Chapter 74: Ch 74: End of the Championship- Part 2

I was in no hurry to head to the final ground. But everyone around me seemed to be rushing.

"We have no time to be dallying around like this, Manet. Hurry up and follow us."

Sam told me as soon as he noticed that I had no intention of hurrying up to get to the final ceremony ground. He dragged me behind him in an agitated manner.

We were one of the first teams to reach the ceremonial ground but there was no audience member in attendance.

This ceremony was clearly just for people who participated in the championship. And slowly, other teams were starting to filter into the stadium.

My eyes met Lynn’s across the arena as he entered and I immediately looked around and pretended I did not see him.

But just because I did not acknowledge him, did not mean he had a desire to play along with me. Instead of looking away and doing what he needed to, the alpha turned toward me and came toward me.

I tensed once Lynn was too close and I could tell that everyone was paying attention to us now.

"Hey, do you think I can take you out to dinner? I wanted to ask you out for a while and-"

"No."

My answer was firm and everyone gasped out loud as they heard me reject the potential ’no.1 Alpha’ in the world.

’Tsk, all these people likely think that I must have gone mad or something. But if they like Lynn so much, they should ask him out instead.’

This was what I wanted to tell everyone who was staring at me currently.

But I did not do that and pretended I no longer saw Lynn. But he was a bastard and instead of taking rejection well, he decided he wanted to keep teasing me about it.

"Ohhh, how cold-hearted of you to say this to me-! You wound me, Manet. If dating is out of the question, then can you spare me some of your time at least for one date? I promise to make it worth your while. How about a dungeon run in the Crevices dungeon? Are you interested now?"

The alpha asked me and I felt everyone around me go quiet. They all seemed to know what Crevices dungeon was.

I quickly decided to look it up, only to see that it was an A-class privately owned dungeon and was known as a treasure-trove by the people.

Even I felt a little tempted before I recalled what was attached to this agreement.

’Tsk bastard-! He sure knows how to entice me. Should I...go along with him?’

As soon as that thought came to my mind, Theo’s image flashed in my mind. I could see his eyes begging at me to come back and his lips quavering.

Despite Theo being a giant alpha, all I could see was a puppy waiting for me to return. And that snapped me out of my daze.

"Hmm, I don’t think it would be possible. My puppy really won’t like it and I also want to spend some time with him once it’s all over."

I told Lynn and it was a rejection in every way possible.

Once again, people gasped as they saw my audacity and I even noticed Lee Minho suppressing a laugh as he watched Lynn get rejected.

Lynn, on the other hand, seemed to not even realize he had been rejected as he kept smiling.

"I see. In that case, I have no choice but to back out right now and rethink my approach toward making you like me more."

There were audible gasps from all around us as Lynn declared this.

I could not tell whether he was joking or serious but everyone else around us seemed to be too involved in this drama to pay attention to anything else.

Before I could answer, I felt another presence behind my back. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Lynn, you should know your limits and not tease others. Can’t you tell you are making this poor omega uncomfortable? Sir, I apologize on my superior’s behalf."

Rhiner told me and I almost cursed when I saw him.

’Oh wow-! Hasn’t this happened before? Rhiner seems to have a bad habit of apologizing in Lynn’s stead.’

I looked at Rhiner and Lynn spoke in slight irritation for the first time.

"Rhiner, this is none of your business. And I am serious about Manet, so you don’t need to worry about anything."

Lynn told the other alpha but Rhiner looked uncomfortable.

I had no idea what he was thinking about, nor did I want to know. I slipped from between them and quickly went back to my team’s side. For now, I had no intention of getting close to any of these people.

Thankfully, the association chose the perfect time to intervene and cut off the conversation before things could get ugly.

[Good Morning everyone. As you can see, we cannot hold the last part of the championship due to a sudden problem. As a result, there would be no winner this year. But we would like to reward the team that showed the most promise – team #342]

There was a sudden silence all around as Klein’s team was declared the unofficial winner. The team in question looked far beyond happy (except Klein who looked uncomfortable) and they quickly made their way to the top.

"Hey-! What the hell? This is not fair. What made you decide this?"

Someone questioned and as if a dam had opened, everyone decided to start questioning the association representative.

"Their team neither has the top score, nor the lowest grade of hunters."

"What was the criteria for choosing? Or, did you plan to do this since the start?"

"Maybe this whole thing was a ruse to crown their people as champions in disguise. I heard that one of those hunters is related to the association’s chairman..."

And just like that, whatever reputation the association had managed to salvage came crashing down.

The association decided it could not allow that and decided to bring in their biggest weapon.

[Everyone, please calm down. Let’s settle this civilly. If not, then I will be forced to interfere-]

"Sure, come down here. I am interested to see what Ace can do as well. In fact, I am itching to have a fight with you, Ace. Don’t you dare disappoint me."

Lynn spoke up and everyone gasped in stunned silence as the former no.1 hunter called out to the current no.1 hunter...or that was what everyone thought.

But I knew the truth.

Lynn was someone who already knew that the Ace the association was using was a fake one. And even if he was not...Lynn was not someone who backed out.

The fact that he had asked me out so many times despite knowing my true identity and getting rejected spoke of his determination.

[Are you...challenging me, hunter Lynn? Do you not realize what would happen if you do that? You are no longer the number.1 hunter. Do you want to get crushed that badly?]

The association’s Ace asked and I flinched. To think the association allowed such words to be said...they must be desperate to hide that their Ace was fake.
