at the two of them before turning to leave with her belongings.

Winston Valentine watched her face flush with anger, momentarily lost in thought.

Vera Yves finally pulled away from Winston Valentine’s embrace, wanting to leave. Winston grabbed her again, returning to his cold and distant demeanor, "You haven’t finished applying the medication."

Vera withdrew her hand, Winston kneeled back on the prayer mat, and Vera quickly finished applying the ointment before hurriedly leaving.

That night, Vera didn’t sleep well; she only fell asleep near dawn. When she opened her eyes in the morning, Winston lay beside her, his face unnaturally flushed.

When did he come back?

Vera touched his forehead and found he had a fever.

Vera tried to unbutton his shirt, but he held her hand, eyes still closed. Vera struggled a bit, "I want to see your wound."

Winston released her and turned over, "It’s not fatal."

Vera helped him take off his shirt. Although ointment had been applied, the wound was still swollen.

Vera first cleaned his wound, reapplied the ointment, then performed some acupuncture to release some of his blood.

Winston lay in a groggy, feverish haze, always hearing her footsteps coming and going, something wiping over him, until finally, her cool little hand pressed against his forehead. She breathed a sigh of relief, "The fever’s down."

Winston opened his eyes, seeing her slightly weary face, and couldn’t help but hold her hand in his palm.

Vera looked at him puzzled, "Are you uncomfortable somewhere?"

Her voice was as gentle as a breeze.

Winston pulled her onto the bed, holding her from behind. His voice was hoarse, "Stay with me a while."

Vera struggled a bit, "It’s three in the afternoon now."

"Your pacing is disturbing my peace."

Vera felt a bit wronged. Wasn’t she just caring for him, yet he found her annoying?

"Then I’ll go downstairs to accompany Grandma."

Winston held her in his embrace, "Be quiet, sleep."

Vera struggled again.

"Move again, and I’ll kiss you."

Vera obediently dared not move again.

The warm, comfortable sunlight spilled through the window onto both of them. Noticing the man’s breathing growing deeper behind her, Vera’s tense body finally relaxed, and she closed her eyes.

She’d only slept four hours the previous night and had spent half the day taking care of him; she was indeed tired.

Cecilia had been worried about Winston. Seeing the maid bring medicine to his bedroom, she intercepted it. When she opened the door, she saw the two of them nestled on the bed together.

Cecilia’s worry turned to anger, Vera Yves, it’s you again! Don’t think you can take him from me!

The next day, images of Luke Shaw embracing women at a nightclub were reported in the media.

Though Luke Shaw wasn’t a significant figure, the widespread media coverage made him a notorious scoundrel, and the wedding with Cecilia was indefinitely postponed.

Rumors began circulating in high society that Winston Valentine was still infatuated with Cecilia, unwilling to let her marry and even orchestrated a plan to ruin her boyfriend.

Vera Yves also became the subject of everyone’s discussion.

People even started placing bets on how long it would be before Winston threw her out.

Linda Young invited Vera Yves for a shopping trip, "Does Winston Valentine really not allow Cecilia to marry?"

Vera corrected her, "He doesn’t allow Cecilia to marry Luke Shaw."

"What’s the difference?" Linda seethed, "He’s already a married man, why does he care if Cecilia marries or not? What, does he really want to keep Cecilia outside and enjoy it all?"

Vera felt a bitter taste in her heart; he wouldn’t bear to keep Cecilia out, he wouldn’t allow her to suffer any grievances.

"Bastard!" Linda cursed, "I think he’s blind, having such a good wife as you, yet tangling with Cecilia again and again!"

Linda scolded Winston Valentine with her for several hours before leaving after a phone call.

Vera went to get her car, unexpectedly running into Luke Shaw on the road.

"Mrs. Valentine, what a coincidence. I’ve called you previously, but you didn’t answer; I actually wanted to apologize to you."

Vera’s attitude was cold, "I don’t need your apology."

Luke Shaw’s smile faded slightly, "Mrs. Valentine, there’s no need to be so aloof. I actually have something to discuss with you."

Vera turned to leave, "I have nothing to say to you."

Luke Shaw quickly blocked her path, speaking leisurely, "Actually, I consulted Old Mr. Yves for a medical appointment when I was younger. I have a high regard for his skills. I feel that those incidents back then, someone was framing him, don’t you think so too, Mrs. Valentine?"

Vera looked at him with a grave expression, "What exactly do you want to say?"

"I have some clues..."

Vera didn’t want to listen to his nonsense and was about to leave when Luke suddenly said, "You should know Simon Warren, right? I came across him recently while purchasing medicine, and the clues are with him."

Vera’s eyes darkened.

Seeing her expression soften, Luke lamented, "Because of those rumors, Cecilia now avoids me. I heard Old Mrs. Valentine plans to hold a banquet for her; as long as Mrs. Valentine can find a way to let me in and talk to her, I’ll give you the clues."

Luke smiled and handed her his business card, "This is a very simple matter for Mrs. Valentine."

Seeing Vera reluctant to accept, Luke put the card in her chest pocket, then left, satisfied.

Vera drove to the clinic, copied a few pages of medical records, but Luke’s words hovered in her mind from time to time.

Simon Warren was the last apprentice Grandpa took. He found Grandpa through an apprenticeship path, studying with him for nearly ten years.

After he left the clinic, not long after, the clinic encountered trouble. She had tried to contact Simon Warren, but it was as if he had vanished from the world.

As night fell, Vera took out Luke Shaw’s business card and called him.

With Luke Shaw proving unreliable, Old Mrs. Valentine indeed organized a banquet, inviting all unmarried young men from Imperia’s high society, determined not to rest until Cecilia was married off.

The banquet was held at the most luxurious hotel in Imperia.

Zoe Monroe was also invited. She wore a pale purple organza ball gown and swayed her slender waist as she approached Vera Yves, "Vera, which one is Cecilia Vaughn?"

Wearing a pure white pearl evening gown, Cecilia stood alongside Winston Valentine, chatting with several people.

Following her line of sight, Zoe saw Cecilia and clicked her tongue, "What taste does your husband have? Compared to you, this woman has no figure, no looks! Just like that Jane Shea, you can tell they’re white lotus fakes at a glance!"

Vera’s eyes dimmed a bit; sometimes, timing matters for a person to show up.

Someone came over to greet Vera, who raised her glass and chatted gracefully, emanating maturity and elegance with every gesture.

Zoe watched for a while and couldn’t help but say, "Vera, you’re so different from before!"
