The Triplet Alphas' Secret Mate-Chapter 50: Triplets
Liam’s POV
Father Lennox leaned forward, his hands clasped on the desk. "Leon. Liam. Leo. Sit." He gestured to the empty chairs. But we didn’t sit; my intuition told me something was oddly wrong.
When Father realized we weren’t taking our seats, he continued. "With the ordination tomorrow, it is time we discuss the future of the Full Moon Pack. These are the daughters of Alpha Thorne from the Silver Lake Pack."
My blood ran cold. I didn’t need him to finish the sentence. I knew exactly what this was.
"They have traveled a long way," Father Levi added, his eyes scanning us for a reaction. "And since you are to be ordained as Alphas tomorrow, it is only fitting that you begin the process of selecting your own Lunas. It is time to secure our bloodline with those who are worthy of the title."
The girls looked at us with expectant eyes, but I didn’t stop myself from glaring at them.
"I refuse," Leon said, his voice ringing out through the study. It was the first time I’d heard him sound like an Alpha in weeks.
Father Levi’s eyes narrowed, his gaze sharpening into a deep frown. "Why, Leon? These women are of the highest lineage. Their father is a respected ally."
I wished I could roar the truth. I wished I could scream that I had a mate—a mate I had watched suffer while I stayed silent, a mate whom my cousin is now claiming. But the word "mate" stayed choked in my throat, a secret that felt like a death sentence.
"Because I don’t know them," I snapped, stepping forward until I was looming over the desk. "I don’t know if we’re even compatible. You expect us to lead a pack with strangers by our sides?"
"You will get to know them in marriage," Father Lennox said, his voice cold and authoritative. "Compatibility is secondary. Bloodline comes first."
"Rubbish," I spat, the word echoing off the mahogany walls. "Not happening. I don’t know about my brothers, but for me, it’s a no. I am not a puppet you can just dress up and pair off."
"No," Leo added from beside me.
"No," Leon repeated, his jaw set in a hard line.
We all looked at the girls. They looked humiliated, their sheepish smiles long gone, replaced by burning blushes and lowered heads. One of them, the blonde, bit her lip, looking like she wanted the floor to swallow her whole. I didn’t care. They weren’t her.
Father Lennox stood up, his palms slamming onto the desk. The power of his Alpha command echoed through the room, forcing our heads to bow slightly against our will.
"It is already settled," he declared, his eyes darting between the three of us with a mixture of disappointment and anger. "Tomorrow, after your ordination, we are announcing them as your fiancées. You men better start to get to know them tonight and pick your choice of which sister goes to which brother. This is for the pack, and you will obey."
He looked at the Silver Lake triplets and softened his tone only slightly. "The ladies will be staying in the East Wing. I suggest you show them around before dinner."
I didn’t wait to be dismissed. I turned on my heel and stormed out of the study, the heavy oak doors slamming shut behind me. I could hear Leon and Leo following close behind, but I didn’t stop to talk.
I reached my room, threw the door open, and started pacing like a trapped animal.
"Never," I snarled, shaking my head as the blood roared in my ears. "Never."
My father could threaten me all he wanted, but I was not marrying any of those girls. I couldn’t imagine spending my life with someone who wasn’t Scarlett. I couldn’t imagine waking up next to a stranger while my mate is with another man.
I walked over to the window and gripped the ledge. Below in the courtyard, I saw a flash of chocolate-brown hair. Scarlett. She was walking toward the servant’s quarters, probably going to pack the few belongings she had. Even from this distance, the pull of the bond was so strong it felt like a physical hook in my chest, dragging me toward her.
My wolf growled inside me, desperate for me to go to her... but I held myself back.
The thought of tomorrow’s ordination made my stomach turn. It was supposed to be the proudest day of my life—the day I officially became an Alpha of the Full Moon Pack. But now, it felt like a trap. A double-edged sword. If I accepted the title, I had to accept the fiancée. If I rejected the fiancée, I’d lose the title and any chance of ever being powerful enough to protect Scarlett.
I let out a guttural roar and punched the stone wall beside the window. The pain in my hand was nothing compared to the agony in my soul.
"I won’t do it," I whispered, my voice thick with desperation.
Suddenly, a soft knock came at my door, and for a second, I thought it was one of my brothers. But the scent that drifted under the door wasn’t Leon’s or Leo’s. It was the generic, floral perfume of one of the Silver Lake sisters.
My frown deepened as I marched to the door. I pulled the door open, expecting to see all three sisters, but I was met with just one—the one with black hair.
Our eyes met, and she smiled shyly at me.
I tried not to be completely rude, though every instinct I had was screaming at me to shut the door and lock it. "What do you want?" I asked. If she was wise enough, she could sense the irritation in my tone and leave.
She frowned slightly at the tone, her fingers nervously tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "I... I didn’t mean to intrude," she began, her voice soft and annoying to my ears. "But our father asked us to choose which of you we felt a connection with. I chose you, Liam. I thought I should come and let you know... to see what you think."
She looked up at me with hopeful eyes, searching for some sign of approval or interest. It was sickening. She was talking about a lifelong commitment like she was picking a dress for a gala.
"I don’t want to be rude to you," I said, stepping back just enough to keep the door between us like a shield. "But you’re wasting your time. I don’t care who your father told you to pick. I don’t care about this arrangement, and I definitely don’t have any ’connection’ with you."
Her face fell, a flash of hurt crossing her features, but I didn’t feel a single spark of guilt. My heart was already occupied by a girl who was currently being claimed by my cousin because I was too much of a coward to claim her.
"Is there someone else?" she asked quietly, her gaze dropping to the floor.
The question hit me like a physical blow. Someone else? There was only her. There had only ever been Scarlett.
"That’s none of your business," I snapped, my patience finally snapping. "Go back and tell your father or mine whatever you want, but don’t come back to this door. I’m not your fiancé, and I’m never going to be."
Her lips parted like she wanted to say something, but I didn’t wait.
I slammed the door in her face.
