Chapter 75: Ch 75: End of the Championship- Part 3

The announcement felt heavy in the air as people looked at Lynn to see his next reaction. They were excited to see whether he would fold in front of Ace or not.

But Lynn did not even seem to look worried. He yawned as he stepped forward.

"You can take my words as a challenge. Now, why don’t you come down and face me head on? I am sure you have not lost your touch. After all, I met you recently and you seemed to be doing just fine."

Lynn was rage-baiting the association and warning them at the same time.

Those who heard his words likely thought that he was trying to get his point across. But I knew that Lynn was not that nice of a person.

As expected, there was silence for a few seconds. The association must be panicking about what to do.

Finally, ’Ace’ spoke up.

[In that case, I would invite you later for a sparring session. For now, we should not cause more trouble than it is worth-]

"Tsk, there is no need for that. I don’t like to engage with puppets. Besides, I have other engagements to get to...someone who is not a puppet like you but the real deal."

Lynn did not come out and say it, but his words made it more than clear what he was saying - he was telling the hunters present that the Ace the association presented them with was a fake and the real one was still out there.

[Hunter Lynn, you need to stop-]

The voice on the speaker changed from Ace’s to a female one and I recognized her as Rose.

Lynn only scoffed at her, not paying attention to her threat at all.

"I don’t know what the association is playing at, but now I am sure that Hunter Ace is not with you. Instead of wasting time and money to line your own pockets, he is still trying to protect us. I don’t want to see you smearing his name with your lies."

Lynn’s eyes briefly looked over to me when he spoke and I had no idea what he wanted to see when he did that.

I pretended I did not notice but that seemed to not deter Lynn in the slightest. If anything, he looked even more determined to do...something.

[This ceremony is over. Hunter Lynn, please make your way to my office. We have a lot we need to discuss.]

"Hmm, I don’t think I will. I do not like the taste of tea you all brew. Maybe you should be the one to visit me instead."

Lynn told them and just like that, the ceremony was over.

I decided to make a run for it before anyone else (mainly Lynn) could come over to me and cause trouble for me.

"Let’s get out of here. Joshua is waiting for us."

I told my team and they looked startled by what just happened.

"Huh-! What-! Manet, wait a second-!"

I gave them no time to think about what was happening before I dragged them away.

I was aware of Lynn’s eyes looking at me, but when I turned around, I met another pair of eyes looking at me from not too far away.

’Fuck-! Why is Lee Minho looking at me so intensely? Does he know...something...? No, I don’t have time to think about all this...’

Despite others showing too much interest in me, I had no interest in them. And I managed to successfully drag my team back to their rooms.

______

"Ah, did all that really happen? I don’t recall much of it. I just know that I was hurt..."

Joshua had woken up by the time we came back and due to being an A-class hunter along with healing potions, he seemed to be doing well.

One more day and he would be able to leave his bed as well.

"Manet, what are you going to do now? All of us will return to head into the dungeons as a party. Even Sam will join us. What about you? Want to become a permanent part of our team? You are still not up to my beauty standard, but I can work on that."

Even now, Joshua was still talking about his beauty standards and Sam just shook his head.

The mere fact that Joshua was joking around like this assured me that he would be just fine in the future. I did not need to worry about him at this point.

As for his offer? Well, that was a different matter.

"I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can take that offer. I have my own reasons, but I do need to head back soon."

I told the pair and they looked unhappy but understanding.

"I see. The girls would not be happy with this news. But if this is what you want, we cannot stop you either. Just make sure you keep in touch with us."

Joshua told me with a pout. He was finally coming around and opening up to me.

I had a sudden feeling that this was what being friends was all about...not that I did not have friends.

But having friends in peaceful times was truly different compared to a stressed time. Back then, I had no time to get attached to others.

’Not that it stopped you. Don’t the deaths from the past still haunt you-’

The treacherous part of my brain reminded me and I snuffed its voice out from my head. Now was not the time to be focusing on useless stuff like that.

"Sorry, but I cannot stay for long. I will take my leave now. Keep me posted on your recovery."

I told the team before I hurried back home.

I had already messaged Emma and Ben that I was heading back home, so I needed to make it back home.

’Finally, I will be able to go back home...never thought I would say these words. I wonder if Theo is back or not. Is his rut over?’

I had decided against calling Theo as to not make his rut worse or be taken as being interested in him.

Regarding Theo... I was still not sure what I thought of him, but I was becoming increasingly aware of him. And from what I had sensed, he seemed to like me as well.

’But still...he has no memory. I should not take advantage of him. I need to keep some distance from him when I head back.’

I made up my mind and headed out. Kuro had also fallen silent and mostly slept ever since we came out of the dungeon.

As I headed back, I saw someone waiting for me not too far away.

I tried to go around Lynn, but he grabbed my hand before I could make it.

"Won’t you give me some of your time? In return, I will drop you off at the Cafe. We are both heading the same way anyway."

I wanted to say no, but my instincts told me that the alpha won’t take no for an answer this time. So I decided to follow along for now and nodded.

"Fine-! But you are paying for the food."
