Chapter 181: The Crimson Night [9]
Cassian and Fredrinn moved at the exact same moment without exchanging a single word.
Two dark silhouettes shot toward the Primordial Angel from different angles at lethal speed.
The Primordial Angel spun the holy swords in its eight arms with flawless coordination, like a deadly wheel of death.
It not only parried every heavy strike from the two with millimetric precision, but also launched counterattacks at an incomprehensible speed.
One of its arms shot into the darkness and grabbed Fredrinn by the head, slamming him into the black ground with tremendous force.
But as the Primordial Angel expected to hear the cracking of bones or feel flesh crushed beneath its grip, the resistance in its hand suddenly vanished.
Fredrinn’s body had merged with the dark ground itself, dissolving like a shadow and disappearing.
Seconds later, Fredrinn emerged again from a completely different blind angle and swung his sword.
Just as the Primordial Angel turned with superhuman reflexes to block the attack, its limbs were suddenly covered in a freezing layer of ice.
Cassian had seized the tiny opening and activated his ice magic to slow the angel down.
But the Primordial Angel violently flapped its massive wings.
A wave of concentrated holy mana exploded from the wings, shattering Cassian’s ice and forcing both partners to stagger backward.
"Quite an annoying opponent, isn’t it?"
Fredrinn adjusted his sword without taking his eyes off the Primordial Angel and answered coldly,
"Not as annoying as you."
Before the dust from the mana wave even settled, the two attacked again.
This time Cassian moved beyond darkness and ice.
Pure blue lightning crackled violently around him, filling the air with the sharp scent of ozone.
Lightning flashed within his pupils as his body transformed into a living bolt of electricity.
He zigzagged around the Primordial Angel at a speed impossible to follow with the naked eye, delivering a barrage of electrified slashes.
While Fredrinn kept the Primordial Angel busy with heavy and destructive blows, Cassian called lightning down from the sky and lashed the angel with electric whips bursting from his sword, eroding its holy defenses.
As the rhythm of the battle accelerated, Cassian condensed a massive Lightning Spear in his hand and mercilessly drove it into the Primordial Angel’s kneecap.
Pure electricity surged into the angel’s divine veins.
The massive creature’s body convulsed uncontrollably.
Fredrinn had been waiting for that moment of paralysis.
With all his strength, he drove his enormous sword straight into the Primordial Angel’s chest.
But the Primordial Angel did not surrender.
Even while its body spasmed, its remaining arms swung all eight holy swords simultaneously, crashing them mercilessly onto Fredrinn’s black armor.
The legendary armor—nearly impossible to break—crackled and shattered amid a storm of sparks.
The holy blades pierced Fredrinn’s flesh.
The wounds were not deep, but they were enough to halt the dark knight’s advance.
At that exact moment Cassian reappeared.
Swinging his blade in a horizontal arc, he severed the Primordial Angel’s limbs from its body in a single motion.
With its arms torn away, the Primordial Angel attempted to leap backward.
But Chaos Chains burst from beneath the ground, twisting like serpents and wrapping tightly around its legs and neck.
Sensing it had been cornered, the Primordial Angel released a massive surge of holy mana that shattered the chains into pieces.
"Absolute Severance!"
The Primordial Angel’s eyes widened as it sensed the incoming attack.
Before its body could recover from the shock of the broken chains, it suddenly clutched its abdomen in pain.
Its upper body slid cleanly from its lower half and fell to the ground.
It had been split in two.
In response, a second and far more destructive explosion of holy mana erupted from its body.
The light was blinding.
Cassian instantly formed a massive shield of chaos in front of them, blocking the deadly pressure.
He glanced at Fredrinn from the corner of his eye.
His armor was shattered, blood leaking from the wounds beneath it.
Cassian could not heal him with holy mana now.
To do that, Fredrinn would have to completely cancel his dark power—and doing that in the middle of this battle would be suicide.
Fredrinn let out a strained chuckle beneath the broken armor.
"Don’t worry about me. Just a scratch. It’ll take a lot more than that to bring me down."
Cassian turned his head forward again.
He clenched his fists so tightly that his own bloodied claws pierced through his palms.
Fredrinn raised his sword again and pointed it toward the Primordial Angel, which had already returned to perfect form within seconds.
At the same time Cassian formed a massive Sphere of Chaos and hurled it directly at the angel.
The chaos explosion collided with the Primordial Angel’s holy mana and vanished midair.
Fredrinn lunged forward.
But the Primordial Angel was ready this time.
Two arms blocked Fredrinn’s blade while the others moved to impale him.
That was until two Chaos Spheres suddenly appeared in the air, corroding the holy blades and erasing the attacks.
Amid the chaos, Cassian leapt directly above the Primordial Angel.
A newly formed Lightning Spear descended toward the angel’s head. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
But the angel suddenly vanished.
Before Cassian could understand what happened, the Primordial Angel reappeared directly in front of him.
Eight holy swords pierced Cassian’s body simultaneously, literally tearing him apart.
Cassian coughed up a mouthful of blood in agony.
He dismissed his sword.
Pushing the limits of his monstrous regeneration, he barely kept his shattered body from falling apart.
And in the middle of that pain, his savage nature took over.
He wrapped his arms tightly around the Primordial Angel’s neck.
Bringing his face close to the angel’s flawless divine visage, he bit down on its neck like a wild beast.
His teeth sank deeply into the angel’s flesh as he released the dense chaos gathered in his mouth directly into its veins.
The Primordial Angel struggled in horror, trying to push him away.
But Cassian had already bound his own body to the angel with chaos chains.
His claws dug into the angel’s flesh.
Pure chaos poured from his palms, melting the Primordial Angel’s divine skin like acid.
The angel desperately tried to regenerate itself with holy mana, while Cassian stubbornly continued rotting the body he clung to like a parasite.
At that moment, dark shapeless hands extended from Cassian’s back.
They reached directly toward the Primordial Angel’s face.
When the angel’s eyes widened in panic, it was already too late.
The dark fingers brutally pierced into the angel’s eyes and burrowed deep into its skull.
When the third and most violent holy mana explosion erupted, Cassian was blasted backward as the chains snapped.
Yet even while flying through the air, the wave of chaos pouring from his body surged forward once again to devour the Primordial Angel.
Blinded and with its flesh melting away, the Primordial Angel formed a massive holy barrier in front of itself to block the chaos.
At that exact moment Fredrinn appeared from the darkness again, swinging his sword down to split the angel from behind.
Forced to divide its attention, the Primordial Angel desperately tried to stop the chaos while fending off Fredrinn.
"Absolute Severance!"
When Cassian’s sword split the Primordial Angel horizontally once again, the angel unleashed another massive wave of holy mana.
But Cassian transformed into lightning and shot forward at the speed of light, throwing his body directly into the center of the holy energy—into the angel’s arms.
The instant the Primordial Angel’s swords reflexively impaled Cassian’s body again and again, Fredrinn’s massive blade pierced through the angel’s back from behind.
As the Primordial Angel staggered in pain and lost its balance, Cassian’s blood-soaked claw—covered in pure chaos—tore through the angel’s ribcage like paper.
His hand plunged inside and grasped the beating divine heart.
The Primordial Angel’s eyes widened in ultimate terror.
The last thing it saw was the wave of absolute chaos surrounding it...
and the heart in its chest that no longer beat—because it no longer existed.
