The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 86: Ch : Pay A Visit- Part 4
"Madam Rose, what do you have to say for yourself? People are demanding we send out Ace to deal with the dungeon as soon as possible, and it’s all because of your lie."
Rose controlled her emotions as she looked at the rest of the executives sitting around her.
She gritted her teeth as she took in the smug faces of the alphas and omegas around her. As a beta, she knew she was at a disadvantage, but now her situation was especially bad.
"Sir, with due respect, everyone here agreed with my plan to replace Ace with a fake. And as for the current dungeon, it is unfair for you to pin the blame on me. The dungeon is dangerous enough for even the Luminous Guild to step back."
Rose reasoned as she looked around. But most people seemed to not be interested in hearing her out.
All they wanted was someone to blame, and she was the perfect scapegoat at the moment.
"Anyway, our first focus should be on the people and to calm them down. We need to empty out the area and propose a new formation of an elite team to take out this dungeon before it could spread its influence."
Rose quickly changed the topic to the current situation at hand.
Not that she was interested in the welfare of people. But if it got the topic off her, then she was willing to take the chance and change it.
"Tsk, she’s changing the subject."
Someone commented, but Rose held firm.
"Hmm, you are right. The issue with you can be dealt with later. For now, we have to combat this dungeon. Have you gotten a response from the top hunters?"
The chairman asked, and someone cleared their throat before speaking.
"About that, Lynn has already agreed to our request, as has Rhiner and Lee Minho. Jun has agreed on the account that Lynn is going. We had no contact from Ace. Oh, and we also got a message from Edward. He’s coming as well. This team should be enough."
The secretary spoke with confidence, and people suddenly sounded excited.
Edward was the ranked #3 hunter and an S-class one at that. With two confirmed S-class on the team, it should be easy to deal with the dungeon... or so everyone hoped.
But the chairman frowned as soon as he heard those words.
"Only 3 out of the top 10 replied? What about the rest? Don’t they have a responsibility as well?"
He asked, and the secretary quickly looked at her notes.
"A-About that... the rest of the people in the top ten are still in their respective dungeons or are M.I.A. at the moment. We have no way to get to them. Their guilds have assured us that they would respond to us as soon as they are able to."
The secretary spoke, and now everyone felt tense. The timing of these people going missing felt far too suspicious.
"It’s either one of the biggest trolls in human history, or something is going on. Whatever it is, we need to take care of this dungeon first and foremost. Try contacting Ace as much as you can for now and get everyone else into the meeting room."
The chairman ordered, and everyone jumped into action.
Rose sighed in relief as her issue went under the radar.
She was well aware that her enemies were still waiting for a chance to pull her down, but now she had some breathing room.
’I need to find Ace before anyone else does and form a contract with him. That way, I would be able to protect my own position in this place.’
She bowed. She was willing to stoop as low as needed for her purpose, and she was not going to stop.
________
"Kuro, what do you know about this new dungeon?"
I asked the cat-shaped demon once I caught him and brought him to my room. I had a suspicion that the new dungeon was not a natural one.
The demon in my grip struggled to get out of it, and all his shifting around told me that I was right.
"Huh-! What are you talking about? It’s a natural dungeon that opened because it was its time. It’s not like our lord suddenly decided that he needed to open a dungeon out of nowhere and leave us underprepared as well."
Kuro sounded... almost bitter when he spoke, and now I was sure that he knew more than he let on.
"So, why did your lord decide to suddenly open this dungeon?"
I asked, and Kuro gave up trying to hold back.
"How would I know what goes on in our great lord’s mind? I could try to understand if I go into the dungeon to investigate a little bit. But as you can see, I am stuck here with you."
Kuro told me in a calm voice. He flicked his tail like a cat before he stretched and got comfortable.
"If you manage to get into the dungeon, can you find out why it opened?"
I asked Kuro, and he shrugged.
"Maybe... possibly? I cannot say because each dungeon is different, and even though we all serve the same lord, not all monsters get along well. Some are... just too much in their devolution."
The demon told me, and I felt like I somewhat understood what Kuro wanted to tell me.
I took a deep breath to calm myself down and then planned on what to do next.
First, I needed to find a way to get away from Emma and Ben so that they don’t worry about me. But I truly did not want to leave them or lie to them any longer.
’Should I tell them the truth? Would those two accept me if I tell them I am Ace?’
Somehow, I had a feeling that Emma and Ben would accept me no matter what I told them about myself.
However, I was more worried about Theo. I did not want to leave him all alone.
"Human, I don’t know what you are worried about, but it is your decision in the end. If you want to know the truth, then sitting here won’t help you out."
Kuro told me, and I decided to gather the courage and head out to tell the people I cared about the truth.
Or... that was what I planned to do before I headed down to meet them all, only to see a familiar face sitting in the guest room.
"Oh-! You are here, Kyle. Someone has come here to meet you. I don’t know what Hunter Lynn wants from you, but you should join us for sure."
Emma told me, and I walked toward the guest room with a stiff expression on my face. I forced the door open, only to see Lynn’s smiling face.
"Ah, you are finally here, Kyle. Come and sit with me. I have a lot I want to talk to you about... and also ask for help."
Lynn told me as he patted the seat beside him. But I ignored him and decided to sit beside a stiff Theo.
The alpha relaxed as soon as I did that and wrapped his arms around me. I finally felt settled down a little bit.
