Chapter 55: She Is Waiting!

Of course, getting the woman out of the river wasn’t that difficult. If she were awake, it would have turned out to be even easier.

Ugh, who was he kidding? It was extremely hard to go against the flow of the river. He nearly hit one of the rocks, creating a scratch on his forehead, but he brought her ashore, placing her limp body on the ground.

Asher gasped for breath as he continued to sit there for a few seconds before he scrambled to Abigail.

Her eyes closed, and her breathing was a little weak. Asher’s heart thumped as he stared at her.

Nononono....

She can’t die!

As he thought, he put his hands on her chest and pushed it repeatedly, trying to get water out of her lungs. Slowly, she vomited little bits of water and coughed.

Only when Abigail opened her eyes and looked around in confusion did he relax a bit.

No, he still couldn’t relax!

He grabbed the woman’s wrist and said, "If you f*cking dare to jump again, I’ll make sure to destroy the entire Harrison family and jump after you! You hear me?!"

His blond hair fell on his forehead as droplets of water dripped from the end. He looked extremely anxious and angry simultaneously, but another hint of emotion was floating in his eyes: heartbreak.

He lowered his head, took a few deep breaths, and said, "Let’s go."

As he said, he scooped the woman up, knowing she was injured. He could feel warm blood dripping off the wound on her back.

Asher’s hands tightened around her body as a trace of blazing anger filled his eyes. It was all because of that damned husband of hers! He would make the man pay or force Nicholas to act like a husband, for God’s sake, finally!

By the time he reached the car, Abigail had already fallen unconscious. If not for Asher checking for steady breathing, he would have again become anxious. He gently placed her in the back seat and walked to the car’s front seat.

Before he could even open the door, his cell phone rang.

He pulled it out only to see his aunt’s name at the top. His eyes softened slightly as a trace of worry flashed in them.

"Aunt Rosa." Despite being angry at Nicholas, Asher had no bad blood with his aunt. He could even assume that his damned cousin hadn’t told his mom anything about the recent events.

Otherwise, knowing Rosa, she would definitely have flown to this country without delay.

As expected, the woman’s anxious voice echoed through the speaker. "Asher, where’s Abigail? My son came all alone and isn’t even answering my calls. What exactly happened? Where is she?" Rosa paused and finally revealed her deep-rooted anxiety. "I have a terrible feeling in my heart about this. Asher, something happened, didn’t it?"

"Yes." Asher looked at the backseat of his car and leaned against the door, sighing. He put his free hand in his pocket and said, "Abigail was stabbed, Nicholas wants to break the marriage, and when she woke up and realized this, she jumped off the bridge. That’s the gist of everything."

Rosa was silent momentarily as if she couldn’t believe what she just heard. Then, the sound of something falling to the ground was heard in the background.

A moment later, the woman seemed to have regained her senses and picked up the phone, saying shakily, "You... What did you just say?"

"She’s fine. I saved her." Asher frowned and said, "But her mental state doesn’t seem good..."

As he spoke, he saw Abigail had already gotten out of the car when he wasn’t looking and heading to the bridge. Asher’s eyes widened once again.

"Abigail! What are you doing?!"

"Jumping..." Abigail mumbled under her breath. She clearly wasn’t in her right mind. She looked at the flooding river beneath the bridge and felt her heart on the edge. It almost felt like it was calling out to her for some reason.

She had nothing to live for anyway. Her entire life, she yearned for her mother’s love only to receive a cold shoulder from the woman. And when she was finally adjusting to her life in the asylum, she migrated in the crazy world she created.

Every step she took screamed danger to her. She didn’t know what to do anymore. Her entire being was covered up with darkness and anxiety at all times.

The fact that she couldn’t even depend fully on her favorite character of all time, Nicholas, made her feel even more depressed. It was fine if she were in her mania period. At least she would be way too excited and optimistic about everything, so it wouldn’t really affect her.

But now...

She was in an entirely different phase, completely opposite to her mania state. Her brain couldn’t function properly on the rational side, and all she wanted was to get rid of this deep emptiness that engulfed her heart, caging her into the darkest room ever.

Yes... Death was the only way.

Abigail felt surer and surer the more she thought about it. She had to get away from this feeling. Maybe after dying, she would again appear in that asylum of hers?

Perhaps she would be surrounded by those familiar nurses and doctors who would definitely take care of her. She hadn’t been this depressed for a long time and would probably get her medicines if she transmigrated back.

Her hands tightened on the railings as she glanced at the river beneath her. The moment she was about to push herself to the other side just like before, someone grabbed her by her waist, pulling her into a firm embrace.

Abigail was stunned for a second, staring blankly at the darkened sky before her eyes. Suddenly, a sudden and brilliant flash of lightning accompanied by a deafening roar of thunder echoed throughout the place. Followed by a steady downpour that soaked them both to the bone.

She finally got to her senses as she struggled weakly, saying, "Let me go!"

"So that you can jump?" Asher was already angry, but he also felt worried for this woman at the same time. "Let’s go. Your mother-in-law is waiting for you."

"Mother-in-law?" Abigail blinked as if returning to her senses as she tilted her head sideways.

If not for the situation, Asher surely would have found this action of hers adorable.
