The Villainess Redeems Herself, The Beast Husbands are in a Daily Love Battle-Chapter 59: We Have Outsiders Here
Trusting others is not as reliable as trusting him.
She took a deep breath and turned to look through the rearview mirror.
She saw Alza curled up in the corner of the back seat, his face pale as paper.
His fingers gripped the edge of the seat tightly, his lips trembling slightly, but he couldn’t utter a single word.
Selene Kane’s heart tightened, and without hesitation, she unbuckled her seatbelt, turned around, and pulled him over, holding him firmly in her embrace.
Her arms were firm and warm, her voice very soft, like coaxing a child.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here. It’s okay, don’t be scared."
Alza’s body, which had been trembling violently, slowly relaxed bit by bit in her arms.
His breathing gradually steadied, though still slightly shaky.
Caleb Shaw watched the scene quietly through the rearview mirror.
Selene Kane held Alza protectively, whispering words of calm, her expression gentle.
Sunlight streamed through the car window, casting a soft outline on her profile.
He suddenly felt a slight tightness in his chest.
The feeling was unfamiliar, even causing him to pause slightly.
He sneered inwardly.
Why would I be jealous?
Impossible.
He was never one to care about such emotions.
Besides, Selene Kane was always like that.
Soft-hearted, kind, with a habit of protecting the weak.
It was the female instinct, nothing special.
But why...
Was his gaze darkening as he watched her comforting posture in the rearview mirror?
Just then, the car’s alarm system beeped twice.\p>
Promptly, the screen lit up, indicating fast-moving vehicles closing in from the front and flanks.
Soon after, several heavy armored vehicles with military plates sped out from a distant intersection,
staking out those persistent black cars on the perimeter.
The black cars were forced to brake suddenly, leaving long black streaks on the ground.
Meanwhile, their civilian off-road vehicle accelerated, quickly widening the gap between them and their pursuers.
Selene Kane watched the black cars surrounded by military vehicles in the rearview mirror, finally releasing a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.
She leaned back against the seat, her shoulders slightly sagging.
The team behind them was clearly more professional, with tightly coordinated tactics.
Within seconds, all pursuers were pinned in place, without a chance to resist.
She still held Alza, but her gaze involuntarily turned towards the calm-looking Caleb Shaw beside her.
She stared at him for a few seconds, her brows gradually furrowing, unable to resist asking, "Why aren’t you surprised? Did you already know they were coming?"
Her voice carried a hint of probing.
If he had deliberately kept it from her, using some pretext to draw out the enemy...
She would truly turn against him.
She couldn’t allow herself to be kept in the dark.
Especially on a mission where life and death were at stake.
Caleb Shaw continued to gaze at the road ahead.
"No."
He paused, his tone still flat.
Then, his gaze slowly moved to the rearview mirror, resting on the still-cowering Little Fox in Selene Kane’s arms.
He spoke in a low voice, "Such things happen often, can’t be bothered to care."
Selene Kane tilted her head, thinking carefully about his mysterious and dangerous line of work.
Then she lightly nodded, her tone somewhat understanding.
"That’s true, you just thoroughly flattened the Insectoids, it’s only natural for the remaining forces to seek trouble with you."
She mischievously reached out a finger, pinching Alza’s soft cheek, gently rubbing with her fingertips.
"Oh my! Whose child is so amazing? Beat the Insectoids to the ground? Turns out you’re our precious one!"
"Such a clever boy, even licking your fur clean, better groomed than a little kitty, better behaved than any Ragdoll cat I’ve owned."
After saying this, she continued smiling, extending her hand to stroke Alza’s ear roots, oblivious to the way Caleb Shaw suddenly stiffened beside her.
He quickly lowered his head, coughing lightly twice, his voice somewhat dry:
"Female Master, ahead is the security checkpoint, without registered information, he might not pass."
The "he" in question was naturally Alza, still nestled in Selene Kane’s arms.
According to interstellar transport hub regulations, unregistered beast-shaped beings cannot pass public security checks.
If startled or emotionally agitated, they might uncontrollably reveal their true form.
However, as long as they remain conscious, they usually don’t lose control.
But the problem was, Alza didn’t want to change back.
Curled up in Selene Kane’s warm embrace, nuzzling the familiar scent on her clothes, he had only one thought in his mind.
Just stay here, go nowhere.
Selene is his, from beginning to end.
Nobody can take him away, let alone her.
Selene Kane, holding Alza like an unruly kitten, deftly flipped through his little pocket with one hand, pulling out an ID card to examine closely.
"Here it is. It even says ’unmarried’."
She blinked, playfully teasing him.
"Why don’t we just head to the marriage bureau right now, and change it?"
Caleb Shaw turned his head sharply upon hearing this.
His fingers unconsciously rubbed his sleeve, his voice cold.
"It’s late, Henry Sheridan just sent a message asking if we’re coming back for dinner."
He spoke calmly, but couldn’t quite conceal that intentional distance.
Selene Kane was slightly taken aback, her brows raised: "Henry Sheridan? He actually asked about dinner?"
She recalled.
This man never used to care if she had dinner, or even asked a question when she came home late.
Yet on second thought, perhaps things were different with the times being tense for everyone.
Usually, she’d grab a quick bite at home.
Or just order some takeout casually.
Henry Sheridan likely thought it was time to formally arrange something.
"I’m kind of hungry too."
She patted her stomach, glancing at Alza’s furry little head.
"Why don’t we head back early and let him have a bite too?"
Hearing this, Alza’s ears perked up instantly, his wide eyes glaring at Caleb Shaw.
But just as Caleb seemed about to turn back.
He quickly wiped away the anger, replacing it with an adorably harmless expression, snuggling into Selene Kane’s palm, emitting soft purrs.
"Oh my, so ticklish!"
Selene Kane shrank back as he snuggled, but couldn’t help laughing out loud.
"From now on, no more of this, okay? Keep it clean, alright? Fur must be smooth, no random snuggling."
As she said this, she laughed, brushing her face gently against his fluffy belly.
Soft and warm.
Who could possibly resist the power of such a fluffy little bundle?
Alza’s snow-white fur blushed faintly.
The fluffy fur that used to be pure white now seemed to have taken on a light pink hue under the sunlight.
His ears twitched slightly, and his tail reflexively curled inwards.
Oh my!
In front of others!
