The Villainess Redeems Herself, The Beast Husbands are in a Daily Love Battle-Chapter 58: Turning Danger into Safety
In that instant, her heartbeat skipped a beat.
And Caleb Shaw was not entirely unaffected.
The heart that was usually as calm as iron suddenly trembled in his chest.
He quickly suppressed the strange feeling, lowered his gaze to steady his breathing, and pretended to speak calmly, "Female Master, is there anything you need?"
Selene Kane was taken aback, rolling her eyes inwardly.
This guy really doesn’t know how to make conversation.
"Nothing, just thought you looked pretty handsome."
Caleb’s expression remained calm.
He had heard such comments many times before, it was nothing new to him.
Whether on the battlefield or in everyday life, appearance was never something he cared about.
No one on the battlefield would spare your life just because you have a handsome face; survival depends on strength, reactions, and calm judgment.
Not on a face.
"You flatter me, Female Master."
His voice was indifferent.
Neither proud nor humble, just stating a fact.
The cold response left Selene feeling uninterested.
She had complimented him offhandedly, not expecting such a lack of reaction.
She pouted, about to change the subject, but then she caught a glimpse of Alza from the corner of her eye.
He suddenly clenched his fists tightly.
His whole body shrank involuntarily, and his back slightly hunched.
It felt like a heavy stone was pressing on his heart, making it difficult for him to breathe.
Being from the Fox Clan, he was known for his handsome appearance.
Everyone in the clan, regardless of gender, was born with natural beauty.
And he was one of the best among them.
He had grown up used to being watched, praised, and having people turn their heads quietly as he passed by.
But Caleb was too eye-catching in front of him.
Not just his face, but the whole aura he exuded.
Cold, powerful, impossible to ignore.
Even their Female Master had taken the initiative to praise his looks.
And himself?
He instinctively looked down at his hands and then glanced at his reflection in the rearview mirror.
He wasn’t ugly either...
He had always thought himself to be outstanding, at the very least.
But at this moment, an all-too-familiar feeling of insecurity crept into his heart.
Would the Female Master still like him?
He didn’t dare think deeply, but couldn’t avoid the thought.
He always tried to present himself as obedient, gentle, and considerate in front of the Female Master.
But now, it seemed that male didn’t need to do anything, just by existing, he had taken the attention that should have been his.
Alza’s mood was low, enveloped in a cloud.
The atmosphere turned gloomy as well.
Even the air inside the car seemed to stagnate, the temperature inexplicably dropping.
Selene immediately sensed the anomaly.
She turned her head and saw Alza with his head down, ears drooping slightly.
His tail was listlessly curled to the side, obviously in a terrible mood.
She frowned, her heart softened, and she released her spiritual power with the intention of calming him.
Gentle and warm spiritual waves flowed slowly from her body.
But unexpectedly, as soon as the power left her body,
more than half seemed to be drawn toward Caleb, drifting away automatically. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
The spiritual power seemed to have a will of its own, penetrating Caleb’s mental barriers without hesitation.
Caleb offered no resistance, his expression remained calm.
After all, she was his Female Master.
Her spiritual power was originally free to enter his domain at will.
He had long opened everything to her.
Both body and mind, completely unguarded.
Suddenly, Caleb jerked the steering wheel sharply, moving without a hint of hesitation.
The car lost control instantly, tires screeching against the ground.
The car body was pushed sharply to the side, crashing into the barrier then bouncing off again.
Alza couldn’t grasp onto anything, slamming hard against the car door.
Already battered and bruised, his body couldn’t withstand such an impact.
The wound on his shoulder blade tore open, and blood oozed out again.
Pain surged through him, and he let out a low groan, his consciousness flickering, instinctively activating his self-preservation mechanism.
He transformed on the spot.
A silver-white fox curled up in the backseat corner, fur in disarray.
A blood stain on his right hind leg, ears pressed tightly against his head, eyes full of panic.
Selene’s seatbelt was secure, although tossed around.
She quickly recovered, stabilizing her body by grabbing the handle with one hand and the front seat with the other.
"What happened?"
Her voice slightly tense, quickly scanning the surroundings.
She sensed the coldness emanating from Caleb.
It was a cold, murderous oppressive feeling.
Her heart tightened, knowing something was wrong.
Caleb would never react so fiercely without reason.
Without saying a word, Caleb’s gaze was sharp as a knife, his right foot slamming on the accelerator.
The engine growled low, and the car shot forward like an arrow.
The tires left two black marks on the slippery road.
He then executed sharp left and right turns, following an S-shaped route.
"Bang!"
A deafening explosion rang out.
Selene was jolted back to her senses.
She turned her head and saw where they had just parked, a large crater nearly two meters in diameter had been blown open.
The concrete surface was shattered, debris scattered, flames not yet fully extinguished, black smoke billowing up.
If they had moved any slower, they would already be gone.
Her heart skipped a beat, fingertips turning slightly cold.
If not for Caleb’s quick response at that moment, they would have been engulfed in the fire.
Being with Caleb was too thrilling.
If only she had chosen someone else to escape with, the result might have been just as disastrous.
But she knew clearly,
If it was truly someone else, they might not even have heard the explosion before dying on the spot.
"They’re on us again."
Several black cars swiftly skirted around the one that had been blown to the roadside.
The cars left chaotic tracks as they sped along.
Caleb only glanced briefly at the rearview mirror.
His green eyes were as tranquil as a serene lake.
"Don’t panic, they’re just small fry."
Selene almost jumped out of the passenger seat, her voice raising several degrees.
"You call that small fry?! Look! That black car is almost tailgating us! If we’re a second slower, we’ll get hit!"
Her hands tightly gripped the seatbelt, face pale.
Turning to glare at him, her tone was full of disbelief.
"Who exactly are these people? Are they remnants of the Insectoids? Why are you always being chased? How come I never noticed you’re so hated before? We’ve barely been out of the base for two hours and we’ve already encountered two groups! Are you out to handle business or just here to refresh your enemy list?"
Caleb frowned slightly, an expression of helplessness flitting across his face.
"You’ve never been out alone with me before either."
Selene was taken aback, opening her mouth but momentarily speechless.
Thinking it over, it was true.
In the past, although she and Caleb were part of the same organization,
they were rarely given the chance to act alone due to different task assignments.
Even during joint missions, there were always others accompanying them.
Like now, with just the two of them and the ordinary Alza on a mission, it truly was a first.
She dazed for a few seconds, then slowly settled back into her seat, shoulders relaxing slightly.
At this point, the car had already climbed onto the highway.
With the enemy threatening from behind, questioning wouldn’t help.
Instead of getting flustered, it was better to choose to trust this male beside her.
She stole a glance at Caleb.
His face still showed little expression.
Yet this seemingly unreliable person had a knack for turning dangers into safety in critical moments.
