Chapter 73: Ch 73: End of the Championship- Part 1

The early hours of the morning made everything turn a lovely shade of red. The morning sun was just rising in the sky and the world was quiet and serene-

"Oh god-! The dungeon collapsed."

"What do you think it means? What is the association going to do about the finals now?"

"I think they have bigger things to worry about. Didn’t Ace just announce that there is no danger in the dungeon?"

Loud voices passed me as they discussed the dungeon collapse that I had just caused.

I was not surprised to hear that the association had tried to bury any evidence of this happening.

The association were shady bastards that just did stuff because they wanted to, regardless of what was good for the others. The only one they wanted to benefit was themselves.

’I managed to get out of trouble in time. I am sure the dungeon entrance is surrounded by the association’s goons by now.’

Not that they would be able to find anything of use there. I had made sure to discreetly use my ability to erase any marks and presence that was left behind.

It was comically easy for me to slip back in my hotel room. Sam was still too busy and both Sasha and Amy were still sleeping. I pretended to be in my bed as well when someone knocked on my door.

"Manet, are you in there? Can you please come to the door. Someone is here to interrogate us about something. Don’t be alarmed and allow me to take lead."

Sam told me and he looked determined to protect me since Joshua was not there to do so.

However, I doubted a beta and a non-hunter would be treated well. Humans were...just not that understanding of a species.

An officer from the association was sitting in the living room along with a hunter dressed in a mask and black attire. The attire was almost identical to the one I used to wear when I acted as Ace.

And I instantly knew who these people were.

’So this is the boy the association chose to act as Ace? What a pathetic excuse of a person.’

I was not a judgmental person, but even I could feel annoyed when the association was mocking me as such.

"Are all of you here? I don’t see the last person."

The officer asked as I took my seat beside Sam.

"Our leader is injured in the other room. You already saw him. This is everyone else on our team. As you can see, we are all here and had been here since last night."

Sam sounded confident, but that was only because he had no idea what I had been doing without telling him.

The officer did not look happy to hear what Sam had to say and he coughed in his fist to hide his annoyed expression.

"I see. In that case, would you mind if I use my ability to confirm whether you are telling the truth or not? It won’t hurt for a single bit."

The officer asked and everyone tensed.

It was too much of a risk to allow someone else to use their ability on you. It was a sign of trust, and right now, there was no trust between us and the officer.

"I apologize, officer. But I would have to refuse. Now, please leave our hotel room."

Sam firmly stated as he stood up.

He was a tall and intimidating person and his presence caused the officer to flinch. But the officer was a proud beta and also a hunter. He decided he was not going to take his pride being hurt like that.

"Tsk, you have no ground to refuse. You have neither the power nor the authority to say what you want. If you don’t comply with me, I would be forced to write you up. And don’t try anything funny, miss, or I would have to ask Ace to take action against you."

The officer noticed Amy charging her powers and warned her.

Ace was a threat that no hunter wanted to take on. Even though Amy was strong, she was no match for Ace. That was why she decided to calm down.

I secretly took a look at ’Ace’ and noticed that he looked nervous. He clearly did not want to be here.

’Then, should I give him a scare? I can tell that this child is not too powerful.’

The reason I called the imposter a child despite likely being older than me was because he seemed like someone who could not do anything himself.

Even the way he held himself was awkward and looked almost like a child.

"Oh! You want to pick a fight? I would welcome you. Come, why don’t you show me what you got, Ace?"

It was foolish of me to entice the association like that, but even my patience had a limit.

I watched as ’Ace’ flinched and pulled back. The officer looked startled as well and his face flushed.

"Tsk, you truly have a death wish. Sir Ace, you should use your powers freely. I am sure the association would understand if you teach a rude person a lesson."

The officer told ’Ace’ and I noticed the use of power.

[Warning: external power detected.]

[Conclusion: power was neutralized]

The power ’Ace’ had used was decent in strength, but it did not even faze me. My eyes remained clear and that caused ’Ace’ to realize that I was not an opponent he could overpower.

I could read questions in his eyes. Especially regarding my level and how I was able to repel his powers.

"Ace, are you alright? You should show these people your awesome power and-"

"We are heading back now. These people are not the culprits of the accident yesterday. Let’s go to the other teams."

For the first time, Ace spoke up and he stood. The officer looked shocked at what just happened.

"Sir Ace...what? Hey, wait for me."

The officer rushed to catch up with Ace, but Ace was too fast and managed to run away.

I watched it all happen and almost shook my head at how far the association had fallen.

’Did losing most of their top-ranked hunters 10 years ago really make them such a pathetic organization? They even have to borrow my name to keep some dignity.’

Not that it was any of my business anymore. I had left that life behind and as soon as I was done investigating this mess, I would live a normal life as well.

Sigh

"Phew, we made it. For a second, I was sure they were going to ask us to wake up Joshua as well to interrogate him."

Sam let out a relieved sigh as he spoke and his body melted into the sofa. Sasha and Amy looked relieved as well, not getting up from their seat.

I felt...a little satisfied to see that nothing had happened.

[Ding! All participants who are able to make it to the ceremony, please proceed to the final grounds. The hunter’s ceremony’s ending event will be held soon.]

The announcement came out of nowhere, and it signaled that the championship was finally over.
