To Byul (Omegaverse)-Chapter 50: This was a special place in Kang-woo’s heart, no doubt
Chapter 50 - This was a special place in Kang-woo's heart, no doubt
"Do you know, aside from Kang-woo, you're the only one who's come up to the rooftop with me?" He said, smiling at him. "I never took anyone else with me. Or rather still," he chuckled. "I didn't want to share this view with anyone else. But I'm taking you here with me, what does that mean?"
"I... I don't know." Yun-tae stuttered.
"It's Kang-woo and my special spot. We never let anyone come up with us, and we enjoy the night view together, but not for long since it's very windy, and we couldn't risk getting a cold." He chuckled.
"So, this place," Yun-tae tried to repeat. "Is a place you and Kang-woo call your special place?" He asked and Chin-hwa nodded.
Yun-tae pursed his lips. He had yet again discovered something about Chin-hwa but...
Was this why Kang-woo looked so down after Chin-hwa mentioned the rooftop? Because it was their special spot?
That was definitely it.
Surely, others came up here, but when it was just the two of them going up there, it felt so special, like it was theirs and theirs alone.
But now, Chin-hwa took Yun-tae up to that special spot; how else would Kang-woo react?
He must've been hurt by the fact.
'Oh no. I hope this doesn't make him feel like I'm stealing his friend.' Yun-tae worriedly thought. 'They are already having issues, if this adds to it, will Kang-woo start to dislike my presence?'
"On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd say you and I are as close as 6 whereas the others are at 3." Chin-hwa answered, dropping his hand on Yun-tae's shoulders. "And as for your other question," he lowered his head. "I don't think you and I are close enough for me to answer that genuinely and open up to you."
"Oh, I see." Yun-tae's hopes fell.
"But, I can tell you this." Chin-hwa smiled. "There's a hole in my heart that I don't think can be filled no matter what I do. It hurts," his eyes grew sad but then he smiled again, trying to reassure him. "...but I've learned to live with it. So, don't worry."
Yun-tae's heart suddenly thumped painfully. His heart had a hole? It hurt? Then, how could he tell him not to worry?
This hole... How did it come about? Who was it that made that hole?
He wanted to ask this but he had a feeling Chin-hwa would not answer anymore. He could only bow his head and feel sorry for him.
"Now, here's the plan." Chin-hwa spoke up. "I'm going to make up an excuse and leave you here with Kang-woo so you two can have a moment. I'll buy as much time as I can to chat with him and get to know him more while I'm not here. I know you can do it."
Yun-tae's eyebrows creased. Yes, there was that plan to get close to Kang-woo but... Was this really the time?... And was this the right place?
This was a special place in Kang-woo's heart, no doubt. So, would he feel comfortable talking to someone else in the place he had special memories with Chin-hwa?
They were just friends, no, they were best friends, so these memories must be valuable.
And now, Chin-hwa was asking him to sully those memories with his presence?
Did those memories mean nothing to him?
"Wait, Hwa, I... I don't think I can..."
Chin-hwa looked up and found Kang-woo approaching.
"Ah, there you are." Chin-Hwa said, not paying heed to Yun-tae's words. Whatever he was about to say, he didn't want to hear it.
He leaned his head closer and whispered in Yun-Tae's ear,
"There's nothing more romantic than sharing a moment in a place with a really nice view. Let's hope that you can reach his heart."
Yun-tae's eyes trembled. No, this was not what he wanted. He wanted to get together with Kang-woo; he wanted him to fall for him just as he had fallen for him at first sight, but was this the right way?
He did not want to stain Kang-woo's precious memories. He did not want to cause the rift and misunderstanding between them to grow more?
His presence in their life... Was it a help to their friendship?
He didn't know anymore and as much as he hated to admit it, his heart was not okay with this.
"Chin-hwa," he called, planning to refuse the plan, but Chin-hwa grabbed his hand and left him to the edge of the roof.
"Come, the view is more beautiful over here." He said and Yun-tae stared at him with eyes that were growing teary.
He stood at the edge, stared at the view, and his eyes grew even more teary.
"Why? Is it so beautiful that you're moved to tears?" Chin-hwa asked him and Yun-tae realized he was crying.
He looked towards Chin-hwa but looked past him at Kang-woo who, once again, had his eyes sadly fixed on Chin-hwa.
It crushed his heart even more.
He felt like the bad guy here, so how could he be happy? His heart was weak to things like this so he was moved to tears knowing he was doing something wrong.
"Let's stay for a while and sink in the beauty." Chin-hwa said, smiling brightly like everything was okay and Yun-tae stared at him.
Their friendship was suffering so how was Chin-hwa okay with this? How was he okay with not patching up their misunderstanding, and instead, he was more concerned with how to get him, his new friend, together with his long-time best friend?
He could not understand Chin-hwa.
He was smiling, but was that smile real? He didn't know anymore.
"Ah, it seems my phone is ringing." Chin-hwa said, tucking his hand in his pocket to get his phone. "You two wait here and talk, I'll go answer the call."
He glanced at Yun-tae, who had his lips pursed and then left.
Yun-tae's heartbeat thumped even more painfully. What was this? He couldn't handle it.
It was like one of those times when there was no bad intention, but the process and timing were so wrong that guilt started eating at your heart.
"Here," Kang-woo stretched his handkerchief towards Yun-tae. "Please, use this to wipe your tears."
Yun-tae stared at him. He was smiling as well. They both knew how to smile like everything was okay but how in the world were they able to pretend?

He couldn't do it.
He took the handkerchief and cleaned his eyes but more tears flowed down.
"Tell me," Kang-woo spoke up and Yun-tae sniffed, looking up at him. "Why are you 'really' crying?"
